a big annoying problem
Deb and the girls
I have a laptop with windows 7, jaws 2021, and have downloaded google chrome and Microsoft edge. I selected chrome as my browser because I can’t seem to get edge to work just right for some reason. Recently, since installing jaws 20221 and deleting jaws 18 19 and 20, I have been having difficulties. Chrome seems to work sluggishly, not at all, or oddly. Even when I have good internet connection, sometimes when I select chrome it will not populate. I have to go back and select it 3 or four times before it finally takes off. Then, at times, I will be on a web page or in a program doing something important like buying something, and it throws me out for no reason.
At other times, it says it can not find a page that I know is there and goes into this thing about secure and unsecure sites. These have been secure well-known sites like amazon so why does it do that? Finally, I have chrome save some of my passwords. Anyway, while I am trying to read an article or pay a bill or something, or write a birthday wish on facebook, parts of words from sites I have visited appear over and over. I have to press escape escape to get rid of them sometimes several times. I see the words change password appear in the middle of an article about health. It is just weird, all this stuff which I have not saved bleeding into completely unrelated tasks and places. So, is it jaws or chrome or google or windows seven or what? Why would installing jaws 2021 suddenly make these problems worse? I would just like some understandable answers. Whenever you try to talk to freedom scientific, they act like they do not know what you are talking about or that they don’t handle those kinds of questions, etc. So give me some opinions please! Should I ditch chrome? What would you advise? ;

Strange Zoom Volume Issue
Tom Behler
Hello, everyone.
Recently, I have been doing some online teaching via Zoom, and have noticed a very strange issue with my microphone volume.
For these meetings, I use a headset with an attached microphone. I have experienced this issue with two different headsets. Both headsets are connected via a USB port.
My issue is that when I’m teaching, my microphone suddenly looses volume for no apparent reason.
I can’t identify a consistent pattern to these failures, but I’m told my volume suddenly disappears to the point that my audio is unintelligible.
Has anyone else had this issue in Zoom meetings, and if so, how did you solve it?
Is there something I can do to keep my volume levels more stable?
I’m using Jaws 2021 here on a Windows 10 PC. I also put Jaws in Speech On Demand mode as I’m conducting my classes, because they involve screen sharing, and I want to minimize Jaws speech when I’m navigating the screen. Fortunately, I have a HIMS Polaris Notetaker that I can use as a Braille display.
Thanks for any help!

Jaws & Excel column navigational key stroke problem
Shan Noyes
Hi all!
I’ve got a column of numbers in excel I’ve sorted them and some of the numbers appear in numerous rows. What I want to do is have the focus jump down to the next different number in the column.
I asked this question in September and got an answer. But my notes are messed up,
So reaching out again for help.
The instruction I have are: Ok, hold down the control and shift. Do not let go of theese 2 keys. Now while holding down these keys, hit down arrow, do not hold down the down arrow, just press it. wait a second, then hit the backspace key. The backspace key is normally above the enter key.
The person who had the answer was a Chris Block
So it would be greatly appreciated if you could write me directly because maybe it’s a timing issue.

Hi Don,
My best guess is that somehow the Classic
scheme has been modified to play a sound instead of
speak. If it had been modified it would read as Classic modified
unless something weird happened and we all know nothing weird ever happens with
computers don't we! LOL
Because the sound won't play when running with
the default settings is further proof that it's a setting that has been changed
and the first place I would look is in the settings of the scheme you're
running.

The first time you use Research It with Insert+spacebar then r, it will say that a feature needs to be installed. Hit yes to install.

Once tha tis done, when you press Insert+spacebar, then r, you will be in an edit field. If you tab once, you will be in the list of sources available. Arrow down to the one you want, and then shift+tab back and type your search term, or of course, type your search term, then tab into the list and pick the one you want. Apparently, in the settings, you can set one of them as the primary, but I have not explored that. Richard "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say on the subject of flying. A further note on how this happens; if you press control+o to open a document and shift+tab to get to your files, the first button you land on is Name…. If you accidentally press space or enter on that button, you will reverse the order of the files.

An easy way is when you are in the list of documents, tab once. It will say 'name, split button'. Press enter and the docs will turn themselves right-side-up again. Do it a second time and the list will flip over the other way. At 09:16 AM 11/23/2020, you wrote:

Don,
Try running Jaws with the default settings and see if the
links still play sounds on each link. Steps below. Also chec which
scheme that's running with each browser. To check what sound scheme is
running press, Insert, Alt + S, to open the schemes list.
This will help with narrowing down where the
problem might be.
Hold down the, Insert key, then press the,
spacebar, to activate the layered keystroke feature then press the letter,
Z. This will temporarily bypass
your settings and put Jaws into it's factory default settings mode. This keystroke is a toggle so, press the key combination sequence again to go back to your personal settings. Temporary bypass using current User Settings and use JAWS factory default = Z. Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Don,
What browser are you running? I think I
have an idea of what's happening but, I want to make sure we're on the same
page. Also, what's the website?
Stay safe and take care. Mike.

Well, that is strange.

Have you talked with Freedom Scientific about this? I find nothing in the settings that would account for this behavior. Best of luck, Richard "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say on the subject of flying. There is an art, it says, or rather, a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss." --Douglas Adams, from Life, The Universe and Everything, p.59 Check out my web site at: www.turner42.com *I’m not the card shark
