Much appreciated.  I would love to have one more email client that I can recommend that has been determined to be accessible.  And those who use a screen reader as their primary access method are far more likely to hit glitches that I might not when I do cursory accessibility testing.

It's easy to determine when something is truly inaccessible in no time.  But it's a lot more difficult to determine just precisely how accessible something is using any "quick and dirty" testing techniques.

So, based on this, am I safe in assuming that Opera is accessible these days?  It used to be one that I recommended, but at one point (and I can't remember when, it's a while back), it became more than a bit of a mess in terms of accessibility.  It would be great if it's one I can recommend to blind users again, as they had a great browser.

This also makes me wonder if Opera Mail may have become accessible?  They had a great email client that, the last time I tested it with a screen reader, was an accessibility nightmare.  If that's changed, it would be great, too, as it was a good client but inaccessible.

It very definitely is accessible.  It's main weakness though is that it doesn't deal well with JavaScript coded menus, but I can live with that for now, as i also have chrome to fall back on.  But I will be joining the Opera development team next year to help deal with this particular issue.  In my personal opinion, the Opera browser is not getting the attention it truly deserves.  Cheers!

If CONTROL plus W doesn't close out the browser, it means that the browser has locked up, and as you said, your only option is to close out all tasks under Google Chrome.

Hi, Addison. Yes, it is supposed to say closed. To open the category in Task Manager, press the Right Arrow, and you may find several tasks under this one category. It says "Closed" in the same manner as when you are exploring the Files and Folders tree under Windows Explorer. It is not saying that the program is closed, it is saying that the entry for that item is closed and must be expanded with the Right Arrow.

Oh, that certainly did exist and still exists.  But nothing I've said should be interpreted to apply to instances where use of a given piece of software, whatever it may be, is forced by circumstances beyond a given individual's control.

They're about what you have the ability to choose to do, or not do.  Lots of us get stuck with what anyone would characterize as a suboptimal situation because we don't have any choice.

Your observation about the insanity of ignoring the warnings from Microsoft as an entity and security experts is correct.  Ignoring can be very accurately characterized as crazy.  But, again, if you've got no choice in your workplace or other setting you deal with what you're forced to deal with.  When that's not the case, follow the subject matter experts' recommendations.

You can go to task manager, hit g key until it says “google chrome”, then just hit the delete key to end the task. If chrome is already in a non-responsive state (which it sounds like has happened) you will not even get a prompt, hitting delete will just do the trick. Then, check to make sure all instances of google chrome are closed (hit the g key again).

A lot of large corporations use IE and DOS based programs bedcuase it is just too expensive to change them. You see so many blind people using IE because like mentioned they find it is the only option at times and calling that BS and putting it on us to force change is not helpful. Granted it is less frequent now but there is still a need for it at times. Condescension is not helpful either.

Again, learn to read.  Randy, your personal animus toward me colors absolutely every word I say, and adds things simply never said.

I quote: Anyone with 2 firing neurons discourages the use of IE unless you absolutely, positively cannot use another option, and never where security is a concern.

You see that phrase, "discourages the use of IE," it actually can't be ignored, nor does it mean "anyone using IE," or even imply it.

And your whine about having no other options is, pure and simple, BS in virtually all cases.  And where you can only use IE, you, any you, should be raising a huge stink with the site that's requiring it.

Sounds to me like that wouldn’t work in this case and Chrome has just stopped working. That happens to me often with this browser if I leave it alone for too long, for some reason, and I have to kill it with taskkill or manager.

Hi, Addison. When ALT plus F4 doesn't close a browser, in most cases, try CONTROL plus W.

Is there another                                            keystoke that would let you move to the nexunread message?

You can go to task manager, hit g key until it says “google chrome”, then just hit the delete key to end the task. If chrome is already in a non-responsive state (which it sounds like has happened) you will not even get a prompt, hitting delete will just do the trick. Then, check to make sure all instances of google chrome are closed (hit the g key again).

It definitely is a problem related in some way to JAWS, though you’d think it wouldn’t affect task switching behaviour. It’s not exclusive to JAWS 2021 – I definitely had this happen a few times with JAWS 18 and possibly 2018 as well. Restarting JAWS does seem to fix this intermitent problem. Alternatively, there are more efficient ways to switch to desired applications than alt-tabbing (I’m not criticising, I often fall back on this method, too) – a good reason to start using some of them more frequently.

Subject: switching to running programs

I have a slight problem. If I have more than 2 programs running and I try to switch to the 3rd or 4th program with alt, tab I can only switch to the first 2  programs that are  running. Using insert F10 I can see all 4 running programs and switch to the one I want to use. Makes it difficult when I am paying bills and have running the bank, Jaws and my bills paid document. Every time I switch to see what and how much the net  bill is I have tuse insert F10 to switch to the bills paid document. Never was this way till Jaws 2021. How do I get back to where I can alt tab to all the open programs.  Thanks Tom
