Typing in grade 2 problem fixed
Hi folks,
I have no idea how it happened. I don't know what I changed that fixed things, but I am now able to type in grade 2 braille using JFW and Thunderbird. Since I'm not sure what fixed things, I hope it doesn't revert on me. ~Ann

How Can I Copy a Link inside Zoom Chat with JAWS?
Rick Miller
Dear Listers:
Every Sunday during an online Zoom meeting with people from church, the host puts a list of questions for us to consider when in breakout rooms. The questions are in Googledocs, and the link to the questions is always inside Zoom chat. I don’t know if there is a way that this list of questions in Googledocs can be copied from within the chat list and then opened up afterwards. Have any of you ever been faced with this problem, and what did you do about it?

Re: smart word reading
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
Hi, Don. Here is what the option on Smart Reading says:
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Select this check box to have JAWS read the entire text unit, such as a compound word, telephone number, date, time, or math equation, when using the Say Word command. Note: Cursor movement is controlled by the application. So, if Microsoft Word's cursor normally navigates the entire text unit as one word or number, then the text is read in the same way. Likewise, if an application, such as WordPad, navigates through each component of the text unit, then JAWS will read it the same way. This check box is selected by default. Ctrl-Windows-comma reads the column. Ctrl-windows-period reads the row. Alt-ctrl and the arrow keys move from cell to cell--right, left, up, and down. Alt-ctrl-end reads the last cell. Hi, Stan. The JAWS feature for which you are searching is Mouse Echo. This is accomplished in the following way,
1. Press JAWS key plus SPACE, followed by the letter E.
Then perform one of the following commands.

I do not have an answer about the newspaper panels, but it sounds like Vispero has reached the point of requiring folks to use Fusion which is Jaws plus ZoomText, rather than continuing Magic support. Of course, you will have to ask Vispero to be sure.

Hello John,

I am using the Outlook app Office365 version installed on my computer with JAWS2021 and it is working just fine using Focus40 braille display fifth generation. I also tried it on my work computer and same result. At this point, I think that there may be an issue with your locally installed copy of JAWS. Another way to test this is by first exiting Outlook pressing insert space followed by z this will place you in the JAWS default directory similar to how JAWS came from the factory. See if Outlook is still causing an issue with your braille display once you place JAWS in this mode this is a toggle so pressing insert space z will take you back to how JAWS had been configured before.

The other option is to try JAWS 18, or JAWS 19 as these versions of JAWS were written more closely to the date of the version of Excel you want to use. There have been significant changes to Outlook products to improve security and prevent rogue scripts from effecting your system, however this means that JAWS had to completely revanp their way they talk to Outlook products in the last few years.

Cohn, Jonathan
Hello,
Are you attempting to get all information about a table in one shot? Perhaps you can give an example of a site you often visit that is public, and what you would like to review. JAWS has smart table navigation and a dedicated table navigation mode along with features to change the table header information, from what is defined in the table. So JAWS can be very powerful with tables especially if you use a braille display. Jonathan

Actually it’s working in the other apps I’ve tried including word – just not Outlook. And in fact it’s not just my Mantis, it’s my Focus 40. So it appears it might be something to do with settings. I’ve checked Structured mode is on and Braille Sleep is not enabled. It’s the same in Bluetooth and in the USB connection. I’ve loaded the Outlook specific settings with Insert 6 and all looks okay as far as I can tell.

Hi all. Just an observation. Have you verified that your Mantice is being seen by the PC. Usually, when you install a braille display, you can see the info in your device manager. Have you checked there? Also, I’m wondering if the Narrator braille is blocking your access to braille. If braille is installed there, it may be interfering with JAWS and any other screen reader for that matter.
