Good question. I’ve not heard great things about Jaws and Microsoft 2019, so I have not really looked into it. I also haven’t bothered to call Microsoft and ask.

I was curious, so I just looked back and saw that I paid $200 for a 2 upgrade SMA at the end of 2018 for the Professional version. Now my cost is $300. Even if JAWS doesn’t come out with new features that often, I still want to maintain current licenses for compatibility with the newest versions of Windows, Office, Chrome, etc. I’ve been paying for the SMA myself, since it’s easier than dealing with the drawn out procurement process at my company and I want to use JAWS at home, too. Maybe I’ll see if my manager will let me expense part of the cost as a business expense to offset the home versus professional difference.

No, it's obvious what FS is trying to do. They are deliberately making a two-upgrade SMA more expensive for $210 than a two-year license for $180,because they want to gradually migrate all JAWS customers to the licensing arrangement and eliminate the SMA arrangement altogether. Now that JAWS has reached a plateau and few new features can be expected in the future, many JAWS users may simply decide to let their SMA's lapse. But by gradually switching them to the licensing arrangement, JAWS users will have to renew their licenses annually which would be more profitable for FS in the long run.

Can't write email messages using Thunderbird in Grade 2 braille
Hi folks,
I'm running latest Windows10 with Jaws2021 and Thunderbird as my default email client. I originally thought this was an Orbit Reader 20 Plus problem. But I just found out it happens when using an APH Refreshabraille 18 display as well. I have my braille settings set for input and output of Grade 2 braille. When inputting text there is no problem. But when I press the Dot 8 to go to a new line, the display moves to the new line. However, the minute I start to type anything at all, the text is placed back at the top of my email messages. In essence, I'm writing the messages in reverse. This also happened in Jaws2020. I'm sorry I blamed my Orbit Reader for this issue. Does anyone have any thoughts on this, like maybe how to fix it? Thanks for any advice, ~Ann

There is one thing I did not know until I called freedom scientific. If your SMA expires with the 2021 addition, then you only have until January 1 of 21 in order to get it at the lower price. After January 1 they charge you an additional $60 to upgrade.

If I remember correctly I purchased my last SMA for $120 two years ago. Now I am told that the cost will be $150 and that price is only good until Jan 1. Don't know what the price will be after that.

Office 365

Hi All, A question about office 365 version number. My word and outlook apps and so on is 2016, when there are updates, why don’t my apps get updated to 2019? Is there a way to get them updated to 2019?
