Morning Marty,
You need to check the box to Run Jaws from the
system tray, There are several ways to do this, below are a couple.
1. A. From the Jaws screen press the, Alt Key,
press enter on, Options, and press enter on, Basics.
B. From the desktop press, Insert + J, to
bring up the Jaws screen, press the, Alt Key, press enter on, Options, and press
enter on, Basics.
2. Tab several times to, Run Jaws from system
tray, checkbox press the spacebar to check this, now tab to, Okay, and press
enter save / close.
3. You will have to unload Jaws and restart
Jaws to make the change take affect, at least I had to do it this
way.
Take care and stay safe. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go

The JAWS window is now in the group of open windows when I Alt Tab through my open programs. I was able to hide the JAWS window a few versions ago and that setting carried over with subsequent versions, but didn't with 2021. Could someone remind me how to hide the JAWS window again. Actually, Windows security is now more than able to handle your Window's security concerns. Third party anti-virus programs can be more of a pain than a help in circumstances like this.

Like you, the sound card for my HP laptop was
working fine with no problem, after I installed Windows 10. However, after about
3 months, for no reason, JAWS would stop speaking, audio files and audio in
vidio files sometimes did not play at all or, they would play but, there would
be little breaks of silence or, the audio would become choppy. since I
installed Silenzio, there are
times where JAWS will stop speaking for no apparent reason butthe the good thing
is, all my audio files and audio in video files, so far, now play
properly.
When I installed Windows 10 on the other
computers we have, before installing JAWS, I used Narrator to installed
Silenzio on them, to hedge my bets to potentially avoid this
problem occurring on those systems as well.
I never needed a program like Silenzio
using Windows XP or Windows 7 because, I never had the type of audio problems in
the way I have with Windows 10.

I have no need for this as my sound card in my Del laptop is working fine. However, I noticed that the download from Sourceforge was spelled with a z not a c. the one with the z is some Italian software that hasn’t been updated since 2013. The one Mike is posting is spelled with a c and is likely what folks are looking for. Spelling counts.

Hello, Do any of you notice this behavior when using JAWS 2021? I’m writing a document, and sometimes, when I need to backspace, JAWS doesn’t repeat the character that’s been deleted through that method—the backspace key. It’s happened about three times now, and I have my key echo set to words. However, I don’t think this should have any problem, as for now in the currently typed message, the backspace works fine/as usual. This is the only bug I’ve found so far with the new JAWS. Thank you, Ashleigh Piccinino

JAWS 2020 and virus software
Tony Sohl
Hi for people who are having issues with JAWS 2021 and virus software such as Norton and Mcaffee, there is a solution to this problem!
Apparently, from what I'm reading in the thread, the virus programs are treating JAWS like it's a Trojan ,malware or a virus. The software removes JAWS. Once they are removed, enable Windows defender and this should solve the issue. Hope this helps. -- Sent from my Windows 10 HP

Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
A new major version of Jaws is always a "clean install" because it does not upgrade your existing version but installs in addition to your existing version. If you have Jaws 2020 on your system and install Jaws 2021 it does not matter whether you do so from a prompt to update given by Jaws 2020 or whether you go to the Jaws website and download the installer and then install it, afterwards you will have both Jaws 2020 and Jaws 2021 on your system.

Yes, but I would just use the ribbon to select what I want, thanks. I have it on Print view now and that works fine. Sometimes, it will decide it likes to show more than one page and I have to go and set that as well. I wish software companies would stop thinking they know what we want.

I’ve had the same problem in the past. Problem was Word was in page view rather than draft mode. Switch to draft mode(ctrl, alt N) and you should be fine. BTW, if you are the same Richard Turner featured on the past week’s POD cast, Eyes on Success, nice job!

I have a truly crazy thing happening. This happened in Jaws 2020 as well as 2021.
I have about a 9 page document with a simple list of the books we’ve read in our book group since 2008. Each month’s book is on a separate line. I just added the list from 2020. When I then went back to review by arrowing up and down, it suddenly jumped from 2017 to the middle of a list I have at the end of other books that had been suggested.
But, if I select all, and copy into a text editor like Notetab Pro, everything is there as it should be.
Another odd thing is sometimes when arrowing up or down, when I hit a page break that is a “soft page break” meaning I did not put in a hard page break, I get the Windows error sounds and cannot arrow beyond that line into the next page. I have to left arrow from the beginning of the line, or right arrow from the end of the line to get beyond that point. I have the line spacing set to 1, I use Times New Roman 12 point font. I’m not doing any fancy headings or font changes. The window is maximized.
Any ideas what kind of Gremlin I have?
