Also, I'm still running JAWS 2020.
I went to upgrade today and went through the help to check if there were any

So, will have to keep a eye out for the notification to jump to 20201.

Hi. In addition you can usually press a hotkey to invoke the 1Password extension without the need to find the 1Password button next to the address bar. In Chrome this might be shift-ctrl-X. In general, 1Password works well with Chrome. I'm in the process of learning how to use this extension and sometimes I feel like I take several baby steps to learn how to perform one task, which I admit I'm not used to with other pieces of software. In my case I use 1Password with Brave, which does work but it doesn't appear to work as effortlessly with Brave as it does with Chrome. If there are 1Password experts out there I'd love any tips or suggestions you might care to offer.

After you enter your master password, close that window.
You should now be able to go to a username or password field and press down arrow, and it will prompt you with appropriate passwords for that site, if you have more then one login  item for a URL, make sure you label them with names that tell you  which account is which.

moderated reading footnotes in a word document

Hi, I’m using the most recent version of Jaws2020 and word 2016. When just reading a word document is it possible to setup Jaws so footnotes are visable without pressing the windows key plus ;? I know when I move through the document someone else has created, I wouldn’t know there were footnotes unless I was told. I guess I could always look using the windows plus ; keys. Yet if someone is just reading a book on a recreational basis will they know there are footnotes? What about Kindle? Thanks, Kevin

moderated Possible Warning About JAWS 2021 and Speech

Tom Lange

Hi all,

Immediately after installing JAWS 2021 this morning, I noticed that
speech at the beginning of words was being cut off when moving around
in dialog boxes, list views, et cetera. As you can well imagine, the
situation was intolerable and crazy-making . If this happens to you
after installing Fusion or JAWS 2021, you need to do the following to
solve the problem.

Step 1, press Insert+6 on the number row to get into Settings Center.
Step 2, press ctrl+shift+D to switch to the default settings.
Step 3, in the search box, type the word cut. Wait a few seconds for
the search results list to populate. You should see only one result.
It’s an unchecked checkbox with a label that reads as follows.

Avoid speech cutoff when using Bluetooth headphones or some sound cards.

If you tab away from that checkbox to read the explanatory text, you
should see some text that says

“Many modern Bluetooth headphones and speakers shut down after a while
of not receiving sound to conserve battery. If this check box is
selected, JAWS
will keep them awake by constantly playing silence. You will not hear
anything, but your device will remain active, resulting in more
consistent speech.
Note that the battery of your headphones/speakers could drain faster
if you turn this on.
This check box is cleared by default.”

End of explanatory text.

Checking that checkbox will eliminate the speech cutoff. However, the
side effect is that some events will trigger a reduction in speech
volume, which can be troublesome if you’re only using a laptop’s
speakers. I compensated for this dip in volume by using powered, wired
external speakers.

Step 4, tab to the Apply button and press Enter or the space bar.
Step 5, tab to OK and press Enter to close Settings Center.

Note: The checkbox referenced in step 3 above is unchecked by default
in JAWS 2020 and Fusion 2020, and there is no speech cutoff. So this
is a bug which was apparently introduced in 2021 which needs to be
reported to Freedom Scientific.

I hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any questions.

Tom

I'm a fairly regular user of LinkedIn. It's an extremely busy site with a lot going on and, therefore, a lot of content and options to navigate through. However, LinkedIn is most definitely worth your time if you're at all interested in networking and job seeking. I have found it to be an invaluable resource and I can't recommend it highly enough. Parts of it are very accessible and other parts of it could do with some improvement but it's definitely doable.
I would take the time to build your profile with as much detail as is reasonable. Add any roles you've had/have, including volunteer opportunities which might be of relevance or interest to others, along with skills that you have, awards you've received, accomplishments, etc. Search for people who are also members who you'd like to network with but I would recommend doing so only when you feel your profile is at a point where you're comfortable with others viewing it.
I would call LinkedIn a professional networking site rather than a social networking site, such as Facebook. Therefore, keep everything professional. Highlight your professional work and skills but not your favorite foods or TV shows.
I don't have the time to provide one on one support or to answer specific questions about LinkedIn and I honestly don't know the best list or group where questions of this nature can be asked. However, give LinkedIn a chance and I think you may receive many benefits from it.

You didn't state any particular program so, while in the program or
application press, Insert + V, to open Jaws quick settings.  Now
navigate down through all the various settings to see if any column and
row settings options are available.

Hello:

Is there a way to have jaws stop announcing columns and rows?

Thanks for any help.
