Re: Using Edge with JAWS
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
Hi, Adrian. You won't get any verbalization from JAWS. What CONTROL plus SHIFT plus B does is, if you SHIFT plus TAB once, you will see that it adds a Hidden Favorites button to the tool bar. If you press CONTROL plus SHIFT plus B again, it removes this button from the tool bar. The way to get to this tool bar is:
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
1. Open Edge to your Start Page. 2. Go to the top of the page. 3. Press SHIFT plus TAB. 4. If the Hidden Favorites toggle is on, there will be a Hidden Favorites button just before you SHIFT plus TAB to the Settings button. 5. If the Hidden Favorites toggle is off, all you will see when you SHIFT plus TAB is the Settings button. Bill White billwhite92701@dslextreme.com

There are 3 improvements that I remember off the top of my head that I’m excited about in Jaws 2021.
Those are my top hitters. The voice control input is kind of a cool idea, however, it seems a little slow to me in the demos I’ve heard. So the jury for me is out on that item til more power is added and the time delay is shortened.
Have a good day everyone.

Re: Re-install of Jaws 2018

To my knowledge, JAWS does not make any changes to File Explorer. So, what information are you missing? Are you wanting to view “details”? With extensions on, or off? Those kinds of things are decided by the user. I believe extensionsa re hidden by default – a setting I’m certainly quick to change.

Good afternoon: My assistant re-installed windows 10 and then Jaws 2018. Windows explorer is not set in the standard way that Jaws sets it, it's not reading file names and the like. Is this something that Jaws should do automatically or must I go into explorer and fix it? I certainly know how to do that, just surprised at what I'm seeing on the new install. Thanks.

After you enter the group name you should be presented with your list of contacts so you can highlight the ones you want in the group. The e-mail addresses must be in your contact list before you can create a group.

Hello Group, Up until recently, I had no real reason to create groups from my Contacts using Outlook. However, at this point, I’m involved with a number of activities within my community where this feature is something that would be convenient as a contact option. I had spoken with Bill White about this and rather to use the ribbon commands, he suggested using Control/Shift/L where I create a group name. After identifying a group name, I tabbed one time to the Members Table field, arrowing down to identify contacts to fill the group. At this point, I received a message that “Members list table is unavailable.” Am I on the right track, or it there another way to build a group?

Hi All
I have found the solution.
Regards From:
main@jfw.groups.io [mailto:main@jfw.groups.io] On Behalf Of Van Lant, Robin via groups.io
Dean, Are you sure the attachment is opening in a Microsoft office program outside your email client? To your point, if I have an attachment open and it’s in protected view, I can hit Insert T to read the title and it will announced that it’s in protected view, then use one of the methods like F6 to get to the bar where I can hit the enable editing button. The reason I ask is that there is an annoying setting in Outlook that will open attachments in “preview”, which is actually showing a preview of the attachment within Outlook and, in my recollection, that won’t read at all. It’s typically the first context menu option if you right click the attachment and, quite possibly, a default setting in Outlook. I recall having to make an adjustment in Outlook Options somewhere to disable the preview.

Hello,

Both NVDA and JAWS have single key navigation and unless you are using flowto or main region quick nav then NVDA has pretty much the same quick navigation keys. I don’t believe however that web developers who are told to turn on a screen reader and see if everything talks would know these commands unless they review one of the tutorials on an accessibility web site or employ disabled people. Most training courses I have experienced have the other difficulty that they like to use animations on screen to demonstrate how to do something. Generally, these animations show up to screen readers as either a large graphic or a flash movie. It is possible to add accessibile elements that mirror the animated information, but this is generally only done when the required by the contract. Best Wishes, Jonathan Cohn

Agree with Brian that the autocomplete doesn’t work as well as it did in the past, or at least in the way I would want it to. I find value in clearing out my autocomplete list at work if I’ve just done a project with a lot or random email addresses in int that I don’t normally use. I do appreciate that autocomplete doesn’t’ pull in a large list of everyone in the exchange address book, as that would be a really long list for me., but I’m often surprised at how and when it pulls in familiar addresses I use regularly. If I know an adders I have started to type is in my contacts or company address book, I’ll type a couple letters then use Control K to open the search dialog. It’s similar to the To: button Brian mentioned, but easier for me to access on the fly. I’m not sure why Microsfot got rid of the old keyboard shortcut of alt period to jump to the To button.
