I’m sure you can that would just Google it. Find out which voice edges using and then select it.

Hello,
Both NVDA and JAWS have single key navigation and unless you are using flowto or main region quick nav then NVDA has pretty much the same quick navigation keys. I don’t believe however that web developers who are told to turn on a screen reader and see if everything talks would know  these commands unless they review one of the tutorials on an accessibility web site or employ disabled people.
Most training courses   I have experienced have the other difficulty that they like to use animations on screen to demonstrate how to do something. Generally, these animations show up to screen readers as either a large graphic or a flash movie. It is possible to add accessibile elements that mirror the animated information, but this is generally only done when the required by the contract.
Best Wishes,

This is a fair question. While there are occasionally some differences in the way that JAWS and NVDA conveys information about what's on a Web page it's reasonably safe to say that pages which pass a manual audit with NVDA would likely do so with JAWS. If anything, if they only tested with JAWS and not NVDA I'd actually be a bit more concerned due to the fact that JAWS has a tendency to guess what should be read with forms that may not properly conform to current standards. This is actually great for the user but can give false positives to the one doing the testing. As long as their code is properly written and marked up you should be OK.

In my current university context, I am teaching a course developed by a company that is external to the university. So, my question, is it likely that I will find incompatibility with JAWS when they only test with NVDA?

Thanks for any info – I want to be able to give them some feedback.

Agree with Brian that the autocomplete doesn’t work as well as it did in the past, or at least in the way I would want it to. I find value in clearing out my autocomplete list at work if I’ve just done a project with a lot or random email addresses in int that I don’t normally use.  I do appreciate that autocomplete doesn’t’ pull in a large list of everyone in the exchange address book, as that would be a really long list for me., but I’m often surprised at how and when it pulls in familiar addresses I use regularly.  If I know an adders I have started to type is in my contacts or company address book, I’ll type a couple letters then use Control K to open the search dialog. It’s similar to the To: button Brian mentioned, but easier for me to access on the fly.  I’m not sure why Microsfot got rid of the old keyboard shortcut of alt period to jump to the To button.

Vaughn,

Let me try to describe what I see happening under Outlook 2016.  There appears to be some interaction between "who I've sent or received an e-mail to/from before" and the Address Book when you type a name rather than all or just a distinctive part of an e-mail address.  Why this is, or how to change it, I cannot explain.

I have never used Outlook to send a message to my partner, Jim.  However I have previously sent messages to another Jim and a Jill, too.  When I type the two characters Ji (note the capital J) I instantly get a dropdown list appearing with the other Jim and Jill, from which I can select either of the two, but my partners address does not appear.

Contrast that with what I get when I type the single character j (lower case).  What shows up is the two previously noted Jim and Jill, plus several additional e-mail addresses I've sent to before, all of which contain the letter j somewhere in them, but my partner's name and e-mail address is still not among the things shown.

Now, I've gone and sent my partner a message using only his e-mail address, but not fetching anything from the Address book.  When I next go to create a new message and type j into the To field the first item in the list is now his e-mail address, followed by all the others, so most recently sent, and exactly what was used in the sending, is at the top of the list of options.

Since doing all those tests, I opened Options when I was in the compose window, and activated the Empty Auto-Complete List.  After doing that, no e-mail addresses or names show up when I type a part or all of a name in the To field.  I can enter multiple names separated by semicolon.  If I hit Send, Outlook will begin asking me which address I want if there exists more than one for a given typed name, or just plugging in what's associated with it if there's one.

So, after all of that, I can say I don't get anything in the auto-complete dropdown list that acts like what it appears you and I were used to in the past.  When I need to select names from my address book I activate the button for the To/CC/BCC fields and use search and select in the dialog that comes up, as I know a number of the addresses I want to use, and would think should pre-populate in that autocomplete list, are not doing so.

The best explanation of how autocomplete works comes straight from the horse mouth:

Information about the Outlook AutoComplete list

Note well in the statement, "The list contains SMTP addresses, LegacyExchangeDN entries, and display names for people to whom you have sent mail previously."  (emphasis mine).

So, if you have just set up a new instance of Outlook, the building of the AutoComplete List starts from scratch (if you haven't imported a pre-existing one) so until you send messages to someone for the first time, they're not going to show up.

I find it odd that there isn't a use of the Address Book in generating the auto-complete list.  The article also goes into how you can import existing autocomplete lists from other Outlook instances, which I've never done.

Sorry for the length of this, but clearly autocomplete isn't what many of us think it should be.

Hello Group,

Up until recently, I had no real reason to create groups from my Contacts using Outlook. However, at this point, I’m involved with a number of activities within my community where this feature is something that would be convenient as a contact option.

I had spoken with Bill White about this and rather to use the ribbon commands, he suggested using Control/Shift/L where I create a group name. After identifying a group name, I tabbed one time  to the Members Table field, arrowing down to identify contacts to fill the group. At this point, I received a message that “Members list table is unavailable.”

Am I on the right track, or it there another way to build  a group?

For me I stay updated for the following reasons:

OS systems and programs are changing rapidly and with hnumerous updates.  Falling behind with JAWS can risk problems with the software interacting with the latest updates of apps and even the OS itself.

Each version of JAWS seems to get a bit snappier and responsive although , to be sure, problems remain and always will with any piece of software.

New features are constantly added and modified.  Each new version offers more accessibility with one or more programs.

I am not advocating that one must keep JAWS always with the latest version , cost and other issues prevent this, but I have found it helpful to do so.

As I said updates can be subjective because we all use the program in different ways and with diverse pieces of software.  JAWS 2021 does a better job with Outlook than past versions however if I don’t use Outlook I may say not much difference.

Does this make all clear as mud.  😊

Hi,

I’m running one of the jaws 2021 Vedas, and I’m not sure which one. I keep being told that my software is up-to-date. Have there been any new releases?

Thanks,

That is what I am hearing as well.

I would guess in very early November.

Beta three is in private beta now and will be released publicly very soon.

Find out more on Wednesday evening on Main Menu Live as we have Eric Damery with us in hour 1 to talk about JAWS and its release.

Brian Hartgen will be with us in Hour 2 to talk about the many things available to us from Leasey.

Hello,

I gave them at Fredom Scientific a call yesterday to see if maybe I could find out and a sales person said that sometime in the 1st or 2nd week of next month November, we will be able to download the oficial release copy of Jaws2021. Hopefully this is when we will be able to at the latest!

Yes, the exact minute FS announces it.

Sadly, these kinds of questions cannot be answered until the mother company says something.

Hi,

As annoying as these questions are, and I agree they are annoying, it is a legal requirement. Also as much as the questions cause us grief the people are not “idiots” rather individuals created in the image of God trying their best to carry out the duties and requirements of the companies they work for on a daily basis.

Don't you love people who ask retorical questions.... When I lived in the US, the idiots who annoyed and exasperated me more, were those who worked at the utility companies, who were programmed to ask their customers the question, "do I have your permition to access your account". My answer to them was, "why would I be calling your company, if I did not have a question about my account".

Hi All,

In my current university context, I am teaching a course developed by a company that is external to the university. I keep running into things that are not easily accessible, and they have told me they are only testing accessibility with NVDA. So, my question, is it likely that I will find incompatibility with JAWS when they only test with NVDA?

Thanks for any info – I want to be able to give them some feedback.

Hi, Amanda. The following two Edge shortcuts may be helpful to you, especially the latter.

Ctrl + Shift + B
Show or hide the favorites bar

Ctrl + Shift + O

Hey ya'll,

I recently gave up the IE ghost, and find Edge to be useable.

I was wondering, is there a keystroke or an easy way to access your
favorites? For example, in IE, it was alt+a... but I don't see
anything like that in Edge. I use my favorites a lot, so was hoping
someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Amanda
