Depends on how you use the program and with what different types of software.

Each version of JAWS seems to get a bit snappier and responsive although , to be sure, problems remain and always will with any piece of software.

New features are constantly added and modified.  Each new version offers more accessibility with one or more programs.

I am not advocating that one must keep JAWS always with the latest version , cost and other issues prevent this, but I have found it helpful to do so.

As I said updates can be subjective because we all use the program in different ways and with diverse pieces of software.  JAWS 2021 does a better job with Outlook than past versions however if I don’t use Outlook I may say not much difference.

Does this make all clear as mud.  😊

I gave them at Fredom Scientific a call yesterday to see if maybe I could find out and a sales person said that sometime in the 1st or 2nd week of next month November, we will be able to download the oficial release copy of Jaws2021. Good afternoon: My assistant re-installed windows 10 and then Jaws 2018. Windows explorer is not set in the standard way that Jaws sets it, it's not reading file names and the like. Is this something that Jaws should do automatically or must I go into explorer and fix it? I certainly know how to do that, just surprised at what I'm seeing on the new install.

Thanks.

Hello Group,

Up until recently, I had no real reason to create groups from my Contacts using Outlook. However, at this point, I’m involved with a number of activities within my community where this feature is something that would be convenient as a contact option.

I had spoken with Bill White about this and rather to use the ribbon commands, he suggested using Control/Shift/L where I create a group name. After identifying a group name, I tabbed one time  to the Members Table field, arrowing down to identify contacts to fill the group. At this point, I received a message that “Members list table is unavailable.”

Am I on the right track, or it there another way to build  a group?

I just switched to Edge from Groogle Chrome and find it works well with both NVDA and Jaws.  I have it set to show the favorites bar.  To get to favorites I just tab until I hear favorite bar then use the right arrow key to go through my favorites.

Hi,

As annoying as these questions are, and I agree they are annoying, it is a legal requirement. Also as much as the questions cause us grief the people are not “idiots” rather individuals created in the image of God trying their best to carry out the duties and requirements of the companies they work for on a daily basis.

Hi All,

In my current university context, I am teaching a course developed by a company that is external to the university. I keep running into things that are not easily accessible, and they have told me they are only testing accessibility with NVDA. So, my question, is it likely that I will find incompatibility with JAWS when they only test with NVDA?

Thanks for any info – I want to be able to give them some feedback.

Hi, Amanda. The following two Edge shortcuts may be helpful to you, especially the latter.

Ctrl + Shift + B
Show or hide the favorites bar

Ctrl + Shift + O
Open Favorites management

Hey ya'll,

I recently gave up the IE ghost, and find Edge to be useable.

I was wondering, is there a keystroke or an easy way to access your
favorites? For example, in IE, it was alt+a... but I don't see
anything like that in Edge. I use my favorites a lot, so was hoping
someone could point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Amanda

Hi, Dave. First, you spelled rhetorical wrongly. Secondly, they weren't asking you if you had a question about your account. They were legally asking you if you would give them permission to access your account. The calls are often recorded or monitored, so, if they don't ask you if they have your permission to access your account, they could be considered to be invading your privacy, or, in some instances, even to be breaking the law. Not knowing the legal world may be causing you to be making some very unfounded assumptions. These questions may not be rhetorical at all.

Don't you love people who ask retorical questions.... When I lived in the US, the idiots who annoyed and exasperated me more, were those who worked at the utility companies, who were programmed to ask their customers the question, "do I have your permition to access your account". My answer to them was, "why would I be calling your company, if I did not have a question about my account".

Yes, the exact minute FS announces it.

Sadly, these kinds of questions cannot be answered until the mother company says something.

moderated Re-install of Jaws 2018

John J. Fioravanti, Jr.

Thanks.

Justin,

After you enter the group name you should be presented with your list of contacts so you can highlight the ones you want in the group. The e-mail addresses must be in your contact list before you can create a group.

Best, Justin

I think what I’m finding is all of the ways I can navigate quickly are not always available when they don’t test with jaws.

This is a fair question. While there are occasionally some differences in the way that JAWS and NVDA conveys information about what's on a Web page it's reasonably safe to say that pages which pass a manual audit with NVDA would likely do so with JAWS. If anything, if they only tested with JAWS and not NVDA I'd actually be a bit more concerned due to the fact that JAWS has a tendency to guess what should be read with forms that may not properly conform to current standards. This is actually great for the user but can give false positives to the one doing the testing. As long as their code is properly written and marked up you should be OK.

Cohn, Jonathan

OFten times, people try to develop accessibility without understanding how accessibility  tools are used by a disabled person. Generally, an accessible web site wil work with NVDA, JAWS and VoiceOver. Sometimes developers think that the only way blind users navigate is with the tab key.  Other times they don’t understand browse mode vs forms mode.
Is any of their site visible to non-paying client?

MailChimp seems to be fairly accessible. Would you like help setting things up?

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone on this list is using mailchimp successfully with JAWS.

If you have any strategies that would be great.

I am interest in figuring out how to successfully navigate toad subscribers from my current email distribution list in Outlook giving people options to subscribe and unsubscribe.

I attended a webinar today but the screen was not being explained sufficiently for me to figure it out.

I would also appreciate any formatting suggestions as I will have a similar format for a daily email communication that will include text, a YouTube link and an image.

Thank-you.

Respectfully yours,
