Re: A Question About JAWS Accessibility
Lee Anne Atkinson
Hi Lynn,
I have successfully used JAWS with a virtual desktop. JAWS needs to be installed on the virtual desktop as well as your "personal" desktop. I cannot recall the keyboard commands to switch between desktops but it does work. If you want to email me off list you can do that.
Best, Lee Anne

Hello everyone. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there. I am currently job hunting for transcription jobs I can do from home and some of them say that my computer needs to be able to run virtual desktop interface. Does anyone know if that is accessible with JAWS? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Lynne Moore

It is pretty standard that you pay for shipping to a company, but they will cover the shipping back since it is under warranty.

I recommend sending things via Priority Mail through the US post office. It is much cheaper than FedEx or UPS and you can track the package etc. I hope you communicate with them before sendning it in and had done all the steps to exercise the pins and generate the log files to send them.... Hi David, that's helpful. Thank you for telling me. I actually did the same thing two years ago and luckily I have the DVD for Jaws 18 so I end up reinstalling Jaws 18 on my computer and got fSReader back. I guess i should consider using your method next time. Thanks again. HBO Max is at long last joining the ranks of streaming services which will include audio description, thanks to a settlement announced today. Per the agreement, the service will include at least 1,500 hours of described content by next March, and at least four times that amount by March 2023. Improvements to their website and mobile apps are also promised by September of next year. If you export your settings beforehand you can
import them back after you do the repair. Steps below.
You export all your settings by going into the
Jaws context menu with, Jaws key + J, if you run Jaws from the system
tray. Then go to, Utilities / Import
/ Export settings submenu and press enter. Now arrow down to, Export settings..., press enter, now make sure that the, Export all settings radio button is selected. Tab to, next, press spacebar. You're now in a dialog to select a name & save location, but the file will already be named and the default location is the desktop, so tab to finish , press enter and all your settings for that Jaws version will be saved to the desktop. After you install Jaws just import this settings file. How to Import Your Exported settings
1. Launch your JAWS context menu by pressing,
Insert + J.
2. Use the arrow keys and find utilities.
3. Find and click on the Import/Export settings
menu
4. Click on the Import Settings…
5. A dialogue will appear which says “a backup
file”, so choose the browse option and find the backup file.
6. Press next

I don’t know how to turn on notifications in Google Chrome. From what I have read, it sounds to me like when you turn on notifications in Google chrome you get notifications from other web sites, which I don’t want to do. Am I right or am I wrong? If you can tell me how to turn on notifications in Google Chrome I would appreciate it.

Hi Rick, i'm a user of Google calendar and here are the following question that I may want to ask you. 1. Did you turn on Notification for Google Chrome? If you've turned on Notification for Chrome, you should get a push notification everytime you scheduled a meeting with Calendar. Best regards michael munn

It is not necessary to uninstall JAWS. Instead, run the installer
for your version of JAWS and choose "repair" from the list of
options. If you don't have the installer for your version you can
obtain it by going to the Freedom Scientific Web site and selecting
the Downloads link. Doing a repair will likely bring JAWS back to a
default state, meaning that voice settings and hotkeys will go back
to their original settings.

1. In Excel, go to advanced options: alt-f, then t, then a. 2. Tab to "allow editing directly in cells" and be sure it is not checked. Good luck!

I have had some of that myself. Try using that control home after you hit the key to edit the cell. It seems to go back to the beginning of the cell and you could then arrow to the right.

Addison, There are several ways. On the fly, I like to select the text I want to adjust then hit control period. You’ll hear JAWS announce the font size in increments each time you hit that key combination. You can also hit Control D to open a font dialog box to adjust all sorts of aspects or type in a font size.

Re: braille display with jaws

I currently use the Q Braille, and it does work well with both my iDevices, and my computer. I do have to use the USB connection with JAWS. Bluetooth doesn’t seem to be very good. It does work, but I notice a bit of a lag when I use my display like this. I don’t know if that is JAWS related, or if it is just the way the Bluetooth connectivity works with my Windows PC.

Ali, Orbit Research will be releasing a 40 cell display very soon. Their 20 cell is quite good. The 40 will cost about $1400. Freedom Scientific sells their Focus 40 5th jeneration display for around $2800. Humanware and The American Printing House for the blind have released their Mantis 40 cell display that has a TWERTY Keyboard instead of a braille keyboard for around $2500. HIMS has the QBraille 40 that I believe is about $3200. I hope that helps you get started.
