1. In Excel, go to advanced options: alt-f, then t, then a. 2. Tab to "allow editing directly in cells" and be sure it is not checked. Good luck!

Do Google Calendar Notifications work with JAWS?

A Question About JAWS Accessibility
Lynne Moore
Hello everyone. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy out there. I am currently job hunting for transcription jobs I can do from home and some of them say that my computer needs to be able to run virtual desktop interface. Does anyone know if that is accessible with JAWS? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Lynne Moore

I have had some of that myself. Try using that control home after you hit the key to edit the cell. It seems to go back to the beginning of the cell and you could then arrow to the right.

Re: braille display with jaws
Michael Mote
I currently use the Q Braille, and it does work well with both my iDevices, and my computer. I do have to use the USB connection with JAWS. Bluetooth doesn’t seem to be very good. It does work, but I notice a bit of a lag when I use my display like this. I don’t know if that is JAWS related, or if it is just the way the Bluetooth connectivity works with my Windows PC.

Ali, Orbit Research will be releasing a 40 cell display very soon. Their 20 cell is quite good. The 40 will cost about $1400. Freedom Scientific sells their Focus 40 5th jeneration display for around $2800. Humanware and The American Printing House for the blind have released their Mantis 40 cell display that has a TWERTY Keyboard instead of a braille keyboard for around $2500. HIMS has the QBraille 40 that I believe is about $3200. I hope that helps you get started.

There is an easier way. Open a blank document. Press the applications key or shift+f10. Hit f for font. Make your adjustments. Tab to “set as default. Press spacebar or enter. You will have a dialog that asks, for this document only, or for all documents based on the normal template, which is a radio button you tab to. Once you set it to all documents, hit enter or tab to OK and hit enter. Then, every document will be using that default.

Hi Ashleigh.
My PC has Bluetooth, and I use my Focus 40 Blue 5th Gen with no USB connection to it. In fact, the only time I have a USB cable between the Focus and PC is either when I’m copying books to the Focus, or when I’m updating the firmware. When Bluetooth works, it’s great, and this new Asus is wonderful. My old Lenovo, on the other hand, was very intermittent in terms of Bluetooth.

Hello, You could try the Focus 40 Blue 5th Generation from Freedom Scientific. It’s spendy, about 3,000 dollars. However, it’s well worth it in the end. This is wireless, of course untill you need the USB to charge. However, works well with JAWS connectivity. Unfortunately, need usb connected to use with JAWS on your PC. Ashleigh Piccinino

Re: jaws2020 fonts letter size
Richard,
That is, indeed, much easier. I imagine it's a "more recent" feature, too, where "recent" could be a long while back. I've been using the method of directly editing the Normal.dot (or dotm, later) file for many decades now. If Word is, for all practical intents and purposes, allowing you to do this as you describe then it is much easier. Don, You don't really have to worry about saving the original. If you nuke whatever Normal.dotm is in the folder Word will generate another one, and it will be generated with the defaults. Now if your original is already modified in one way, and you're not sure about the tweaks you're making, it makes absolute sense to save the existing Normal.dotm as something like OrigNormal.dotm before going back and making the tweaks. It's really a matter of what your fall back Normal.dotm should be for you. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Re: jaws2020 fonts letter size
Addison,
If you want any document you create as a blank document to have 16-point font size all the time, you need to edit your Normal.dotm file, change it there, then save it. This file is located in your AppData folder for your account, which is typically not accessible for anyone unless you turn on Show Hidden Files, Folders and Drives, at least so you can get at it then you can turn that setting off again, in Control Panel, File Explorer Options, View Tab. Once that's done, Open Word, then open file and navigate to C:\Users\{whatever belongs here for your account}\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates and you'll find Normal.dotm there, which is the file you'll select to open. Once it's open, change whatever it is that you'd like, including but not limited to font face, size, etc., then save the file. After that, all blank documents that you open will have the attributes that you set up in your Normal.dotm template. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.
