1. Press alt-f for the files menu and backstage view.
2. Press the letter 't' for options. This displays a list of categories

3. Arrow to the final category, which is trust center.
4. Tab to trust center settings dot dot dot and press enter. Here is yet

Hello,

I'm using the most recent versions of Jaws2020 and MS word2016. When
ever someone sent me a MS word file it is always in protected mode.
A number of people that sent me the file didn't send the file in
protected mode. Is there a way to stop this from happening? To read it
I have to move in and out of the window. I cannot save the file so I
would copy it and paste it in another file. I was able to save
attachments in Outlook. I still would like to be able to open the file
from the email, read it and then save it.

Thanks,

Thanks. I was just about to ask how to remove protective view from a document that was sent to me a few years ago. The person in question, just resent it to me in unprotected mode. I obviously don’t need to remove the protective view now, but, it is good to know these things in the future.

Thank you Mr. Vogel.

I have a very nit-picky request.

Since your link did not say it was to a word document, I clicked on it thinking it would take me to a web site.

Since I know you are trustworthy, I opened the file and enable editing.

Please state when a link is to a file rather than a web resource.

Or, what I and others might prefer is to just paste the contents into the body of the message.

Like I say, I know that is being a bit nit-picky, but there you have it.

Thanks for the directions, they are very helpful.

Adjusting Protected View Settings in MS-Office Programs

I am like Mr. Turner in that I only open any MS-Office file format if I have every reason to believe it is safe to do so. Anything downloaded, whether via e-mail or otherwise, is scanned by Windows Security before I can ever touch it.

I agree that Microsoft is trying to be helpful, but for me, personally, it's overkill. If one is circumspect about what one opens, and the sources from which one will open something, you are very unlikely to have an issue. If you're someone who does not wish to do this, then keep protected mode on, as it could save a world of hurt.

Well, I’ve solved the problem myself. When you get into Google Calendar and find it is speaking in a foreign language you hit the Application key and arrow down to where it says Translate into English and hit the Enter key. Once it gets translated you can go to the Settings page. I did this, and guess what? The default language was not English. It was Slovokian. There is a place in Settings where you can choose the language you want. I chose English United States, hit the Enter key, waited for the setting to change and voila!!! It works!!!

I use Google Calendar al the time with Jaws, but I’m using Microsoft Edge rather than Chrome. I’ve never encountered the language issue with it. I suggest trying a different browser. Also, the app is quite accessible, I use both concurrently with no issue at all.

If you’d like to troubleshoot one-on-one, feel free to reach out and we can have a chat. Not to worry group, if Rick does choose this option, I’ll write out a “how we fixed it”. 😊

I haven't had a chance to look at google calendar directly, and your message had too much information to really parse what was going on. If I heard it correctly, it sounded like you had two languages going on for the calendar, and that you were getting US holidays. If you use Gmail with the full version (not the html only version), does that at least read correctly for you?

As you can hear, this is definitely a foreign language.

I am sending a “cc,â€ of this message to
Vispero Support with the hope that either one of
you or one of them will be able to put a finger
on what is happening and possibly tell me how to
rectify this problem and have Google Calendar start speaking in English.

Thank you for any help you can give.

It works!!!

Hi Rick,

I use Google Calendar al the time with Jaws, but I’m using Microsoft Edge rather than Chrome. I’ve never encountered the language issue with it. I suggest trying a different browser. Also, the app is quite accessible, I use both concurrently with no issue at all.

If you’d like to troubleshoot one-on-one, feel free to reach out and we can have a chat. Not to worry group, if Rick does choose this option, I’ll write out a “how we fixed it”. 😊

HTH,

Sarah

Did any of you get the message I sent on Monday about the trouble I am having accessing Google calendar? I have not heard from anybody and this morning I can’t even get hold of Freedom Scientific.

Dear Listers:

Recently I listened to a Freedom Scientific archived webinar from last year that talked about using JAWS with Google Calendar. I have decided I want to try to learn to use Google Calendar but every time I go to calendar.google.com JAWS starts speaking to me in a foreign language. When I called Freedom Scientific Technical Support they told me several other people had had the same problem and said it had something to do with Google settings. I went to my Google account, signed in using Facebook, found Settings, and when I checked to see what language was the default language it showed English United States, which is just the language setting I thought I had. Then after discovering that the default language was the correct one I got out of my Google account and opened up Google Chrome, which is my Internet browser, hit the Alt+L keystroke to open up the addressbar, entered calendar.google.com, and hit the Enter key. When the page loaded, here is what was on it:

Does anyone know how to have RSS feeds show up in Outlook in the RSS folder?

Richard,

I think I borrowed the “compact” terminology from the iphone. The Nathan I am using is the basic one that comes installed with JAWS Vocalizer. I tried, but did not like the Nathan Premium, so it’s not that one. I’m going to be out of pocket for a few day, but can test more with my personal laptop later.

🍷

Hi,

How do you get the compact voices?

I installed Nathan Premium and yes, the emoji panel reads fine but when I selected the above Wine glass and read that line it says “12.”

It will say more after I send this.

When I went to add voices, I did not find an option for compact. I’d like to compare Apple to Apples, granted, since I am on the beta, it is more like comparing Red delicious with Fuji apples.

🤣

💕

Using Outlook 365 and Windows 10. I Just inserted the above to emojis from the Windows emoji panel and Nathan Compact in JAWS 2020 February or March release, announced them correctly, both on the panel and after inserting. As I write this message, the top one says “rolling on the floor laughing” and the second says “two hearts”. I’m not on JAWS 2021 yet, so I wonder if that is an issue with the new version.

But, after you select the emoji, before you send the message, what does it say with the Vocalizer voice.

Hi,

I assume that this is not the case with other synthesizers such as Eloquence and Windows OneCore (OneCore voices are best ones to use when dealing with emojis). If I’m correct, it is something to ask Nuance through Vispero.

Cheers,

Joseph

Thanks Joseph,

Very interesting.

I tried SAPI 5 and Eloquence and they read the emoji just fine.

I went back to my default of Tom enhanced from Vocalizer and it read it when I re-read a sent message.

Then, I just added one here and it just says 12.

Hi,

This is a synthesizer issue, and unless JAWS is told to process certain Unicode symbols directly and send them to synths, it won’t be able to read emojis and some Unicode symbols correctly.

Cheers,

Joseph

I find I have to use Narrator to arrow through the emoji panel, and after picking one, Narrator reads the emoji just fine.

Jaws 2021 reads a number.

I sent a note to a friend who has a great job at a place where it is not uncommon for the office to go out for a drink at 3 PM to end the day. So I used the whiskey glass emoji. Narrator reads it accurately. Jaws 2021 says “twelve.”

Any thoughts about how Jaws can be made to speak the emoji?
