Hello,

You could create an announce only list on one of the mailing list providers groups.io, google groups etcetera and have people subscribe to it. There are also means of making the list a private list with some of these providers. Then work with the mail client such as Outlook or other client to schedule the email delivery. This would go out as long as you had the client opened. If this is not a workable solution there are probably email services that will allow for scheduling an email for later sending. One that comes to mind is later.io

Good evening Sharon,
To my knowledge MailChimp is not accessible. However, I’ve created a test mailing list on one of my domains and everything is settable from the CPanel. If that is something you would like to explore further, let me know and I’ll spin you up a sandbox to play in.

Hi, I have been doing a bulk email distribution using a distribution list in my contacts but it has had issues and people need to contact me to get added or removed. I would like to use a provider that will support independent profile access to manage their own subscription preferences.
This would be emails being sent out, not a discussion list. It needs to be able to accommodate inclusion of images and YouTube links.
I send a daily email in this manner. I need to be able to set the delivery time. Is mailchimp screen reader friendly? Any guidance appreciated, for this or other providers.
Respectfully yours, Sharon Ballantyne

For me it occurred further in the process. After I told it I needed office related tech support it came through with a recording that they are currently not taking phone calls. I was also thinking it probably had to do with COVID.

Right now you may have troubles getting through to Microsoft’s disability answer desk. The last couple of days I’ve called them about an issue and once you get through their automated system and tell it that you want either Office or Windows, it says that they are unavailable to provide support at this time and it tells you to go to their website. This happened multiple times when I called in the last few days.

Hi
Unfortunately eLearning developers and accessibility don't always go hand in hand at the moment. I assume the online courses are Scorm compliant as most HR learning systems would require this for ensuring course completion and tracking etc. We just need to continue to encourage eLearning developers to take into account the needs of people with disability when crating the learning items. That has been my experience. Not sure if pausing the naration and using PictureSmart would help at all - I haven't tried that approach. Sorry I can't provide any other practical solutions. - -- Mark Fisher Principal - HR Systems Water Corporation

The greeting is standard, but when you reach the point of waiting for assistance, they inform you that their system is no longer able to accept calls for the foreseeable future. I think it may be system wide as I called another Microsoft number and got the same message. Why that message does not come up immediately when you call the Accessibility Line is baffling.

Since I have nothing I need to take up with Microsoft related to accessibility I wasn't about to start stepping through menus, so I realize this could occur further in to the process. But no one should be surprised at limited availability of any given resource during this time. Sometimes multiple calls until you luck out and someone's answering is happening all over the place these days. And that's not a defense of Microsoft, just an observation regarding life in the time of Covid-19 and limited staffing. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Hi Cynthia,
I just had to complete a course for my job that sounds somewhat similar to what you and Robin describe. I did use AIRA to assist in finding the button to navigate to the next screen. Actually, once I maximized the particular window where the course contents were, I was able to navigate without many issues after that. I was also able to access the imbedded buttons that brought up additional information using JAWS.
I have another one of these courses due by next week, so I don’t know if my experience will be different with that one. These courses seem to notoriously have accessibility issues.

Ha, good question, and I’m not convinced I can answer it well because I have never created one. So, Robin can probably explain better.
Essentially, it seems to be a series of power point slides that have a recorded narration. There are also buttons embedded in the slide sometimes to take you to other activities. Right now, I only hear the narration. I can’t read the text on the slide and cant navigate to any of the buttons to either go to activities or advance to the next slide.
Thanks, Robin, for your helpful comments – I will check them out.

Hi All,
I am using JAWS 2020, and my new university employer is requiring that I complete training modules in a couple of different areas. The on line modules were created by the e-learning branch of our institution, and they seem to use narrated power points a lot. I am sure it is possible that I am missing something, but I have tried to access these multiple times and can’t get beyond the introductory slide. The screen just seems to be blank. I used Chrome since tis is what they recommended, but I have tried others using other browsers.
Is there a way to move through these, or am I out of luck?
Thanks,
Cynthia

Not only that, but their customer sales and support phone number, 800-444-4443, doesn't seem to be working, either. When you call them, there's no answer, and it just keeps ringing and ringing. This doesn't make any sense because FS employees have been working from home during the ppandemic, so somebody should be available to answer the phone. Very strange.
