Randy, Is this security thing a default on all windows

be bypassed by running a scan on the drive when it is plugged in?

I am using Windows 7 and the latest JAWS on a desktop computer
that I copied a folder with 2 subfolders containing Word documents onto a flash
drive. I gave a friend this flash drive . the first sub folder has
over 200 Word documents, some .doc and some .docx files and the second sub
folder had 11 Word documents in it. My friend has 2 laptops both running
Windows 10. He is not a JAWS user as he is sighted. When he plugs
this flash drive in to either of these computers, he can see the folder and
subfolders, but when he opens the subfolders, there are no files in them.
Can any one please tell me why? We first thought that the flash drive was
corrupt, so he gave me another drive to try and the same thing happened.
Both drives work fine on my computer, that is I can access the files.

Be My Eyes makes accessible voting information available through its appTangela Mahaffey Sep 30, 2020 10:03 PM ET
Voting is important, in 2020 perhaps more so than ever. However, the ongoing COVID19 changes mean that this process looks different than it has in years past. Be My Eyes is making accessible voting information available by state in its app. See the text of the Be My Eyes email, and find out about some patriotic items available from the National Braille Press, below. As blind and low-vision people, we are underestimated and underrepresented every day of our lives. Voting in an election is our chance to change that. We may only turn out a few
million strong, but in an election, that can make a big difference. Using Be My Eyes, you can check whether you are registered to vote, be guided through registering if you are not already, and receive information about voting by mail and COVID-19 guidelines specific to your state. According to Will Butler, president of Be my Eyes, "In a time where social distancing is still a huge part of daily lives for all Americans, it’s more important than ever that everyone has a way to access all necessary information, to make sure that they are motivated and confident about voting come November." Inn order to access voting information and assistance, open the Be My Eyes app, enter the Specialized Help menu and select Vote.org from the list of available organizations in the “Civic Engagement” category. Vote.org volunteers will be open to take your calls through Be My Eyes Monday through Friday 12pm to 4pm ET. Additionally, the National Braille press has begun to offer several braille and tactile items potentially of interest to voters across the nation. The Declaration of Independence and Constitution of the United States are available as a brf document or single volume braille book. You can receive 1 copy of these documents, in either downloadable braille file or physical braille book, free of charge, and can email the National Braille Press at orders@... to discuss the cost of receiving multiple copies. The National Braille Press also provides a tactile American flag with the pledge of aleagance written in either contracted or uncontracted braille. The product discription reads, Does your child or student know what the American flag looks like? Have they read the Pledge of Allegiance? You can buy your tactile flag now for $5.00

Word Press Accessibility Day October 2
Norma A. Boge
Hi group,
Although targeted to website developers, this event offers a rare insight into how developers approach accessibility and the tools they use. There are sessions regarding screen readers, and a visually impaired screen reader user and web developer will be speaking. From the point of view of most of us, these sessions might give us tips on how we can better communicate our needs to not only those who develop for WP but for any site. This event is free and open to everyone, no registration required, just drop in as you like.
Here’s the link to the full schedule: https://wpaccessibilityday.org/

IMO, an easier way is to tab to a name split button and press spacebar. now you should be returned to the list of files in reverse order.

You pulled the drive before the copying was done, or the drive is defective would be my top two guesses.

The other thing that I was thinking, are these files being copied from dropbox? If so, sometimes there is a dialog box that opens to ask you if you want to copy the files without their properties. If you don’t know this is open it will copy the folders but not the files. Just a suggestion. If you need any help, reply

Are you using the built-in security app so come on those little drives? If I was you I would do a full format on the drive then copy the files. If it’s not the little security app on the drive. I’ve never seen this before and I don’t know what you can do.

Hi Stanley.
Go where the files are. Don’t select any of them. Press the applications key, or if you don’t have that, SHIFT+F10 should work. Go down to SORT, hit RIGHT ARROW to open this menu, then hit UP ARROW until you get to ascending. Hit ENTER, and your files will be in alphabetical order.
Hope this helps.

List Rules - Thu, 10/01/2020
#cal-notice
main@jfw.groups.io Calendar <noreply@...>
List Rules When: Description: http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies
**List Policies** 1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated. 2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes. 3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject. 4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind. 5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration. 6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently. As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io James,

Just as with Dropbox, once you signed into OneDrive with your Microsoft account allyou have do do is make sure all the files you want to sync are inside the OneDrive folder. You do have to check OneDrive settings as by default it may keep content more in the cloud, but you can choose for everything to download so that a local copy is on your device.

I would like to start using Microsoft OneDrive so I can have the same files on my desktop computer and ElBraille computer. Does anyone know where I can find tips on using OneDrive, or a tutorial?
I would like my files to be kept locally on each computer and constantly synchronized with OneDrive. That way I could work on a file even if the internet is not available and it would synchronize and update when the internet became available.
Thank you for your help.

Steve Matzura
Oh, this is an old nemesis. Sometimes Windows does weird weird things with focus. Another one you'll find is that if you're playing a real track, not a stream, and you attempt to use the script commands to have JAWS speak time elapsed or time remaining, JAWS will say "Alt Shift T" and "Control Shift T" respectively. For best results, close all other windows but Winamp, or deal with the abberrant behavior which has been going on forever. I don't understand it, and frankly, I don't know anyone else who does.

Would anyone know how to do a message rule?
Ron Kolesar
Hello to all.
Would appreciate it if anyone would know how to create a message rule, to ship that knowledge my way please. In WLM, it was oh so easy. You had four columns from left to right. The first column I always down arrowed until I saw Where To or CC contains people. I always made sure that one was checked. I think I'm stuck on step two within Outlook's message rules instructions. If anyone could show me via keyboard commands the following: 1. where the name of the rule goes. 2. Where the e-mail address for that rule goes. 3. How to make sure the mail has a audio sound and goes into the correct mailbox. Many thanks. Hi again.
I’m usually not a violent person, but JAWS had be on the lookout tonight. Randy, you were right. I got the app from the Amazon site. I don’t have older versions of JAWS, but your thinking made me try Narrator on the problem. It worked great, and I now have Kindle up and running. Now I just need to try it out.
Thanks again for the help.

Did you download it from the Microsoft store or from Amazon? Sometimes universal apps i.e. MS store dont work with jaws or other screenreaders for that matter. Try useing an earlier version of Jaws to see if it is Jaws 2020 or Kindle. On 9/29/2020 5:40 PM, Kevin Minor wrote:
