Cohn, Jonathan

Documents can be multilingual. So the dictionary and speech output can change within each document. So, first go into your Outlook/Word settings and make sure your default language is US/Canadian. But then if you are replying to a message from somebody in USA it could probably be switched back to US.
In JAWS there is a setting to not only switch synthesizers on language but on dialect. If you click this, then JAWS should speak differently for US English and UK English and Indian English. I am not sure if there are any speech synthesizers for Canadian  dialects. So perhaps my suggestions of toggle that JAWS setting won't help you to recognize you have switched dialects.

Hi Jim,
This isn't a strange issue to me. I had an old Laptop that was about 3
years old and it would run for awhile and then overheat and shut off.
How old is your laptop?

Like all X-Key+Y-Key commands, the presses must be together.  That being said, you can press X-Key, keep it held, and hit Y-Key, and that will execute the action.

That's the whole purpose of the plus designation.  In sequential presses, e.g., WinKey+X,E to open File Explorer, the comma us used to specify the next press in the sequence.  In this case, you must hold down WinKey and while its held down, hit X, then release those and hit E.

Hi All,

Below is the download link for both the 32 and 64 bit versions, a link to the Beta report form and what's new in this release.

32 and 64 Bit Download Link:

Beta Report Form Link:

Enhancements in JAWS, ZoomText, and Fusion 2021 Public Beta 2

The following is a list of improvements made between Public Beta 1 and Public Beta 2. Note that while many customer-reported enhancements are included
in this release, the following is a list of more notable changes.

Automatic Message Reading in Outlook 365

When you open a message from the Inbox in Outlook 365, JAWS and Fusion will now immediately begin reading the message contents without reading the title
or header information. Currently, messages are not automatically read if you ALT+TAB to an open message, or you press ENTER on a message in the Inbox that
is already open.

To further customize how messages are read, open Quick Settings (INSERT+V) while in Outlook, search for "message," and configure any of the resulting options.
A few items you might want to change include:

list of 3 items
• Message Header Field with Message Announcement: Turn this option on if you want JAWS and Fusion to announce the sender's email address and the subject
of the message when a message opens or gains focus.
• Messages Automatically Read: Turn this option off if you do not want JAWS and Fusion to automatically read messages when they are opened.
• Speak Window Titles For Read-only Messages Automatically: Turn this option on if you want JAWS and Fusion to announce the title of the message window
when a message opens or gains focus.
list end

Enhancements in JAWS 2021 Public Beta 2
list of 13 items
• Added a new Settings Center and Quick Settings option called "Pan Text by Paragraph" which is off by default. When enabled, JAWS sends an entire paragraph
to the braille display instead of only the current line as you navigate web pages and documents. This can help improve the flow of reading when panning
through text as you are less likely to encounter large amounts of empty space on the display when you reach the end of a line. You should now only encounter
blank space if you reach the end of a paragraph, and you would move to the start of the next paragraph when panning again.
• While in a Zoom meeting, you can now press CTRL+SHIFT+T to find out who is currently talking. Zoom recently added this option with CTRL+2 but we were
previously using it for a JAWS feature.
• When using the Voice Assistant in JAWS, you can now quickly specify whether or not JAWS listens for the wake word by pressing INSERT+ALT+SPACEBAR twice
quickly. Whether the wake word is on or off, you can always press this keystroke one time to have JAWS start listening for a voice command.
• In the Sound Control Panel applet, resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not reading as expected in the list views on the Playback and Recording pages.
• Addressed a reported issue where the JAWS settings Import/Export feature was not working as expected when using Windows folder redirection.
• The default graphics verbosity for JAWS is now to read only labeled graphics as it is no longer as important for JAWS to read graphics that are not labeled.
If you encounter a situation where you need to read unlabeled graphics, or you do not want to hear graphics at all, open Settings Center and search for
Graphics Verbosity.
• JAWS no longer automatically disables the "Show animations in windows" setting while running.
• Added five new Japanese voices to the Add/Remove Voices utility, which allows you to sample and download Vocalizer Expressive 2 voices for use with JAWS,
ZoomText, and Fusion.
• When using CTRL+DELETE or CTRL+BACKSPACE to delete by word in Office 365, resolved an issue where JAWS was too verbose.
• Resolved a reported issue with Windows 10 Insider Builds where Outlook becomes unusable with JAWS after leaving your system idle for a long period of
time.
• Resolved an issue where a user had over 200 entries in a JKM (Keyboard Manager) file, causing some commands to not work as expected. We now have extended
the number allowed.
• Fusion and JAWS 2021 will now interrupt reading when you press the WINDOWS Key to open the Start Menu.
• Resolved an issue with navigating to the configuration editor in Thunderbird Email when running JAWS or Fusion.
list end

Enhancements in ZoomText 2021 and Fusion 2021 Public Beta 2
list of 4 items
• When installing ZoomText 2021 or Fusion 2021, you can now migrate your settings from an older ZoomText or Fusion release (for example, releases 2020
or 2019) to the latest ZoomText 2021 release. This includes features such as magnification level, color, pointer, cursor, and mouse enhancements, and any
custom settings you created for applications.
• Resolved a ZoomText tracking issue in InfoConnect. This is an application used by IRS employees.
• Resolved several issues in Outlook 2016 and Outlook 365:
list of 4 items nesting level 1
◦ Focus enhancements and tracking now work correctly in the Select Names: Contacts dialog.
◦ The cursor enhancement is no longer visible while selecting text in a message.
◦ The cursor enhancement is now visible when you navigate to a link in a message.
◦ Addressed other focus enhancements issues when navigating various panes in Outlook 2016.
list end nesting level 1
• Voice Assistant can now be enabled or disabled using the Voice Assistant check box in the Startup Wizard.
list end

I think what you want is under Options. Alt F, then t to open the options dialog. Arrow down to the language group then tab to a combo box that lists language options.

Subject: Office/Outlook spell check question

Hi all,
I'm not sure if this is something that can just be fixed for Outlook, or if it has to be done for all Office programs. I don't even know if it can be fixed period, but I hope that it can. Anyway, I'm running Windows 10, Jaws 18 and Office/Outlook 2013. I have Outlook set to check spelling before sending a message and sometimes I'm told that the dictionary language is English (Canada) and other times it's in English (United States). When you tab to change or ignore the error you go past a combo box where you're supposed to be able to change the selected language using the arrow keys, but when I tried to do that (it was on English United States) it just took me back to the inbox. So I'm wondering, is there another way to change the dictionary language? Since I'm Canadian I'd like to have it be set to Canadian English. The main Office program that I use is Outlook so that's the main place where I'd like the dictionary language changed, but if I have to or can change it in Word then that would be nice too!! I hope that this makes sense, and that there's a easy/simple way to change this. Look forward to any help/suggestions that any of you can provide!!
Thanks
Madison

Thanks, Brian.  I suppose that makes sense if they want to be able to place a link to one of the company news stories directly on an email.  It’s a new approach to me and leaves some JAWS verbal clutter, but I supposed I’ll get used to it.

PermaLinks are normally used in circumstances, like online forums, or comments sections in newspapers (or elsewhere), that it would be otherwise impossible to get to that particular bit of content using the URL that's actually in the address bar.

It's a method to allow you to get to something directly that you might otherwise never be easily able to "drill down" and find in the future.  The text itself has never had "PermaLink" shown, in my experience, but you get that notice via hover-over if you're sighted.

All,

Our company just started using SharePoint Online for our company news intranet site.  As I navigate the page, I’m hearing “Perma link” I can actually even navigate this letter by letter,  but am thinking it’s not visually on the page.  Anyone her of this designation and know why this might be used over another method of tagging?

Here is a sample from JAWS speech history.  I had just navigated to a story profiling a coworker. IT first read a heading with the story title, then the following;

Windows Key is the same as the start menu key. It's typically the second key to the right of the spacebar. I press that key, then hit the up arrow once to maximize the open window. So, yes, Chrome needs to be open or the keystroke will maximize whatever other program you are currently on.

Subject: Steps wanted to maximize Chrome browser window

Hello list::

It's my understanding that maximizing the browser window involves pressing Windows key + up arrow, but is my Windows key the same as my menu key (have a bump dot on it) and if yes do these key presses have to be done after opening the browser, and do the keys need to be pressed simultaneously?

Sincerely,

David S. Pearson

Windows Key is the same as the start menu key. It's typically the second key to the right of the spacebar. I press that key, then hit the up arrow once to maximize the open window. So, yes, Chrome needs to be open or the keystroke will maximize whatever other program you are currently on.

On any Windows based system I've every touched the Windows Key is on the lowest row of keys, on the left, and very often the third key in (after a CTRL and FN key).

Any command for the browser must be done after the browser is open and its window has focus.  And WinKey+Up Arrow does maximize the window.

This is not, however, a browser specific command, but a Windows command.  Any window that happens to have focus will be maximized if you hit WinKey+Up Arrow, and will be restored down (not minimized to the system tray) if you hit WinKey+Down Arrow.

Kevin,

Did you end up resolving the Amazon return issue?  I just did an Amazon return, but I selected the option to return the item to Kohl’s.  Amazon sent me an email with the QR code in it.  The QR code is right below the words “Return Code”, but JAWS did not acknowledge it in any way. I tried moving by graphic with G, but that didn’t work. Arrowing through the lines of the email doesn’t pick it up, but I have enough vision to see it.

When I read the same email on my iPhone. Voiceover does not pick up the image if I flick through the lines, but if I run my finger down the email, I heard Voiceover say “Image” just below the “Return Code” and that is the QR code.   The return person at Kohl’s just needed to enlarge the QR code ,but I did not need to do anything with the QR code myself.

Robin

Subject: Email from Amazon regarding a return

Hello, I’m using windows10, Outlook 2016 and the most recent version of Jaws2020. When an item is returned to Amazon and email is sent with a QR code. Jaws doesn’t recognize the code. In the past I would print out the email and or forward it to my IPhone. This recent return the code doesn’t show up when I print it. Also it doesn’t appear in the email I forwarded to my IPhone. Is there something in Outlook that could be causing the code to disappear? I should say that when I look at the email on my IPhone, it says image removed by sender. I didn’t remove anything. Any thoughts? Cheers, Kevin
