That gets you into full screen mode, which is very different than a standard maximized window.  It's also a toggle, so if you've gone full screen and want to get back to normal you hit F11 again.

Hello list::

It's my understanding that maximizing the browser window involves pressing Windows key + up arrow, but is my Windows key the same as my menu key (have a bump dot on it) and if yes do these key presses have to be done after opening the browser, and do the keys need to be pressed simultaneously?

Windows Key is the same as the start menu key. It's typically the second key to the right of the spacebar. I press that key, then hit the up arrow once to maximize the open window. So, yes, Chrome needs to be open or the keystroke will maximize whatever other program you are currently on.

On any Windows based system I've every touched the Windows Key is on the lowest row of keys, on the left, and very often the third key in (after a CTRL and FN key).

Any command for the browser must be done after the browser is open and its window has focus.  And WinKey+Up Arrow does maximize the window.

This is not, however, a browser specific command, but a Windows command.  Any window that happens to have focus will be maximized if you hit WinKey+Up Arrow, and will be restored down (not minimized to the system tray) if you hit WinKey+Down Arrow.

Kevin,

Did you end up resolving the Amazon return issue?  I just did an Amazon return, but I selected the option to return the item to Kohl’s.  Amazon sent me an email with the QR code in it.  The QR code is right below the words “Return Code”, but JAWS did not acknowledge it in any way. I tried moving by graphic with G, but that didn’t work. Arrowing through the lines of the email doesn’t pick it up, but I have enough vision to see it.

When I read the same email on my iPhone. Voiceover does not pick up the image if I flick through the lines, but if I run my finger down the email, I heard Voiceover say “Image” just below the “Return Code” and that is the QR code.   The return person at Kohl’s just needed to enlarge the QR code ,but I did not need to do anything with the QR code myself.

Hello, I’m using windows10, Outlook 2016 and the most recent version of Jaws2020. When an item is returned to Amazon and email is sent with a QR code. Jaws doesn’t recognize the code. In the past I would print out the email and or forward it to my IPhone. This recent return the code doesn’t show up when I print it. Also it doesn’t appear in the email I forwarded to my IPhone. Is there something in Outlook that could be causing the code to disappear? I should say that when I look at the email on my IPhone, it says image removed by sender. I didn’t remove anything. Any thoughts? Cheers, Kevin

I believe he has a laptop, not a desktop, so no tower to deal with.

It sounds like an overheating issue to me.

Laptops need air flow underneath them as most of the benting is on the bottom.

If it isn’t overheating, then it likely needs   to be gone through by a technician.

I believe I already gave my advice for getting air underneath it, but here goes.

Take 20 to 24 pennies, make 4 stacks of 5 to 6 pennies, wrap them in tape, duct tape works great, so they are even and place them under the four corners of the laptop.

If you have some double sided tape, you can also stick them to the bottom of the laptop so they don’t fall off if you move it.

Inexpensive but effective solution.

It works for my Del laptop.

How long has it been since you’ve done basic maintanednce on your PC? I’m not a computer guru by any means, but they do need cleaned every now and again, I guess/the vents on the tower need vacuumed out for dust. Once again, I’m not a computer person, but it sounds like, to me, that things might be overheating? I don’t know, but I’d try that first/vacuuming out the vents. Other than that, seek information from the rest of the group, okay?

Never has for me except in weird circumstances/occasions possibly, wehre the behaviour would stand out as abnormal 9as it’s not what I generally experience at all).

Not sure if the script is advanced enough to detect whether a secondary soundcard is in use. I would think not. I personally have never had one (everything comes from my onboard audio at this point; from various Creative Labs cards in the past)…

I’m not complaining; I actually like this behaviour, just interesting that our experiences are apparently quite different.

I’m actaully wondering now if this has something to do with the position or size of the winamp window. Perhaps if the window is minimised, it has another way of conveying track information that is automatically spoken by jaws?

Because the way it’s acting fo rme now, not speaking, seems like normal behaviour.

So you mean, JAWS speaks this info as soon as you hit z, b, or whatever?

I don’t think it’s ever really done that for me.

Which I mostly like – if I’m listening to music, dj-ing or whatever,  I don’t generally want JAWS to be speaking

Too. I was considering a second sound device so I could have audio players/software and screen-readers on totally separate systems but now that I mostly use braille, I’m not too bothered.

For feedback from winamp , usually if you just return to its window it will tell you its title. You can also get this by hitting insert-t, which reads the title bar that displays track name and artist.

If you want this info automatically spoken when you hit one of the bottom-letter-row control keys for the player – I’m not really sure what to tell you. It seems to me like not speaking that info is the norm and the other way would be the aberration, but that seems to be what you prefer and I don’t know what occasionally causes JAWS to speak that info after a keypress or how you can ensure that it continues to do so always.

Hi. I'm using Winamp version 5.66 with JAWS 2020. Occasionally, winamp will stop giving me the track number, title, and artist as I use the B command for next track, or the Z command for previous track. Once this happens, I have tried many things including,

1. Rebooting the computer.

2. Reinstalling Winamp.

3. Restarting JAWS.

4. Repairing JAWS.

Sometimes, for no apparent reason, Winamp, after exhibiting this behavior will suddenly begin voicing track number, title, and artist again.

Have other people experienced this behavior with Winamp, JAWS and Windows 10? If so, have you found any way to get JAWS to begin voicing track number, title, and artist again when it stops doing so?

Thank you.

I’m actaully wondering now if this has something to do with the position or size of the winamp window. Perhaps if the window is minimised, it has another way of conveying track information that is automatically spoken by jaws?

Because the way it’s acting fo rme now, not speaking, seems like normal behaviour.

Hi, Marty. Yes, I'm in the play list editor page, and the tracks actually do change, and the new song begins playing when I press B or Z, JAWS just doesn't voice the title when the track changes.

Have you made sure that you are in the play list editor page when you hit B or Z?  Control Tab will get you there.

Thank you.

Mr. Kennedy is correct that no matter how many times you subscribe using the same e-mail address you are simply subscribed.  If you were to send 10 subscribe requests you won't get 10 copies of every message, because accounts are based on an e-mail address used when subscribing, and those accounts are unique.

There are plenty of instances where Groups.io, or any e-mail list service, or any individual e-mail user, may end up waiting a long time for a given message to make it anywhere, because all it takes is one "constipated server" in the bucket brigade to cause whatever lands on it to stay there until the issue is fixed.  The list server software itself can also encounter issues.

Waiting it out for a reasonable period of time, which is many hours to a day, is the way to go before starting to check on whether things are OK, and if they're not sending messages to any group will prove nothing, as they will be held.  Send a message to support@groups.io, and only after at least 12 hours have passed, if not more.  These kinds of "burps" simply happen, and do tend to get fixed by the powers that be.

When I press B or Z, I get track and artist, not track number.  I think that it has a lot to do with how you have your tracks labeled or the metadata that is associated with each track.  I am using the latest JAWS with Windows 7 and the Winamp 5.66 or the last available version and have not experienced what you describe here.  Is Winamp maximized every time?  Does this happen with all playlists?
