Sadly, they never followed through with incorporating those features.  The Safe Mode speech with Window-Eyes worked quite well.

moderated Need help choosing printer/scanner

Shirley Tracy

Good morning list,

My printer has finally given up. Can anyone please give me a suggestion of an easy-to-use  printer and scanner that works well with JAWS? I also need one that will work well with Open Book—although I don’t normally scan large batches and don’t need one that has that ability. I’m using a DEL Computer with JAWS 2020, latest update, and Windows 10. My computer doesn’t have BlueTooth, so I don’t need that in a printer.

Thankfully, I know someone who is willing to install it for me. I do well to use it, much less understand how it works or how to set it up. 😒

Thanks for any help.

Is there a command or script that would make JAWS describe the contents
of a region?  For example, it might say that the main region has 3
headings, 4 lists, 10 links, and so on. It could save time from figuring
it out more manually.

Knowing how Apple is about their stuff, could it be that they won’t work with FS to create JAWS scripts for iCloud or iTunes?  These are 2 pretty big main stream programs, and it is a little surprising at the lack of outcry for better accessibility.  I can get iTunes to work, although it is clunky, but iCloud is useless to me.

When quick keys is enabled in JAWS you can press S to move to the next section and shift-s to move to the previous section.

Pressing insert-z toggles Quick Keys on and off.

First, the symbol marking a new section is ^k. Type these two characters into an MS Word search ()control-f), not a JAWS search (JAWS key-control-f) and press enter. You should be taken to the beginning of a new section. For the record, I haven't tried it because I don't divide documents this way.

Second, there may be another symbol to use when you go into quick navigation mode with JAWS key-z. In this mode, pressing h will take you to the next heading, etc. I haven't looked into whether there's such a symbol for sections.

Hi, Everyone.
Using JFW2018 and Word2016 with Win10. I have a large document with multiple sections that I need to look through. When I do an Ins+F1 JFW tells me what section I'm on and describes its margins; it also tells me how many sections my document has. But it seems there is no keystroke to move between sections. Is that right?

It sounds like you somehow got to the ad-ons page.  You should be able to hit ctrl-l and type in whatever url you want to go to.  The only real setup is whether you want to set as default and turn on rewards.  That is what first came up when i installed it, and I just hit close.  If you want to import bookmarks or do any of that stuff, it should be in the menus.

That is truely horrible. Can I share with the accessibility community? To try and resolve, try changing the click behaviour for that web page. Look for the word simulate in quick settings and find the setting for that site (the results should show up twice, once for general and once for specific site) and then toggle the setting.

Hello,

Has anyone used icloud.com? To me it doesn’t seem to friendly. I know it has pictures and videos from my IPhone. I just cannot access them.

Thanks,

Kevin

IME, if you open Chrome's downloads with control+j if it isn't open already,
arrow down and you'll find a "keep" link or button. press space bar on it to
complete the download, or just use Firefox to avoid having to do this.

Subject: Problem downloading August version of Jaws Hello, I'm using
windows10 and Google chrome. I have tried numerous times to download the
most recent version of Jaws and never completes. I go to the site to
download it. The site never gives me an error message.
I then press alt F4 and get a new screen stating the download is in
progress. I arrow through the screen and there is a message saying "This
file cannot be downloaded securely." I have the option to discard or keep.
Has anyone have this problem?

Thanks,

Kevin

Thorium.com offers download of an e-book reader that I have found to be highly accessible with Jaws 2020 – after some initially frustrating orientation. Learning how and when to open the “Navigation” menu is trial and error at first. I learned about the Thorium reader from this list.

Reading a book with Kindle (or Thorium) try clicking on the chapter number/title when you are in the table of contents in order to go to the chapter text. I have found that I sometimes have to go to the table of contents, click a chapter I want to read, read the chapter, return to the table of contents, and click another chapter in order to keep reading.
