Hi David,

What do you want Jaws to say instead of the word, com?  Or, do you just want to remove this word, com , from the dictionary?
I'm not trying to be a smart-ass, but in order to give you exact steps I need to know the particulars.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.  Go dodgers!

So, if you convert an audio file to a video, what does it show onscreen on Youtube? I am just curious, because I am interested in making Youtube videos without showing myself on camera.

Hi,

There is a free program from NCH Software,

called Switch Sound Converter. It can convert mp3 to .mov.

Supported YouTube file formats
Note: Audio files, like MP3, WAV, or PCM files, can’t be uploaded to YouTube. You can use video editing software to convert your audio file to a video.
If you're not sure which format to save your video as or are getting an "invalid file format" error message when you're uploading, make sure that you’re using one of the following formats:

.MOV

.MPEG4

.MP4

.AVI

.WMV

.MPEGPS

.FLV

3GPP

WebM

DNxHR

ProRes

CineForm

HEVC (h265)

Have you tried windows photo app?

I just tried it so it should do what you need, which is to create a new video and add your podcast as the background music.

Hi, everyone!

I hope all are doing well and staying safe! I have a couple of questions.

1. How accessible are the apps that can be gotten from the Microsoft store?

2. If so, has anyone gotten any games from there? I ask this because I miss playing some of the games from both Windows XP and Vista. For instance, I would like to get the Pinball game that was on XP, and the game Purble Place from Vista. I’m also looking for any accessible Solitaire games.

Sincerely,

Jasmine

David,

Mike wasn’t suggesting you speak German. When you tab to the field he indicated, he was saying you’ll recognize it by the first spoken line. On his system, it’s German. On mine, it’s French. On your system, it’s likely to be one language or another.

You can arrow down this list or, as Mario noted, use first-letter navigation. After you get past the languages, you’ll arrive at your list of dictionary entries.

I just tried using a period as a first letter to find your term, but it seems I have nothing in my list that begins with that particular punctuation. So, you’ll need to arrow down until you find it. My guess is that it’s near the beginning of the list after you get past the languages, or else it’s near the end. You can go right to the end by pressing the end key.

Les,

Outstanding. Glad you figured it out. Just out of curiosity, where did you locate the setting that had all PDF files opening in Edge?

Hi Alan,

I wound up solving the problem. I was able to locate the setting that had all pdf files opening in Edge. I was able to change it to Adobe Acrobat. Now, in the testing I did after doing this, all the pdf’s we tried now open in Acrobat. Thanks for the assist. I had installed the Dropbox app as it turns out. What a relief!

Best,

Les

Hi Les,

I believe the lady you're assisting needs to install the Dropbox client on her computer. This will install the Dropbox folders containing all of her Dropbox data currently in the cloud provided she signs into it with the same Dropbox account. I would expect that if she executes a pdf file from its local computer location, Adobe Acrobat should open with that file based on how you set the default file program. You can download the Dropbox client here:

Hi All,

I am assisting a lady with Dropbox. Her life partner set up all of her files in the cloud, but not on her machine. He recently died, and she does not know how to use Dropbox to change its behavior.  when she accesses a .pdf file, of which she has many, it downloads and opens in Edge. I downloaded Adobe Acrobat on to her machine and chose to use Adobe as the default when opening .pdf files, but they always open in Edge. I’m guessing this is because they are always downloading from the cloud. I wish to have her files stored on her machine. As I use OneDrive, I’m not familiar with how to accomplish this task. Any assistance will be appreciated.

Best,

Hi Alan,

See if the notes below will help:

Instructions For Choosing Default Reader For PDF Files
1.  Find a PDF file on the system.

2.  Press alt+enter for properties.

3.  Now shift+tab to the Change button and press it.  You will be  asked what program you want to use to open PDF files.  Tab and there will be a list
of proposed programs.

4.  Once you are on your preferred program, select it and you should be good to go.

Zoom definitely has some accessibility issues with the chat window.

They do know about it and were working on it, but I believe it is time again to remind them to check with regard to there status.

Hello All:

I am taking part in a church class via Zoom.  I know how to join the meeting and how to mute and unmute my microphone and I have learned the various keystrokes, but I am having a problem when it comes to chatting in a Zoom meeting.  I talked to the host about it, and she was just as surprised as I was, and what both she and I are curious about is whether it is a JAWS or a Zoom problem.

After I open up the chat window and then tab to the list of people available to chat with the first option there is is to chat with everyone.  When I hit the down arrow key it gives the host’s name.  When I hit it again it goes back to Everyone and after I hit it again it says the host’s name, etc., etc.  It does not give the list of everyone in the meeting, so there is no way I can send a private message to the person I would like to send one to.  The host and I can’t figure out why this is so.  Is this a JAWS gliche or is it a problem with Zoom?

Just for your information, there is a setting on the host side that disables private chat. I’m not sure what that setting is set to. Just thought you’d like to know

Hi David,

Thanks. Great information. You will see my reply to Alan’s message. It’s interesting as now, when the files open in Acrobat, they are not being downloaded as before. So we are good for now!

Best,

Les

There are a few ways of achieving what you want.

The most important thing is to make sure you have the DropBox Desktop installed as this is not entirely clear from your email.

Depending on how much is in the Cloud and how large her hard disc is the easiest way may be to turn off Smart sync in settings and specify all the folders you want to have definitely available locally to to the lady you are helping.

Another approach is to allow smart sync to continue but to them simply go the the relevant folder and bring up the context menu and find the dropbox options - here you can specify the options for that folder - the options are local and online. This is very similar to the ONeDrive option to “always keep on device” option.

You of course need to set the folders or files to local to avoid the need to download them. It will take a few minutes to download and catchup.

I am not on a Windows machine at the moment so I cannot give stop by step but if you bring up the context menu in file explorer on your DropBox synched folders you should be able to find the options for local or offline.
