Re: Deleting browsing data in Google Chrome
Adrian Spratt
Paul, Thank you for this tip. I downloaded the file and experimented.
I noted in one case where I thought I’d delete a program, it offered, instead, to update it. No removal option. I went through the update process and decided not to remove for now. In another instance, it did remove an unwanted program.
Query: the Geek.exe file doesn’t create a recognized program or a desktop icon, or did I miss a step?

Hi,
I hope this isn’t straying off topic, but Brian recommended uninstalling using Revo Uninstaller. I agree with him , whenever I uninstall anything from my PC I always use a third party uninstaller to ensure it removes all traces of the program as the windows installer often leaves behind a lot of unneeded files. I personally use Geek uninstaller (which is free). I’ve used Revo Uninstaller in the past, and although it was accessible I found it wasn’t the easiest to navigate with a screen reader, which is why I use geek, it works well with jaws and is really simple to use, when it opens you are in an edit field where you can type the name of the program you want to uninstall or press escape for a full list of programs currently installed on your machine. I do have to confess though I haven’t used Revo Uninstaller for a long time, so it’s possible they might have improved accessibility since I last used it.

I've never had this happen with the Google Chrome browser, nor seen it reported elsewhere. If you've done a complete uninstall and reinstall, and that has not fixed the issue, the only thing I could recommend is using
something like Revo Uninstaller, after having done the regular uninstall for Chrome, then trying to install again. Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Using Jaws (latest version) E-trade's site is pretty accessible.?? e-trade's customer service stinks however!?? Your hold time on the phone is excessive.?? I use Jaws and from time to time want to get stock quotes.?? The phone system bounces between voice commands and touch tone.?? You have to guess.?? Stock quotes are also delayed.?? I e-mailled them 6 times about this issue alone and wrote print letters to them 3 times....no response and they never fixed the problem.?? E-trade was sued by the blind years ago for failing to make things accessible to the blind, but apparently they don't care.?? This is just part of the reason why I moved my account to Fidelity....much, much much better!!!
I am Listening for the Shout!, (1 Thessalonians 4:17-18) George Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Dr. James Dobson told this true story about a missionary in the jungle. One day the missionary entered his hut, and a gigantic snake, one of those that can swallow a whole pig, was inside. He went out to his truck and got his revolver. He only had one shell. He went in and carefully aimed at the head of that monstrous snake and pulled the trigger. The snake was mortally wounded, but he didn???t die right away. He began to writhe and thrash around, his tail going this way and that! He literally tore up everything in that hut as he was dying. Jesus at Calvary put a bullet right in Satan???s head. List Rules - Tue, 09/01/2020
#cal-notice
main@jfw.groups.io Calendar <noreply@...>
List Rules When: Description: http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies
**List Policies** 1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated. 2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes. 3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject. 4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind. 5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration. 6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently. As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io James,

Re: Assigning symbol short cut key in Word
Something else is using what are commonly called ALT codes, and they can be very handy for certain "odd symbols" that you use frequently, though it does require using the number pad as the numeric entry.
See: https://fsymbols.com/keyboard/windows/alt-codes/list/ (I do not know whether this page is accessible as far as what will be read for the table, as it shows the digit(s) you need to type while ALT is held down, using the number pad, next to the actual symbol it would produce. There are scads of these and even I don't know how each one of those characters would be announced. But, for one example, if you are in MS-Word and want to insert the degree symbol, make sure that you're in the position where you want it and that number lock for the number pad is ON before you start the sequence - hold down ALT and while doing so enter 0176 on the number pad. Lol…yeah, meanwhile it seems like most NVDA users don’t have these problems..I wonder why that is? Coincidence? Like I said though, Firefox 8 seems stable at the moment on my desktop here, which at least is running JAWS still half the time or more (it’s an older version, too…)

Hi,
I spoke with someone at Freedom Scientific (or whatever they call it now) and she said they are well aware of Firefox crashing. She didn’t go into details but I gathered they don’t think it is a JAWS problem but rather something with Firefox. But again, she didn’t say that in so many words.

Recently someone else on this list reported crashes with Mozilla Firefox. At the time I didn't know what to think about the problem but I am now encountering this and I noticed it after Firefox updated to version 80. After a short period of time of just navigating through a Web page Firefox reports that the tab has crashed and presents me with a button to restore the tab. These crashes are rather frequent. I only have one extension running which is for Cisco Webex and I have disabled this extension to see if this makes a difference. I'm not entirely sure it's just a JAWS issue as I encountered this crash when testing with NVDA although I so far haven't tried Firefox 80 with NVDA long enough to determine if the crashing is happening as frequently. Have others noticed this and is there a workaround for this?
