Gerald why the hell you got to be so damn negative? Marko Z is
still fighting along with James Teh formily of NV Access. FF is
still very much accessible. Its our chose what browser we use. I
like both FF and Edge. Edge is a speed demon as far as loading
pages. I know FF has had issues with JFW. If you'd like, but I
doubt you will take your issues up with the FF DEVS at Mozilla.

Yes, there is a work around. It's called Google Chrome. To be perfectly blunt, I don't understand why anyone still bothers with Firefox. It is a screwed up mess, constantly crashes, and seems to become less accessible with each successive release. And most blind-friendly extensions like Webvisum and Navigational Sounds no longer work. Mozilla betrayed its blind users by promising a new era in accessibility when they hired one of the developers of NVDA four years ago, but this has not materialized. Whatever happened to this guy? Is he still with Mozilla? Or did he get laid off along with 250 other employees?

JAWS 2020 August Release: Frequent Crashes With Firefox 80
David Goldfield <david.goldfield@...>
Using Win10 version 1909, JAWS 2020 for August and Firefox 80.
Recently someone else on this list reported crashes with Mozilla Firefox. At the time I didn't know what to think about the problem but I am now encountering this and I noticed it after Firefox updated to version 80. After a short period of time of just navigating through a Web page Firefox reports that the tab has crashed and presents me with a button to restore the tab. These crashes are rather frequent. I only have one extension running which is for Cisco Webex and I have disabled this extension to see if this makes a difference. I'm not entirely sure it's just a JAWS issue as I encountered this crash when testing with NVDA although I so far haven't tried Firefox 80 with NVDA long enough to determine if the crashing is happening as frequently. Have others noticed this and is there a workaround for this? -- David Goldfield, Assistive Technology Specialist JAWS Certified, 2019 www.davidgoldfield.org

Re: Deleting browsing data in Google Chrome
I've never had this happen with the Google Chrome browser, nor seen it reported elsewhere. If you've done a complete uninstall and reinstall, and that has not fixed the issue, the only thing I could recommend is using something like Revo Uninstaller, after having done the regular uninstall for Chrome, then trying to install again.
These days, there are so many Chromium-based browsers that if you like Chrome you can transition to virtually any of them without even noticing you have. New Edge and Brave are both good options, and there are others. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 2004, Build 19041 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Re: Investing Sites or Firms that Work Well with JAWS
Adrian Spratt
I endorse George’s recommendation of Schwab. Some years ago, they did considerable work on accessibility with me and another JAWS user, and they remain responsive. Another JAWS user is an advocate of Fidelity. As a broker himself, he has some influence over Fidelity’s practices. You may know that e-Trade is in the process of being purchased by Morgan Stanley. I’m not sure how much priority accessibility will receive during a pending acquisition. I’ve had accessibility issues with Vanguard in the past, but I haven’t been on that website for a long time.

Can anyone recommend online investing sites that work well with JAWS?
I am considering Fidelity, Vanguard and E-trade, but I am open to other similar sites. I am looking to invest in mutual funds for my IRA.
Thank you for any information.

I’ve been a long-time investor with Fidelity. You can use their web site as it is accessible. I really like their app for the iPhone. It’s excellent. I am able to buy and sell mutual funds or, on occasion, individual stocks. Let me know if you have further questions. Best Regards,
Les

Deleting browsing data in Google Chrome
kevin meyers
Hello,
I have to delete the browsing data in Google Chrome 3-4 times a week. Is there a reason I need to clear it out that often? Is it possible to set it up to clear it outevery few days?
Also I use the Chrome short cut on my desktop. I press enter and I’m taken to the window and a few seconds later I’m taken back to the desktop and I’m on the short cut for Chrome. Then I press alt tab until I get to the Chrome window. When I get there, the cursor is not on the search bar. I have to tab backward or forward to locate it. Is there a reason this happens? I have uninstalled Chrome and reinstalled and the problem doesn’t go away. Is there something I can do to stop this from happening?
This did happen in the past. It stopped for a while and then came back.
Cheers,
Kevin

Please disregard my last message in which I said to TAB to the single click and press ENTER. This no longer seems to be available in notifications. The only workaround for this I see is to make sure you have notifications set to stay around for 30 seconds or so, and to click the notification with SHIFT plus Winkey plus V, then ENTER on the notification. Re: Office365: Word
Van Lant, Robin
I’m not sure if this will help, but want to offer out a thing to play with. First, press just the alt key to get focus to the ribbon, then hit the application key or Shift F10 to open the context menu. I see two menu options, The first is to customize the ribbon. The second says “Collapse the ribbon”. If “Collapse the Ribbon” is checked, uncheck it. Sighted people will often use this to free up visual real estate on the screen, but what it does for us is requires that after hitting say, Alt H, to get to the home ribbon, you then have to hit down arrow once to open that lower ribbon before you can tab to the options.

Hi,
Has anyone encountered the situation where the menu bar opens with JAWS annunciating menu has pop up; but when you hit enter or spacebar nothing happens. It is driving me nuts. Re: dropbox.com webpage
In addition to Mr. Griffith's mentioning of Windows Key+B to throw focus into the notification area (often referred to as the system tray or task tray) section of the taskbar, Microsoft is one of the best companies I know of when it comes to documenting keyboard shortcuts and making finding what you need easy.
