Re: Virtual Cursor Question

Hi again, Tom. Another thing to try is this.
1. Start either Google Chrome or Firefox. 2. Press INSERT plus six on the numbers row to bring up Settings Center. 3. In the search box type the word use 4. One of the options that may result is Use Virtual PC Cursor. 5. Make sure this is checked. 6. When closing Settings Center, save the configuration file. It will prompt you if you wish to do this.
This should keep the Virtual Cursor on each time you start either Chrome or Firefox.

Yes. Instead of pressing INSERT plus Z in the browser while the cursor is off, try pressing the same keystroke twice quickly. It should say Virtual cursor will be turned on for all applications.

Hello, everyone.
Ever since I went into Jaws settings, and set Jaws to “Full content using on screen highlight” in both Firefox and Google Chrome, I now need to manually turn on my virtual cursor every time I open up a web site in either browser.
Is there a way I can avoid this extra step??
If not, I may set things back to the virtual cursor option.

I can agree with this.
I too have a huge time getting around out on face book via both JAWS and or
NVDA.
Even though my brother who’s also a jaws user, has a better time out on
face book than I do.
I’ve been thinking of pulling my face book account down, since I don’t use
it all that much.
But, if I can get some advice from a fellow JAWS user to make it more
accessible, than I’ll probably use it more often.
Just my two cents on this topic.

Hi, Tom. No. Virtual Cursor should be turned on in these programs anyway. Even if it weren't, you'd need to perform the same keystroke in these other programs to change anything with them.

Hi Ray & Sharon,
I wonder if this could possibly be a soundcard issue.
Try the following and see if this settings change helps or not.
1. Press, Insert + 6, on the the number row to open the
Settings Center, now press, Control, Shift + D, to open the Settings Center
default all applications.
2. Down arrow to, Users, and right arrow to open.
3, Down arrow several times to, Avoid speech cut off when
using Bluetooth headphones or some soundcards, if this is unchecked press the
spacebar to check it, tab to, apply, press the spacebar, tab to, okay, and press
enter to save / close.
See if this helps and if it doesn't a call to Freedom
Scientific / Vispero tech support might be in order.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. Go dodgers!

I was having no problems with JAWS at all on my new laptop with 16 GB of RAM until I started using Outlook. Now every once in a while when arrowing through the list of emails in the inbox, JAWS will stop talking and I have to restart it. This doesn’t happen often, maybe a couple times a week, and I am in Outlook all of the time.

Pressing enter after hitting insert V didn’t do anything for me. However, in line with Mike’s later suggestion, I made sure the virtual cursor was turned on via insert Z, and that gave me the “Full content using on screen highlight” option.

Mike and all:
I was able to follow your instructions for specifying how to copy content from web pages in Firefox, but could not find the virtual cursor options in the Jaws quick settings to make the change in Google Chrome.
Here are the steps I used, as copied from yesterday’s e-mails:
1. Open your web browser of choice.
2. Press, Insert + V, to open Jaws Quick Settings.
3. Press the down arrow key to find the option for select and copy. This is found under the virtual cursor options.
4. When you find the select and copy option, you can press the tab key to move to the help window. Use the say all command to read the help
5. Use, Shift + Tab, to move back to the tree view. Press the space bar to toggle the Select and Copy options. Your options are, From virtual cursor,
6. Tab to, Okay, press enter to save and close.
Can anyone tell me why the virtual cursor options don’t seem to be available in Google Chrome?
I’m using the latest build of Jaws 2020 on a Dell Windows 10 laptop here.
Thanks!

Hi Sharon,
When making this settings change in a browser and using the Jaws quick settings feature, this should only effect the way text is copied while on the internet using this particular browser. Each browser needs to be set-up individually using the same steps.
Making this settings change in a browser shouldn't change the way text is copied from a program like Word, but should only effect the way text is pasted into a program like Word since only the text is copied and then pasted.
Whenever you use the Jaws quick settings feature, Insert + V, while in any application this settings change is application specific to only this application and should not effect any others.
----- Original Message ----- From: Sharon Sent: Sunday, August 23, 2020 7:25 PM Subject: Re: Copy From Web page
It’s interesting. I went into google and changed to virtual view. Now all of a sudden, all my issues with copying, cutting, and deleting text in a web browser and in Word went away. This setting seems to work on all programs; is this correct? I’m using Jaws 2020 and Windows 10 latest update.
Using Jaws 2018, copy, cut, and delete seemed to work, without my changing any setting. But in 2020 the other setting does not work at all, but virtual viewer does. This seems to have solved many issues with cutting, copying and deleting text. Sharon

I am using Chrome. I see that Facebook has changed. Whenever I find the page of someone I want to add as a friend, I can’t do it anymore. It used to be real easy. Whenever I would find that person’s page I would just arrow down and eventually I would find where it says “Add John Smith as a friend.” I would hit the Enter key, then there would be a notice saying that my request had been sent. Now it’s not like that. Now I don’t know how to add someone. I have tried using both the regular and the mobile Chrome browsers but nothing has worked.
