The App key will also take you to the font menu.

To change font color in Word 2010, press Alt-H then "F" and then "C".
You are then in the "Font" dialogue box and have to navigate around via
"tab", or using arrow keys.

Should be similar in Word 2007. In Word 2003, which if I remember
correctly, has the old menus (not the "Ribbon"), it should be possible
to do something very similar, perhaps with slightly different keyboard
shortcuts.

On a related topic, Word does have a built-in method of tracking
changes, if you want to use it.

The following documentation explains how to use the feature in Word
2007, but it should be similar in Word 2010.

-HA001218690.aspx

changes-and-comments-in-word-2007-RZ010235968.aspx

Hi,

Has anyone done the jaws certification offered by FS? If so, thoughts? If I
read it right, you can take the test as many times as you would like and
once you pass it, then you pay.

Thanks.

If you haven't already done so, you might want to ask the Bookstore or Campus Computer Services if the is an inexpensive "student" version of Microsoft Word, or Office.
Good luck!

Re: JAWS 11 and office.org 3.3

Katherine,

bob Logue posted an informative post about a word processing program called
Jarte that I'll copy below. He posted it in 2010, but several listers have
since written favorably about it. It may well have improved in the
intervening eighteen months. First, however, I urge you to take care not to
be penny foolish. Compared to all your other college expenses, a recognized
word processing application may well give you much greater value than its
cost. I have no experience working with Jarte, so that isn't meant as a
review. I'm only urging you to make sure you've carefully evaluated how
important an updated version of MS Word might be to your education.

Here is Bob's post:

Try Jarte
http://www.jarte.com
Basic version is free. Not sure what paid version has extra. I only have
free version.

Cons of free version, don't know about paid version:

Does not have macros.

Cursor sometimes gets stuck in tables created by other programs in rtf
format. Possible Jaws issue?

Find and replace has limits. For example: Can not find line breaks. Hard
to replace mistaken apostrophes with proper quotes when at beginning of
line.

Find also has trouble finding special characters if looking for a group,
(more than one).

Pros:
Free.

Easy to learn.

Screen reader mode automatically selected when screenreader is detected.

Settings in .ini file.

Bookmarking available for most formats except plane text.

Works with .rtf and .doc files.

Easy spell checker.

visual studio 2008 works well with the scripts FS ships (at least with
jfw 12 and 13), there are scripts available that will also work with
jfw 11 I think. I flat do not like visual studio 2010 and haven't
tried the new betas. For jfw 2010 I believe you are pretty much stuck
using jfw13.

I use both msvc and gcc depending on what I am doing. On windows they are
nearly universal for c++. There are a few others, intel's and borland's
products being the next most popular.

Really, any C++ compiler is going to work as the compiler is just a console
program that accepts a largish number of command switches and other input
and spits out the result file along with any diagnostic messages.

What your question is really asking is about code editors, which are not
the same thing as compilers at all. For that task I use visual studio
almost exclusively, even for code that is going to get fed to gcc.

Sorry. I usually proofread my messages. To use styles, use the keystroke control plus shift plus "S"
I am on a Word 2003 machine now. There, you go into view. Arrow down, and you will see task pane. If it is checked, hit ENTER.
I'll follow-up when I get on a machine with Word 2007 or Word 2010.

I would stay away from Google Chrome Or at least think about this. I had
some program install Google Chrome without my knowing it and when I
uninstalled Chrome it messed up my registry. Hyperlinks didn't work in
Excel, Web links in a Outlook email didn't launch IE. They both gave me the
same error your computer has restrictions on it see your administrator. This
was pretty much a nightmare to finally fix this problem.

I just caught a podcast by Kevin Chow (not 100% certain of spelling)
with an interesting demonstration of Google Docs. He was using NVDA,
but mentioned that Google Docs claims JAWS works with the new Google
Docs. Apparently, however, one needs to use Google Chrome and perhaps
also something called Google Vox (I think).
Clearly, from the demonstration, Google Docs isn't for prime time, but
for those who have to use it, it appears to be useable -- to some extent.
Has anyone had success using Google Docs with JAWS 12 or even the
dreaded JAWS 13?

Re: Stopping Tabs From Being Spoken

Bill White <billwhite92701@...>

Hi, Mike. When I tried using Shift+Control+8 it didn't turn off the announcement of 1 inch etc. What it does do is hide and unhide formatting marks.

To do this in a menu, load Word. Press Alt+O for Formatting. Arrow up to "Reveal Formatting", and press Enter. Tab to the box which says, "Show all formatting marks", and check that box. Then press Escape, and you will be out of the menus and back in the document.

This does the same as Control+Shift+8, but does not turn off the announcement of tab stops.

Thank you.

Hi Nickus,

I'm really sorry, I misrepresented what I am looking for. What I want to do
is stop Jaws from reporting / saying the tab settings while in a Word
document. You know 1.0 inches, 1.5 inches, etc.

I know I can do this in Speech & Sound Schemes or via the keystroke,
Control, Shift, + 8 on the number row or through Quick Settings but, I'm
trying to find out if the tab settings announcement can be turned off by
any other means in the Word program . Thanks much, take care.
Mike

Hi
Go in to the jaws settings center, press k to go down to keyboard and
right arrow to open it, arrow down to manage key labels and press
space bar to enter it, once it entered press t to go down to tab or
arrow down to it, it will say Tab speak, you must press space then it
will say tab mute, then just apply and click ok or exit whatever I
can't exactly remember. Just remember now your tab key won't be spoken
throughout your computer in all applications.

I had a student use JAWS 12 with both Chrome and Internet Explorer with
similar results. While they were able to type in the document, they were not
able to edit the information.
