Hi: How do I assure that the task pane is not showing? Secondly, you ask me, "You are using the e control plus shift plus. Right?" Don't know what that means, is it a key combination? To get into styles, I use alt+o then s. Don't quite understand the short-cut key you are directing me to. Third, how to I set the style wit to 0?

1st, be sure the task pane is not showing. This task pane usually comes up when you had been modifying a style, not when you are simply adding a style. You are using the e control plus shift plus. Right? 2nd, in your Microsoft Word settings, be sure to set the "style wit" to 0. I hope this helps.

Hi, Mike. When I tried using Shift+Control+8 it didn't turn off the announcement of 1 inch etc. What it does do is hide and unhide formatting marks.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
To do this in a menu, load Word. Press Alt+O for Formatting. Arrow up to "Reveal Formatting", and press Enter. Tab to the box which says, "Show all formatting marks", and check that box. Then press Escape, and you will be out of the menus and back in the document. This does the same as Control+Shift+8, but does not turn off the announcement of tab stops. Thank you. According to the Podcast, "Listen and Learn," available on iBlink Radio (for iPhone), the demonstrator reported that Google claims it is accessable with JAWS and VoiceOver.

Chow did a good job, though he was using NVDA. Actually, he was using FireFox and went to docs.google.com The key was to be in "focus" mode, not brows mode. I think "focus" mode for NVDA must be something like forms mode (PC cursor) as opposed to Virtual cursor. Alt plus shift plus grave is supposed to start "screen reader mode." It did not in the demo. Kevin had to tab about 15 times and then hit "screen reader support." I never found this option. Then again, I'm using Internet Explorer. This was apparently a fairly recent demonstration.

I'm really sorry, I misrepresented what I am looking for. What I want to do is stop Jaws from reporting / saying the tab settings while in a Word document. You know 1.0 inches, 1.5 inches, etc. I know I can do this in Speech & Sound Schemes or via the keystroke, Control, Shift, + 8 on the number row or through Quick Settings but, I'm trying to find out if the tab settings announcement can be turned off by any other means in the Word program . Thanks much, take care. Mike

Right, but now I have to remember. Do you think Freedom Scientific deliberately screwed this up, or was it an unintended consequence of some other "fix."

I know JAWS 12 screwed up Excel badly; however, I would cast my vote for JAWS 13 being the all time worst screw up -- at least as far as Word and Outlook are concerned. I remember JAWS 8 being a real mess too, but my experience doesn't go back any earlier than that.
