Jaws accessible compilers in C++

John Martyn

Hi all,
I was wondering what C++ compiler I might use that is compatible with JAWS.
I am starting a project that I need to program an application. I will have
to learn the language, but it helps to have something compatible first.
Thanks,
John Martyn

Re: styles in word

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Sorry. I usually proofread my messages. To use styles, use the keystroke control plus shift plus "S"
I am on a Word 2003 machine now. There, you go into view. Arrow down, and you will see task pane. If it is checked, hit ENTER.
I'll follow-up when I get on a machine with Word 2007 or Word 2010.

Hi: How do I assure that the task pane is not showing? Secondly, you ask me,
"You are using the e control plus shift plus. Right?" Don't know what that
means, is it a key combination? To get into styles, I use alt+o then s.
Don't quite understand the short-cut key you are directing me to. Third,
how to I set the style wit to 0?
Thanks.

I am not sure exactly what is going on. I have a couple of suggestions
that may help.
1st, be sure the task pane is not showing. This task pane usually comes
up when you had been modifying a style, not when you are simply adding a
style. You are using the e control plus shift plus. Right?
2nd, in your Microsoft Word settings, be sure to set the "style wit" to 0.
I hope this helps.

a
certain style and bring it up, I go to the change style and choose one,
hitting enter. I still see the clear styles coming up. Must I do something

Re: Google Docs

Dondi

Hi Everyone,

I would stay away from Google Chrome Or at least think about this. I had
some program install Google Chrome without my knowing it and when I
uninstalled Chrome it messed up my registry. Hyperlinks didn't work in
Excel, Web links in a Outlook email didn't launch IE. They both gave me the
same error your computer has restrictions on it see your administrator. This
was pretty much a nightmare to finally fix this problem.

I just caught a podcast by Kevin Chow (not 100% certain of spelling)
with an interesting demonstration of Google Docs. He was using NVDA,
but mentioned that Google Docs claims JAWS works with the new Google
Docs. Apparently, however, one needs to use Google Chrome and perhaps
also something called Google Vox (I think).
Clearly, from the demonstration, Google Docs isn't for prime time, but
for those who have to use it, it appears to be useable -- to some extent.
Has anyone had success using Google Docs with JAWS 12 or even the

Re: Stopping Tabs From Being Spoken

Bill White <billwhite92701@...>

Hi, Mike. When I tried using Shift+Control+8 it didn't turn off the announcement of 1 inch etc. What it does do is hide and unhide formatting marks.

To do this in a menu, load Word. Press Alt+O for Formatting. Arrow up to "Reveal Formatting", and press Enter. Tab to the box which says, "Show all formatting marks", and check that box. Then press Escape, and you will be out of the menus and back in the document.

This does the same as Control+Shift+8, but does not turn off the announcement of tab stops.

Thank you.

Hi Nickus,

I'm really sorry, I misrepresented what I am looking for. What I want to do
is stop Jaws from reporting / saying the tab settings while in a Word
document. You know 1.0 inches, 1.5 inches, etc.

I know I can do this in Speech & Sound Schemes or via the keystroke,
Control, Shift, + 8 on the number row or through Quick Settings but, I'm
trying to find out if the tab settings announcement can be turned off by
any other means in the Word program . Thanks much, take care.

Hi
Go in to the jaws settings center, press k to go down to keyboard and
right arrow to open it, arrow down to manage key labels and press
space bar to enter it, once it entered press t to go down to tab or
arrow down to it, it will say Tab speak, you must press space then it
will say tab mute, then just apply and click ok or exit whatever I
can't exactly remember. Just remember now your tab key won't be spoken
throughout your computer in all applications.

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

According to the Podcast, "Listen and Learn," available on iBlink Radio (for iPhone), the demonstrator reported that Google claims it is accessable with JAWS and VoiceOver.
Chow did a good job, though he was using NVDA.
Actually, he was using FireFox and went to docs.google.com
The key was to be in "focus" mode, not brows mode. I think "focus" mode for NVDA must be something like forms mode (PC cursor) as opposed to Virtual cursor.

Alt plus shift plus grave is supposed to start "screen reader mode." It did not in the demo.
Kevin had to tab about 15 times and then hit "screen reader support."
I never found this option.
Then again, I'm using Internet Explorer.
This was apparently a fairly recent demonstration.

wasn't.

I just caught a podcast by Kevin Chow (not 100% certain of spelling) with an
interesting demonstration of Google Docs. He was using NVDA, but mentioned
that Google Docs claims JAWS works with the new Google Docs. Apparently,
however, one needs to use Google Chrome and perhaps also something called
Google Vox (I think).
Clearly, from the demonstration, Google Docs isn't for prime time, but for
those who have to use it, it appears to be useable -- to some extent.
Has anyone had success using Google Docs with JAWS 12 or even the dreaded
JAWS 13?

I know I can do this in Speech & Sound Schemes or via the keystroke,

trying to find out if the tab settings announcement can be turned off by
any other means in the Word program .

Just remember now your tab key won't be spoken
throughout your computer in all applications.

jaws certification

Kimsan <kimsansong@...>

Hi,

Has anyone done the jaws certification offered by FS? If so, thoughts? If I
read it right, you can take the test as many times as you would like and
once you pass it, then you pay.

Thanks.
