Re: Question regarding installing a new installation of Windows 8/8.1
There is no upgrade path from Windows 7 to Windows 8, and never has been. It must be installed from scratch, and you must acquire a license key for it. The only free upgrade path was from Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 to Windows 10. Personally, unless they're paying you, I'd refuse to install Windows 8.1 at this point. It makes absolutely no sense to do so. --

Question regarding installing a new installation of Windows 8/8.1
For those on this list, who used Windows 8 or 8.1,
I have the following questions:
Did you upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8 or 8.1.
If you did, did the Windows 7 authorization key, also
authorize versions of Windows 8 or, did you need
to purchase a new authorization key for versions of Windows 8;
If you had Windows 7 installed but, you decided to
install a new installation of Windows 8 or 8.1, were you able to use the
windows 7 key, to authorize versions of Windows 8.
Were you able to install Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself
or, did you have visual assistance;
If you installed Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself, was
Narrator available to you, to assist you through the installation process;
and
If Narrator was not available, how didyou install
Windows 8 or 8.1 yourself, without visual assistance.
I have suggested they upgrade to Windows 10 but,
they are adament, they want Windows 8.

Re: win 8. talking win pe1
hi, well need to find the win 8 or win 8.1 talking pe, to install windows 8 or 8.1 for a assignment for my networking course. some one did create one on the audio games.net, but cannot seem to find it and did create a new account. but not allowing new posts at the moment. and no way to contact the developers, as maybe still a robot. can any one help me out. that's what i need it for. then the second part of the assignment, do a inline upgrade, like to windows 10. but did try the win 7 talking installer. got nvda inside vmware player. but would not install windows 8.1 64 bit, and got the 64 bit installer for win pe and windows 8.1. but said the file was incompattible.so any one able to help. thanks.ps: need to install windows 8 or 8.1, do screen shots to show my trainers from http://www.upskilled.edu.au the list of steps to verify i did do this for my networking course. they use a tool called heropa from http://www.heropa.com. either not loding when i lgin into my school site, and when it did, was totally unuser friendly and totally screen reader unfriendly. a total mess. so any one able to help me out. if this topic is off topic and did read the guidelines for this forum. maybe e-mail me off list if need to take this off list. thanks.ps:: have tried googling and still cannot find it. also did try blog.bryansmart.com, but on all browsers, crhomechrome, firefox, edge, says network error, clean out my cache, and do a windows network diagnostic. but still cannot reach. so where do i contact bryan smart. thanks..

Re: Course or guide for audio editing recordings JAWS2020
Hey.
Osara is being updated and distributed. ReAccess is loooong gone. And the latter ist he foundation for the Reaper course. That said, there is a pretty comprehensive wiki, and the mailing list can help if you have questions -- it's called 'Reapers without peepers" and is here on groups.io.
Audacity is maybe a little trickier than goldwave, but it's also a multitrack editor, which could be useful, depending on your needs.

Hello, I am looking for a course or guide of some kind for being able to edit audio recordings with JAWS2020. I don't have a particular program for doing this in mind yet, but I have heard that audacity is the most accessible. I did try to follow the guide but I found that I could not edit with it and it was overwhelming for me. I did some research online and I see that Brian Hartgen has a course for Reaper but it seems that the packages for Osara and Reaaccess are not being distributed any longer. Does anyone know of a course or guide of some kind that can be followed? Thank you in advance.

I'm not sure about the Goldwave one; I suspect it is ok because that programme and accessibility methods have not changed much, but the Reaper one is seriously out of date. The accessibility structure/plugin for Reaper is not even the same, now (Osara instead of ReAccess).
If you want to learn to use goldwave -- the manual is a great place to start. There are also some free resources you can use, plus a forum. Reaper has a mailing list on which many experts post.
You can contact me off list if you want -- Reaper's presented me with some serious challenges but I'm pretty conversant with Goldwave.

Re: Jaws2020 laptop window10 for a friend
Did you ever think that your teacher was wrong, and that no one has ever corrected you. If you took the time to check a dictionary you
would see that menue is not in it. Or are you right and the Oxford dictionary wrong?
I didn’t assume I was wrong because myself and those I asked have never heard of menu being spelt with an e on the end, I took the time
to check a dictionary.
https://www.lexico.com/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&filter=en_dictionary&dictionary=en&query=menue
Why cant you just take a piece of humble pie and admit you were wrong this time?

As far as I can see it is not in the dictionary.

I do apologize and stand corrected, it is just that I noticed that my JAWS was pronouncing the word a bit strangely. You are not the first to point out just how we Americans have bastardized the King’s English.

I am from the United Kingdom. In the UK, we do have the letter "e" at the end of the word "menue". And, as far as I know, among the english speaking countries round
the world, only the United States of North America and Canada, do not have the letter "e", at the end of the word "menue".
With all due respect, when you criticize others, for the way they use, speak and write their language, you should be very careful that others do not come back, and
by demonstration, show how poorly you use, speak and write your language. Especially, if you are a citizen of the United States of North America, as a nation, you use, speak and write the poorest quality standard English in the world.

On checking the text in my previous reply to you, I found a typo.
In addition, I changed some of the text, to ensure bettter accuracy.
thereforeI am reposting the message again, with the correction and amended text.
I have just discovered the following method:
Press INSERT+J, to open the JAWS "Context" Menue.
Press U, which opens the "utilities" submenue, and highlights the "Tandom" Submenue.
press t, which opens the "tandom" submenue, and highlights the "Tandom Centre" submenue.
Press C, which opens the "Tandom Centre" submenue
There are 2 options: "Allow Access to My Computer...", and "Get Access to a Computer...". by default, the "Allow Access to My Computer...", is highlighted
Press A, to open "Allow Access to My Computer...". JAWS will speak the text in the dialogue. The "Meeting ID" edit field, is highlhlighted; or
Press G to open, "Get Access to a Computer...". JAWS will speak the text in the dialogue. The "Get Access" button, is highlighted.
Press G, to open this option. JAWS will speak the access code, which needs to be given to the other person.
The beauty of this method, is that, you do not need to move your fingers off the qwerty keyboard at all.
This is definitely going to be the method I will use in the Future.
Wich ever method we use, and others will have their way of achieving the same thing, in the end, it is whatever suits the individual.

There's not a shortcut command for getting the access code for accessing someone elses computer. Press, Insert + J, then press the letter, U, to open Utilities,
then press enter on, submenu Jaws Tandem, press enter on submenu Tandem center, press enter on Get access to a computer ..., and now press enter on, Get access button, to get the access code.

Just in case JAWS 2020 is not loading correctly, ask your friend, to unload JAWS, then, reload JAWS.
Remember, your friend may not be able to perform the INSERT+CTRL+ALT+T, JAWS command to go straight to the tandom window, where they need to enter the meeting ID
code. In that case, following the steps in my previous email, might be a better way for your friend, to get to that window.

Hi there
That’s exactly what I ha her to do this morning and able to do tandem with her before I do tandemthere were a bells sound pop on windows
It looks like the person who installed JAWS on her computer, set JAWS to be minimized to the Task Tray. When this is done, when someone presses ALT+TAB, to cycle
through the open windows, the JAWS window is not displayed.
Suggest to her that she do the following:
1. Press WINDOWS KEY+M, to go to the desktop.
2. If JAWS 2020 is the only version of JAWS installed on the machine, press the letter J, to highlight JAWS. If there is more than 1 version installed, keep pressing
the letter J, until, JAWS 2020 is spoken.
3. press ENTER. The JAWS Context Window opens, and the first option in that window, is "options".
4. Tap the DOWN ARROW once, to highlight "Utilities".
5. tap the RIGHT ARROW 3 times, JAWS will say, "Allow access to my computer"...
6. Press ENTER. The meeting ID window is opened. After speaking some text, JAWS will say, "Meeting ID, edit". She needs to enter the meeting ID you give her, followed
by pressing the ENTER key, to start the Tandom session.

He is also working on an iOS app which will be able to use the same license. A friend took his course on Goldwave and speaks highly of it.

I did some research online and I see that Brian Hartgen has a course for Reaper but it seems that the packages for Osara and Reaaccess are not being distributed any longer. Does anyone know of a course or guide of some kind that can be followed? Thank you in advance.

Re: Course or guide for audio editing recordings JAWS2020
I've not taken Brian's course, but my friend said his scripts come with the course. Doug Lee's scripts at least give you a few shortcuts for checking where you are in a file, the length of the file, etc. While the GoldWave manual is very involved, it is well worth reading the sections on what you are interested in accomplishing. A couple helpful keystrokes are pressing left bracket drops a start marker, pressing right bracket drops a finish marker. Control C cuts that piece out, or control t trims off the stuff before and after the markers. Control p pastes the clipboard into a new file.

Thank you! It seems like it might be pretty cool. Are those courses free or paid? Just curious.

Like Windows 7, people who are currently using
Windos 8 and 8.1, can use the authorization key, to upgrade to Windows 10 using
