Re: Using JAWS to Send Private Message during Zoom Meeting
Cynthia Bruce
Hi Rick,
If you want to send a private chat message, you need to tab past the participant list to the chat function. Hit enter there, and then go to the list of participants in the chat function. Once you find the person you want to message, hit enter and you will be able to enter text to send a private message. Finally, when you have typed the message, just hit the enter key to send the message. Hope this is helpful.

Dear Listers:
I have just recently become acquainted with Zoom and am still learning how to use it. I know how to join a meeting both via a computer and via phone. After I join a meeting, I know how to tab over to the list of participants. I know that when I come to the list to press the Enter key and the list will appear and you can go through it with JAWS. I know that in a Zoom meeting you can send a message either to everyone or privately to someone, and it is the second of these which I don’t know how to do. When I have found a participant I want to send a private message to I have hit the Enter key to select that participant, but then when I either tab or Alt-Tab to the chat window there is always a message in it that says, “Find a Participant,” instead of showing it is a message from me to the participant. I assume I must be doing something wrong, but I can’t figure out what.

I have not seen an option in Outlook rules to do what you want. Microsoft Accessibility might have an idea. Here is an idea that I think could help you. If you have your inbox sorted so that that newest is on top, you can move to the first message by a given person, Then, hit the application key while you are still in the inbox. Hit F to jump to the “Find related” menu option. A submenu will open and the first option, on which you’ll already have focus, is called messages in this conversation. It will display all the related messages with the same subject line and you can delete the older ones and/or read just the top message you need. You may need to use F6 or Control Tab to bring focus to the list of messages.
I have never used the cleanup conversation option, so I don’t know the ins and outs of that feature.

Don't forget that the Mosen book is FREE and he devotes a whole chapter on setting up meetings.

And, you can just listen to the chapter on setting up meetings by playing the specific mp3 file which covers that topic. There is one other book that recently came out and its available through the Carol Center for the Blind, it cost $18.000. Brian Hartgen who wrote the scripts which is available with the latest version of JAWS also did a webinar and you can purchase the recording of the 3-part webinar from his site at https://hartgen.org/ Milton

It depends on what you want to do, but general meeting access with Zoom is actually quite easy. If you are sent a meeting link, it's easy to join a meeting and participate. You first have to download and install the Zoom app. A list of most-used Zoom key strokes can be obtained via Alt H--the help menu. I hope this helps at least a little. Tom Behler

Then consider creating a manually run rule that looks for messages with subject containing what you need to get rid of that are older than today, and kicking that off as needed.
You might be able to do that same thing with a rule for when something is received with the subject you want to nuke, but it would also require custom VBA scripting to avoid nuking the message you just received based upon what I can find in the Rules Wizard. I'd just create a rule that deletes all messages with that subject that you can run after having read the latest one that arrives that you can kick off after having read the latest one and don't need it anymore. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Hello,

My first suggestion to you is that you update your JAWS version to 2020. Freedom Scientific is offering a discount to upgrade for the price that cannot be beat. Go to their website and look for the information about the summer convention offerings. This special will end on July 31. You have another option and that is to install the latest version of JAWS for free and this offering as of now will end on August 31. Again, you can find information about this on their website. Go to: https://freedomscientific.com When you install the latest version of Zoom, it will install spripts that will give you better functionality in combination between JAWS and Zoom. The scripts were written by Brian Hartgen and given to Freedom Scientific. If you are wanting more functionality you might want to purchase a set of more advance scripts from Brian Hartgen. To find out more about Brian's scripts for purchase go to: https://hartgen.org/ There are two books that are available to help you learn about all the things you can do along with the keyboard commands. The first is "Meet Me In The Cloud". This books is an audio book in MP3 files, available free from https://mosen.org/ and is a bit old but still will help. The author is Jonathan Mosen. The second book is available either from the Carol Center for the Blind and I don't remember the title of this book at the moment. I think you can also get this book from National Braille Press at https://nbp.org/ This book was priced at $18.00 for an MS Word file. Lastly, you can also find some keyboard commands on the Zoom website. Downloading Zoom is Free if you are just joining a group conference. If you are intending to host a group conference the free version will give you 40 minutes access. Zoom offers different pricing plans that you can purchase so check their website at https://zoom.us/ Hope this helps. Milton

place-marckers on websites with jaws 2019
William Windels
Hello,
I work with chrome and jaws 2019.
On some webpages, not all defined marckers on a webpage are shown (from top to bottom) with letter k but, with shift plus k at the end of the page, the missed marckers are shown?
What I do: first, i press ctrl plus home, then k,k,k,k... and then, athe end, i do shift plus k
Vispero said about that: “The order is based on page position, not which marker you set first. It cannot be changed. The order of place markers cannot be changed as to how they appear on a web site.”
So, with this comments from vispero: I should reach all marckers with tab if I go from top (ctrl+home) to bottom? But this doesn’t happen. Any idea’s?

I tried to get this display working on 3 different Android devices, and got nothing. Yet the OS claimed it was supported. Braille support on all operating systems is very badly tested, and is of a poorer quality than speech support, which is sad times, but at least it's usable on everything else except Android. So if you need portable braille, you're pretty much stuck with Apple, sadly. Android has some nice options, and I'd prefer it, but I like to read a lot, so that doesn't work.
