Yes, press alt-H to get into the chat panel. Tab over until you hear the list of participants. Arrow down the list until you hear the name of the participant you want to chat with and press enter.

That should put you in the text box for chatting with that person, but you may need to tab around to find it.

Dear Listers:

I am just now becoming acquainted with Zoom, as every week I attend a class at church that is conducted strictly via Zoom.  I have learned how to join a Zoom meeting and have learned some of the keystrokes such as Alt+1 and Alt+Y and various others.  I even know how to get into the chat window, but where I am having trouble is chatting with a participant.  I know that first after signing in or at some point during the meeting you can tab over to the panel of participants.  I know when you hit the Enter key the names of the participants will pop up and you can arrow up and down through the list.  But if you want to send a chat message to only one participant and not to everyone in the meeting, is there a way you can do that using JAWS?

I think that I remember seeing something in MS Word called Rotate Text, but once you do something like that, it brakes JAWS ability to read it.

I do not think Jaws will be able to give you the information you would need.

I would suggest seeing if someone with Aira could help you with that, or you would need to find a graphics designer who could create the template for you.

Hi Mike,

Yes, I tried rebooting. I also pressed windows key plus D and also the alt M and even Control M. Nothing happens. I ask Curtana for mail is the way I find it now. I no longer have the normal list. I hope I didn’t get a virus or something.

No, I didn’t finish the letter before the Desktop vanished, but I asked Curtana for mail and finished (rewrote) the important email letter. What the letter had to do with everything is that I was rushing to get it sent out before today—long story. In my hurry, I may have pressed the wrong keys somewhere—or been keying too fast--that darn letter took up a lot of my time and brain power. By the time I sent out my plea for help last night, I was exhausted. (smile).

My next plan is to call Microsoft Disability number. Thought I’d pick your brains on the list first.

Shirley,

When you hit Insert T while you think you should be on the desktop, Do you hear JAWS say Desktop 1? With some frequency, I hit something that switches me to Desktop 2 where my icons are different.  I use Control Windows key and left arrow to get back to the main Desktop.
