Re: Video Chatting on Facebook Using JAWS
JM Casey
HI Justin. It’s free. I haven’t used the video call option because I don’t have a camera. Tried a couple of calls – the audio quality is not great but it’s fine I guess…I think for pleasurable listening you’d be better off using skype or zoom, but a lot of people have the facebook messenger/app on their phones so forwhat’s essentailly free long distance I guess it’s ok. The app’s interface is a little clunky if you just want to send messages to your buddies but it is ok. Personally what I dig about it is that it runs in background and you don’t have to have facebook open in browser to know you’ve received messages.

Yes, here as well. I think it came with a new version of firefox. It has something to do with Jaws, I suspect because on one page where I can make it happen, it doesn't crash with nvda.
If anyone wants to have a crash with latest version of firefox go to www.cvstats.net and hit enter on country stats. Firefox will crash immediately.

Hi!
Starting a few days ago, for some unknown reason Firefox is crashing a lot. I am using Windows 10 and JAWS 2020. Is anyone else experiencing this? Does anyone know why this might be happening? Is there a solution?

Re: Permanently activating Jaws screen shade
Shan Noyes
As a developer and one who has supported users, I can understand why the screen shade item has been set to have to be turned on. If it was a permanent setting what would happen is it would end up generating calls. Because people would have their jaws starting up with the screen shade enabled, and then say something happened on start up of jaws. The screen would be blank. And there are a lot of users who would just ask a sighted person can you see what's happening. Well the answer would be nothing because the screen would be blank.

So from a support point of view it is better that it isn't an always on feature. Have a good day everyone.

Re: Edge question
To my knowledge, ALT+D works in all modern web browsers to throw focus to the address bar and cause the address to be selected when focus lands there.
I've just tested that in Firefox, Edge, Chrome, and Brave and it works in all of them. If anyone knows of an exception, that would be interesting to know. And this is not a screen reader command, but a part of Windows or the browsers' interfaces, I'm not absolutely sure which. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

E-mail address to contact FS

Hello everyone, Does someone know to what e-mail address I have to send a message to suggest a feature that can be implemented for Jaws? Obviously, I’m talking about an active e-mail that people from Freedom Scientific check regularly, and from which I can get serious feedback. I prefer an e-mail because I’m out of the US. Certainly, I can go and check the contact information on the FS web site, but I thought may be someone here knows better than that. Thanks for any help!

Hello Brian,
tried the approach via the favorites manager - still quite cumbersome. It seems to me that longterm maintaining the IE favorites file on the desktop is much more efficient: I will still save the favorite in the Edge Browser with Control + d Additionally however - and this is certainly more work 1. Go with control + l and copy the web address of the page in Edce 2. Open the IE favorites on the desktop 3. create new shortcut with the application menue. After this I have the convienience of handling all subsequent accesses with keyboard searches etc from the desktop file. Klaus

In Outlook, while in the message, pressing insert+a puts the focus on the attachments, then alt+down arrow lets you decide if you want to open, save, etc. Or as Andrew pointed out, you can use the file menu and select save all attachments or just save attachment. If you select save all attachments, you will get an OK button and then you can navigate to the folder where you want all the attachments to be saved and hit enter. Then, use Windows explorer (file explorer) to go to that folder to open them. Note, if it is a Word document, you will probably have to Enable editing as outlook by default puts documents into protected mode.
