If you do not have Windows 10 Version 2004 already, they are not going to be presented. And I have no idea why you'd even bother booting into talking Windows PE if you have a sighted assistant to do a one-time boot order reset to cause the machine to boot from Windows 10 install media. Once the Windows 10 installer fires up you can turn on Narrator and go the rest of the way straight from the install media. I've supplied these instructions many times, Doing a Completely Clean (Re)install of Windows 10 Using Media Creation Tool to Create Bootable Win10 Install Media on a USB Thumb Drive , and the Windows 10 installer will either install over the current disk setup or you can escape to command prompt and nuke the drive yourself, because Narrator should be up by then if you invoke it. If the reinstall is for yourself, the whole set of steps escaping to Command Prompt are very often unnecessary. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Re: Question regarding the Reset This PC Function
Hi, In order to use online method, you must install May 2020 Update (Version 2004). Apart from downloading the installer image for the Windows 10 version you have, it is identical to local install option. This means this option won’t solve the intended use case – you cannot really repartition the drive or do a complete clean install via external media; to do that, you still need to boot to the installation media. Cheers, Joseph

Sharon, I’ve experienced this a little, too. In my case, my hypothesis is that I have been accidentally hitting the mouse touchpad with the sides of my thumb or hand as I type or rest my hands. I taped an index card over the touch pad and this has really cut down on my issues. If you are using a laptop with a touchpad below the spacebar, you might cover it or disable it to see if this is part of your issue. I don’t turn mine off because my sighted kids also use my laptop.

I’d like pointers for using the Google Calendar with JAWS 2020. Google recommends procedures and hotkeys with virtual cursor off, but you still need to turn it on to read details. If anybody uses this extensively, I’d love suggestions. I can’t, for instance, figure out how to create an event while in month view and have the correct event date filled in automatically.
Thanks.

I own and have used an ElBraille for two years. The best tips I can give you are: Use the focus Braille display manual to help you learn the commands. Plug a standard USB keyboard into your ElBraille to help you get through the learning curve. I haven't needed this for over a year, but it was helpful at the beginning. Make sure you set your Braille settings in Jaws to how you want them. I use grade 2 UEB and adjusted other settings to my liking. I installed MS office and use it for all my note taking. I did not find the special software installed on the machine to be very helpful. If you have the new faster ElBraille, I really envy you. I like my ElBraille, but the first generation ElBraille is on the slow side. If you want to email or talk privately off list, just let me know. Randy Meyer

Re: Why Jaws demo mode?
Patrick Murphy
Hi,
I am not sure if this would help, but after I installed jaws 2020, I got a 90 day local key. Once I installed it, jaws kept starting up, but there was no jaws window. The only way to get the jaws window back was to stop and then restart jaws 2020. By various methods of installing/uninstalling it and 2018, I am fairly sure, that all of these type of problems are to do with their “grace period” authorization that was introduced in 2019. Basically, it allows jaws to start while it is checking your authorization, or whether it should be running in demo mode. In other words, and in my opinion, jaws is trying to have its cake and eat it at the same time. As a programmer, in such things, it should be done one thing at a time, even if there is a small delay in jaws starting. That way, it would be sure of its authorization state before it actually starts. I would say, that this is your problem. Jaws cannot decide whether you are authorized or not. In my experience, don’t bother trying to find a fix for this. There is none!!! The difference between your good self and me, is that I am using windows 10 home edition. I also suspect, that the startup of jaws, and how reliable it is, depends on the machine, e.g. speed of processor, solid state drive, available memmory etc.
Hope this points you in some direction.

Mapping braille display keys
Hi folks,
Would it involve fancy scripting or is there anyway of mapping keys on a braille display to certain functions, like the F1 through F12 keys, setting keystrokes for an Alt_F4 function, ETC? I just learned that Orbit has not even developed these commands for Jaws and there display, though they did put the commands in the User guide. They've promised an updated user guide, but no word whether they will implement the F1 through F12 key commands yet. In fact, there are a lot of keys on the Orbit that don't seem to be mapped to any functions in Remote mode at all. Thanks for any advice, ~Ann

David Griffith
Whilst setting a temporary placemarker is certainly an option I personally find it much easier to simply press shift enter on a link on a web page. This has the affect of forcing your browser to open a link in a new window. Instead of hitting the alt left arrow to go back you simply use control w to close the page to return to your original page where hopefully your original placement should be undisturbed. At least that has always worked for me. David Griffith

Re: Copying Selected Text

You should first of all check that you are set to copy with the Virtual cursor in Jaws. Press Jaws V in your web browser and type copy in the search field. Make sure that the copy is not for all formats etc but for virtual cursor. Otherwise it is possible that the web site you are on does not want you to copy text directly and is blocking copy. The only way around this I am aware of is to use Speech history.Jaws plus space then H for history. Here you can copy whatever Jaws has been reading. David G.
