Hi, All.
I don't know if I'm one of only a few who can no longer get Windows Media Player to add media information to CDs I want to rip. Research into how WMP does it and why mine no longer does it has so far failed. Might be that Microsoft no longer supports access to a music database. Anyway, I had started using Gold Wave, which is JAWS compatible. Well.... Gold Wave suddenly quit working about 2 weeks ago, with an error message informing me that my firewall may be blocking Gold Wave.
I turned off Windows Firewall--I don't know how it got turned on in the first place--but Gold Wave still cannot access the music database.
Meanwhile, I have a stack of new CDs I'd like to rip, and I'd like to have the media information rather than Track 1, Track 2, etcetera. Sorry for being long winded. My question is, can you recommend a reliably JFW accessible CD ripper I can use until I figure out what's wrong with Gold Wave? Or, can you direct me to a user group where I can tap into the experience of users who can help me solve my technical difficulty?
Thanks for your time, Lou N.

Re: Creating a desktop shortcut in Google Chrome
Sieghard Weitzel <sieghard@...>
Keep in mind that at least with Edge installing a site as an app isn't exactly the same as creating a shortcut to it. If you install a site as an app and then open it, you don't have access to the address bar in Edge or the menus, you have your site and you can navigate it completely, but if you were to open Edge as well to whatever your home page is, you would see two completely separate entries in your taskbar, each site you install as an app shows up separately.

Recently, Jessica asked a question about creating a desktop shortcut for a website in Microsoft Edge. There is also a similar tool in Google Chrome. To use it, 1. Open Google Chrome. 2. Open the website for which you want to create a shortcut. 3. Tap the ALT key and arrow up to More Tools, and press ENTER. 4. Arrow up to Create Shortcut. 5. This will place a shortcut on the desktop. 6. It will also place an entry for the site in your Start Menu under Recently-added apps, and possibly in All Apps.
Be aware that, even if you delete the shortcut which was placed on the desktop for the website, this will not delete the entries in the Start menu. If you want to delete these,
1. Press Windows key plus R, and in the "run" dialog, type
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
2. You can either delete the subfolder here called Chrome Apps, or you can open this folder and delete any stored websites individually.

I’m using Jaws2020 most recent version. Has anyone used this version of windows 10? Has anyone had any problems? Some times short cuts on the desk top don’t work. Then when I use windows explorer it will show folders and files I recently used. It also has desktop, documents and downloads pinned. Is there a way to stop this from occuring? Thanks, Kevin

Hi Lou,
I would not rely on the firewall provided by a
router.
The firewall is good for what it is intended for,
but it leaves ports open for users to be able to get out to the
world.
You need your operating system to monitor the ports
that the router keeps open.

There is a Goldwave forum on his web site, or you could use the support form and write the developer.
He is usually quite responsive.
I use AnyBurn to copy CD'S or burn CDs from files, but I do not recall if it can rip to mp3, wave, whatever on your computer.
Its free, and if I have time later, I'll check if it does that.

Firewall is turned on by default and it might be a good idea to leave it like that. Add exceptions to the firewall instead of turning it off. I use CDex Only bad thing I can say about CDex is that I can't use the keyboard to deselect the crapware that'll be installed by default. It's programs like Avast, toolbars etc. If you don't have some one around or on remote who can deselect by using the mouse then you can download the portable version that doesn't need installation.
