Creating a desktop shortcut in Google Chrome
Bill White <billwhite92701@...>
Recently, Jessica asked a question about creating a desktop shortcut for a website in Microsoft Edge. There is also a similar tool in Google Chrome. To use it, 1. Open Google Chrome. 2. Open the website for which you want to create a shortcut. 3. Tap the ALT key and arrow up to More Tools, and press ENTER. 4. Arrow up to Create Shortcut. 5. This will place a shortcut on the desktop. 6. It will also place an entry for the site in your Start Menu under Recently-added apps, and possibly in All Apps.
Be aware that, even if you delete the shortcut which was placed on the desktop for the website, this will not delete the entries in the Start menu. If you want to delete these,
1. Press Windows key plus R, and in the "run" dialog, type
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
2. You can either delete the subfolder here called Chrome Apps, or you can open this folder and delete any stored websites individually.

Yes, that’s what I’m talking about Go to the messenger website. There is a direct link to the microsft store where the app can be downloaded. You can probably do a search at the store itself too but the last time I tried that, I couldn’t seem to get the right result to come up/activate so I think going through the web is preferrable, but it’s up to you. Anyway, once you click “get”, the software will install. Once tha’ts done I open windows search and start typing in “messenger”. It will come up and you can work with it from there.

hi can you get the messenger app for your PC? So that you don't have to go to the messenger web site to use it. And if so where do you go to get it and what is the best way to install it? On 6/16/2020 8:13 AM, JM Casey wrote:

I live in Canada too and assuming this would be the case. I used to deal with Richard from Frontier computing back in the day. It was great – prompt responses, great customer service, very honest and up front. These days it’s a dealer in Quebec that, not only have I never heard of, last time I bought an SMA, attempted to over charge me before I called them out, took 6 days to call back, and, though they took my money immediately, took a week and a half to actually send me confirmation that yes, my SMA had, in fact, been approved and renewed. It’s really a shame as customer service from first party (Vispero) Is absolutely great. Of course, I may be in the minority here. Hi, Jessica. To add a note to Brian's suggestion, if you are unfamiliar as to how to obtain the current web address in Edge, do the following,
1. Open Edge, Open the web page for which you want to make a desktop shortcut. 2. Press ALT plus D for the address bar. 3. Copy that result to the clipboard with CONTROL plus C. 4. Proceed with Brian's instructions: 5. Go to the desktop and make certain no item has focus. Then bring up the context menu, whether by SHIFT+F10 or the Applications/Context Menu key, and select New,Shortcut from that menu.

Re: Using edge, how do I add a site to my desktop as an icon?
Jessica,
Presuming you have Edge set as your default browser, it's much easier just to set up a shortcut on the desktop yourself. 1. Go to the desktop and make certain no item has focus. Then bring up the context menu, whether by SHIFT+F10 or the Applications/Context Menu key, and select New,Shortcut from that menu. 2. In the Create Shortcut dialog that comes up, in the Type the location of the item edit box, enter the web address you need to open, then activate the Next button. 3. In the Type a name for this shortcut edit box, enter the name of your choosing. 4. Activate the Finish button, which will place the shortcut using the name you choose on your desktop. That shortcut will open that web address in whatever browser you have defined as your default web browser. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

Using edge, how do I add a site to my desktop as an icon?

Hi,
I’m using the latest version of edge, with yesterday’s jaws update.
In preparation for Apple’s big keynote on Monday, I’d like to add that particular website to my desktop, as an icon. However, when I look at my options in edge, I’m not seeing that, as one of them.
Can anyone help?
Thanks,
Jessica

Hi Brian and others,
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
another workaround to the broken "current folder" functionality is to specify the folder by adding an additional search term. For example, to search for mp3 files in your documents folder, you could use the search terms: *.mp3 in:documents . An alternative to in:documents is foldername:documents, but it takes longer to type. David.
