Jessica,

Presuming you have Edge set as your default browser, it's much easier just to set up a shortcut on the desktop yourself.

1.  Go to the desktop and make certain no item has focus.  Then bring up the context menu, whether by SHIFT+F10 or the Applications/Context Menu key, and select New,Shortcut from that menu.
2. In the Create Shortcut dialog that comes up, in the Type the location of the item edit box, enter the web address you need to open,
then activate the Next button.
3. In the Type a name for this shortcut edit box, enter the name of your choosing.
4. Activate the Finish button, which will place the shortcut using the name you choose on your desktop.

That shortcut will open that web address in whatever browser you have defined as your default web browser.

You understand the basics quite well.   And the contractual obligations with said international vendors may expressly forbid any offering of free service since they make their livings off of being second-party sellers of same.

Any sentient adult knows that interstate, let alone international, commerce is a complicated matter.

And, again, Vispero is not obligated to give anything away to anyone.  It's entirely up to them whether they do and to whom such offers apply.  That's how things work in capitalist enterprises.  They're not a charity.  (And this is coming from someone who thinks the amount that continues to be charged for JAWS is pretty extreme).

Hi,

I’m using the latest version of edge, with yesterday’s jaws update.

In preparation for Apple’s big keynote on Monday, I’d like to add that particular website to my desktop, as an icon.

However, when  I look at my options in edge, I’m not seeing that, as one of them.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Jessica

I live in Canada too and assuming this would be the case.

I used to deal with Richard from Frontier computing back in the day. It was great – prompt responses, great customer service, very honest and up front.

These days it’s a dealer in Quebec that, not only have I never heard of, last time I bought an SMA, attempted to over charge me before I called them out, took 6 days to call back, and, though they took my money immediately, took a week and a half to actually send me confirmation that yes, my SMA had, in fact, been approved and renewed.

It’s really a shame as customer service from first party (Vispero) Is absolutely great. Of course, I may be in the minority here. Your mileage may vary and things may have improved since here in Canada. I really hope this is the case.

Extended Free Home-Use Software For Those Affected by COVID-19

First and foremost, we hope that you and your family are safe and well.

Thank you for taking advantage of the free home access of JAWS, Fusion and ZoomText. Our goal is simply to help you remain accessible as you work and study remotely. Due to Covid-19, and the impact to our customers, during Summer Schools sessions especially, we have decided to extend the expiration date on the Free June 30th software licenses to August 31, 2020. Your license will automatically be extended so there is nothing extra for you to do.

As many people have requested to continue using the product past the August 31st expiration, we are offering a 20% discount to anyone in the United States to extend their Home Annual License if you purchase your renewal before July 31st. All you need to do to take advantage of this offer is to go into the software portal prior to July 31st and choose the Renewal Option and select 1, 3, or 5 years for the Home Annual license of that product and the renewal time will begin after the August 31st date.

Hi Brian and others,
another workaround to the broken "current folder" functionality is to specify the folder by adding an additional search term. For example, to search for mp3 files in your documents folder, you could use the search terms:
*.mp3 in:documents .
An alternative to in:documents is foldername:documents, but it takes longer to type.

David.

By the way, for anyone who signed up for and is using the temporary license that was set to expire on June 30, 2020, the extension to August occurs automatically.  There is nothing that the end user has to do to request that extension.

First, have you tried rebooting the computer?  One thing you can check is your Word scheme to see if it might have gotten switched.  Press, Insert, alt + S, to open your scheme list, if it's not on Classic or Word classic, navigate to, Word classic for testing purposes, and press enter to switch to this scheme.  Make sure to take notice of what scheme you are using when you invoke the scheme list keystroke in case you want to go back to that scheme.

Hey guys and gals,

I have JAWS 2020 and Windows 10. I updated my JAWS this morning.

This has changed the JAWS response while I am typing in a Word document. I
am now hearing how many words are in the document. How do I turn this off?

Thanks for your responses,

I am a bit surprised that FS doesn't include previous builds of a particular version of JAWS on their Web site for people who feel the need to revert to a previous build within the same release cycle. While they do have previous versions this only gives you the last version for a particular release.

Subject: June Update crashes continuously. How do I get back to previous install?

I just updated Jaws 2020 to the June update on my laptop. When I tried to activate the new Avoid Silence feature it crashes instantly and repeatedly. Now it won’t load for more than a few seconds before crashing. I just removed it and have gone back to the last 2019 version. Is there a way to find and install the version from April? I mean the one that didn’t break email conversion handling in Outlook.

Thanks

John

I've had no problems. Why not go the freedom scientific and download the full install of 2020 and keep your old version. Then if you have problems you can still use your older version.

Hi All,

I am about to upgrade to JAWS 2020, can I expect a lot of trouble?

Yes, I always thought FS/Vispero still offered previous monthly iterations of Jaws, so it was a bit of a shock to find I couldn’t go back.

I am a bit surprised that FS doesn't include previous builds of a particular version of JAWS on their Web site for people who feel the need to revert to a previous build within the same release cycle. While they do have previous versions this only gives you the last version for a particular release.

Two things under this thread:

First, I always download the file and keep it so I can go back to the previous month’s release if needed.

Second, I am having no issues so far with the June update and am not sure what is causing the issues for the person experiencing a lot of crashes.

David Bailes

Hi Hank and others,
an alternative to using search or the command line is to make use of the filtering which is available if the items view is set to have the details view. If you want to filter by the type of the file, then type has to be one of the details present. By default, this is the case by default for document folders, but not music folders. However it's easy to add  a type column to a details view - on the view tab of the ribbon, in the current view group, there's an add columns menu button.
Anyway, assuming the view is details, and one of the columns is type, then  to filter the items view so that only mp3 files, for example, are shown:
1. Tab to the name split button.
2. Using the left or right arrow keys move to the type split button.
3. Press down arrow to press the menu part of the split button. A menu opens.
4. Press the letter M until you get to mp3 file, and press Enter. You are returned to the items view with only mp3 files shown.

David.

Hello,

In Win10 when you are wanting to get rid of some particular files all with the same extension in a folder, but not the other files with different extensions in that same folder, is there a way to tell Win10 to in that particular folder to only delete all the files that have that same extension that you want to delete?

Llike in the old days, when we were still using dos and in dos to delete only all the files with a particular same extension in a directory, the dos command once you were located in that particular directory was the dos command delete  *. and the 3 letters corresponding to the extension you particularly wanted to delete.

If maybe someone can help me with this, this would be so very much appreciated. Much, much thanks in advance for any help with this.
