The export settings wizard worked perfectly on both my Windows 7 & 10 computers running this latest Jaws2020 build.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi,

I sincerely apologize if I’m not supposed to send this to multiple people, but I’d really like to get this solved.

With the June update, which was released today, the settings export wizard still crashes.

Can anyone uncover the mystery, as to why this would be?

What happens is:

  1. Go to the utilities menu, and click export settings.
  2. Leave the default option, which is to export all settings as is
  3. Press enter, which will press the “next” button

At this point, the wizard may crash.

This happens every time for me.

Thanks,

Jessica

I always create a restore point before installing any new software on my system including Jaws. I have had to dial back more than once since Jaws 4.5 when I first began.

I am a bit surprised that FS doesn't include previous builds of a particular version of JAWS on their Web site for people who feel the need to revert to a previous build within the same release cycle. While they do have previous versions this only gives you the last version for a particular release.

Turning off speaking comments in JAWS does not affect the document; just what JAWS tells you about it. You can turn reading of comments back on at any time and everything will still be there.

The reason I'm asking is I don't want to here 'comment' at the beginning of a comment and then at the end of it. Yet I want to be able to turn it back on so I can get the next comment and see what it is refering to in the document. Thanks, Kevin

Yes, that’s what I’m talking about

Go to the messenger website. There is a direct link to the microsft store where the app can be downloaded. You can probably do a search at the store itself too but the last time I tried that, I couldn’t seem to get the right result to come up/activate so I think going through the web is preferrable, but it’s up to you.

Anyway, once you click “get”, the software will install. Once tha’ts done I open windows search and start typing in “messenger”. It will come up and you can work with it from there.

Unfortunately my office doesn't have control over how these get printed, so I doubt I can change that. I also don't have Kurzweil 1000 on my work computer; I just have Abbyy FineReader. I've tried to look for an option to disable column identification, but haven't found it.

I'm doubtful there is anything JAWS can do to make your document more
readable. It sounds as if whoever created the document was using Microsoft
Word to number the lines and when they saved it as a PDF file, the line
numbers were treated as a separate object from the text and placed at the
beginning of the created PDF instead of left next to their corresponding
text lines. I think you should talk to the creator of the documents and ask
them to try printing as PDF instead of saving or exporting as PDF to see if
that creates the desired results.

In my work, I frequently have to read transcripts of proceeding where each
of the lines is numbered. When I open a transcript like this in Adobe,
frequently all of the line numbers will be at the top of the page and I have
to keep arrowing down to get to the text. I know this is a unique problem,
but is there anything JAWS can do that will help with this? Right now it
takes me longer to read these documents than it should.

Hello All,

Recently my Hp computer died and I decided to put Windows on my MacBook using VmWare Fusion 11.5. For the most part, everything went smoothly except getting the function keys to behave normally in the Windows virtual machine.

So the question is how do I get the function keys to behave normally so that I can use JAWS as usual? Do I need to do this through VmWare or is there a setting in Windows?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

A small addition to your comprehensive discussion: an external synthesizer that does not rely on a soundcard is another option.

As far as I know this is not possible through one sound card audio settings although there may be mixer software that I am not aware of.
When I did some work for the RNIB years ago to solve this they provided a hardware kit, a splitter box which forced Jaws through one channel and allowed you to hear another sound input such as a telephone line through the other channel of a headset/microphone setup. This was quite efficient and I believe that this kit can still be purchased.
Jaws can be used with multiple sound cards, perhaps a USB as well as an on board sound card. In theory you could have 2 sound cards and using a splitter box force Jaws output into one channel and another card through the secondary channel with such a kit. Of course As a much cheaper Heath Robinson solution is to simply use 2 sets of tin ear earphones coming from 2 installed sound cards and simply put one earphone from each card in each ear to hear the output from both cards at once.
