I think one of the more recent updates to Office seemed to trigger this for me. Since I don’t’ use Skype, I think I found the icon on the system tray and found a setting in there to stop it. Hopefully someone else has more detail.

Re: Best Jaws version with Win 8.1

Hello Norma,
I’m not sure if you are aware but, these days if you are doing Zoom conferencing or any other form of online conferencing, you should make sure that Windows is up-to-date and the conferencing app/program you are using is up-to-date as well for security purposes.
I would highly recommend that you look into a new computer system if your Windows 8.1 cannot be updated.

Have you check to see if you have installed the updates for Office 365?
I would try these steps and get updated to properly see that JAWS 2020 is then still giving you the problems you are describing.

Hi,
All I have to go on is problems that occur when using J2020 do not occur when using 2019. They include:
Even more sluggishness in outlook 365, esp. when replying to a message
In Word 365, Jaws says “normal” when I arrow up and down through lines whether they have text or not. I spent an hour with a FS tech trying to resolve this issue and we finally ended up restoring J2020 factory settings. Major PITA. J2020 was OK for a few months, and now it’s happening again. So I need to use J2019 when working in Word.
There are other issues which I can’t recall now. And I know I’m not the only one who’s expressing frustration with J2020 problems.

The formatting stays the same when I copy a block of text from a page loaded in Internet Explorer into a Word document. However, when I copy a block of text from Firefox to Word I lose all formatting, including paragraphs. Is this just how it is or is there a trick or setting I can use to change this?

Re: Antivirus software.
Jason White
I don’t know about “most accessible”, as I haven’t been comparing security software for accessibility, but it is highly accessible.
Note also that Microsoft has strengthened Windows Defender over time. For example, in Windows 2004, there is now an option to block “potentially unwanted applications” that may not be malware as such, but which have effects that you probably don’t want or don’t intend. Another Windows 10 release (I can’t remember whether it was 1903 or 1909) added “tamper protection” to Windows Defender, which you also need to turn on in Windows Security.

I have however kept my old 1.7 version of Malwarebytes going and resisted program upgrade to maintain accessibility although I let the virus database keep up to date. Thank goodness I did. During the last week Malwarebytes identified a Trojan on my laptop that Windows Defender was completely oblivious of despite my performing a complete Windows Defender scan after the Malwarebytes alert. I turned to Windows Defender as Initially Malwarebytes was struggling and failing to quarantine this Trojan threat. On investigation it had infected one of the plug-in directories of Videoland VLC. Uninstalling VLC did not succeed in removing the offending files and predictably trying to delete these files manually also failed as Windows identified them as being used by another process. Eventually a full scan by Malwarebyte was able to remove this trojan from my registry in memory and I was finally able to also delete the offending VLC directories as a failsafe. What was more concerning was the fact that Windows Defender was completely unaware of this problem and failed to react. latest Outlook issue
Rick Mladek
Hello all,
When going through my inbox with outlook 2019 single key type and not 365, also Jaws 2019 due to Jaws 2020 being too troubled and latest Windows 10.
When in my inbox, having many emails to go through, I highlight the first, listen to the subject and if nothing I choose to listen to, I simply delete. The inbox then shows zero messages within until I arrow down and it then will read the next message. Before, it would automatically read the next message in succession for me to either delete again or read. I’ve not changed any settings.
Any ideas why this is listing my inbox as having zero messages within when it actually may have many? Then not recognizing the next until I arrow down to the next, then it will tell me how many messages within the inbox. Odd and hope someome can tell me what may need changed to correct this issue.
Thanks all,
Rick
