Hi,

Maybe someone else has seen this.

On a web page form, you will obviously have a number of different types of input, text boxes, combos, radio buttons etc.

One of these is a “textarea” which typically is used for entering something like a large query or something to be sent.

When tabbing through the various form controls, jaws will read out the labels associated with other input controls, but just says “edit” when it comes to the text area control.

If you tab away from it, and return to it after entering something, it just says “contains text”.

The label attached to it could say something like “please enter your query”.

If you come out of forms mode, and read the page normally, you will see the label text.

Has anyone seen this?

Any work arounds?

Hi Maria,

My problem is that I have to do the Windows plus semi-colon keystroke twice to bring up the emoji panel.

I’m glad I can access it, but it is a tad frustrating. Looking forward to having this issue resolved.

Best,

Norma

Hi All,

I’m running the latest public build of JAWS 2020 (2004.66), with the Windows 10 May, 2020 update (version 2004). Since updating to this latest Windows 10 update, when I access the Windows 10 Emoji panel with WINDOWS+SEMICOLON or WINDOWS+PERIOD, JAWS either stays silent or only says menu, and using arrows or tabbing only produces the same result. This has happened no matter where I have invoked it—Outlook, Word, Notepad, etc. I have ensured that my window is maximized, and my Microsoft 365 Personal is up-to-date. If I try with the latest NVDA or Narrator, the panel works without issue. I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? Hopefully, this may just be a timing issue with this JAWS build being released prior to the May, 2020 Windows 10 update if others are also experiencing, and hopefully, it might work again with the June update which will be released after this Windows 10 update.

Thanks for any inputs!

Regards,

Maria

Hi, Shirley. While your browser is open, press the JAWS key plus V for Quick Settings. In the search box, type the word refresh. You will see a result that says page refresh. Arrow to this result, and press ENTER. If your page refresh is set to automatic, try the space bar, and changing it to every 60 seconds. Then TAB to OK, and press ENTER. Robert, I use the Logitech K780.  It’s interesting you mentioned range.  That is the one thing I like about it besides it being fully functional with num pad. I’ve used it in different rooms and I would gage the distance between the keyboard and receiver is at least 20 feet. I’ve had no difficulty using it in other rooms even though the receiver is stationary. I can’t remember whether it takes AAA or AA batteries.  It also fits nicely into a back pack, when we were not doing this social distancing thing.

That is because the ctrl shift O takes you to the bookmark manager and not to the bookmark list.

Ann:

It’s interesting, though.

Whenever I access the bookmarks list in Google Chrome via shift control plus O, I can’t do first-letter navigation to get to my imported bookmarks list from Internet Explorer.

To do this, I have to do alt F, then B for bookmarks, and then I can use first-letter navigation to my Inernet Explorer bookmarks list.

Not sure why the difference.

Shift+ctrl+o should go directly to the bookmarks list.

It would be nice, if you could assign a shortcut key to it.

Internet explorer had its ctrl+a to get to the favourites menu.

Any of the chrome based browsers that I have tried, seem to use a number of key presses to get to their version of bookmarks.

I did a little research, and I couldn’t find an extension with a ctrl+a for example to let you right at it.

Perhaps someone will right one eventually.

I am sure other people would like a single key stroke as well, coming from ie.

alt plus F followed by B seems to be the easiest among the methods you suggest.

This is definitely one of those, "whatever works best for you, do it!," situations.  Glad to have helped.
