On a web page form, you will obviously have a number of different types of input, text boxes, combos, radio buttons etc.

One of these is a “textarea” which typically is used for entering something like a large query or something to be sent.

When tabbing through the various form controls, jaws will read out the labels associated with other input controls, but just says “edit” when it comes to the text area control.

If you tab away from it, and return to it after entering something, it just says “contains text”.

The label attached to it could say something like “please enter your query”.

If you come out of forms mode, and read the page normally, you will see the label text.

Has anyone seen this?

Any work arounds?

MalwareBytes should revert to the free version when the trial period runs out, unless something has changed a lot recently. I think this means that soe of the realtime features will be disabled, but you will still be able to run scans for malware, quarantine, etc. Do you no longer have access to the scan button and so on?

Is there a free version of MalwareBytes or another recommendation?

I have not done any accessibility testing with it, but I can also say that Zemana AntiMalware (free or paid) is no slouch, either.  Free download:  https://www.zemana.com/?ref=producthunt

There is a free version, and it sounds like that's precisely what you have.  It, by default, installs with a trial of the premium features enabled with the intent of this being a teaser to convince you to purchase.  When the trial runs out, Malwarebytes reverts to the free license and you no longer have those features.

You can check for yourself what the license status is in Malwarebytes so you know if you've reverted to the free license.  The word Free also appears on the main Malwarebytes screen if you're running the Free Version, and the Window Title itself will be Malwarebytes Free followed by the version number.

Hi,

The most reliable way I have found is to type in your user name and password on the login page for the site I want to do this for. Then press F6 to get to the Address bar. Then tab once or twice the the Save password button and spacebar this. Then tab to save.

My experience is that it doesn’t work for all the sites you try this for, often refusing for secure sites, but works often enough that it is worth the effort. It works for my BARD account but not for my bank account.

You can use F5 to open Go to and then enter in the cell number that you would like to go to.
Also CTRL + G does the same and enter in the cell number.

Hi,

Try with Microsoft Word shortcut key

CTRL+8 (show/hide all hidden symbols)

JAWS can read these marks and show on braille display. NVDA can not as far as I know.

It is quite easy to switch this option accidentally on when you wish to write ( (shft+8) and press ctrl instead of shift.

When I type anything in my word2016 and save the file.

When I open it with Jaws2020 the latest update, I can read the text but after each word I get the placemarkers speech and I see the placemarkers sign in my Braille display too.

When I close Jaws and start NVDA, AND OPEN THE SAME FILE, I don’t have any problem.

So my understanding is that the problem is only within Jaws.

Hi. Updated got windows 2004. Windows update. Got a intel display 2.6.1.735 driver, and when I do a windows update check, says retry, as I have a newer version of the driver, compared what to then trying to install the intel driver a lower version. So, do I just uinstall the device from device manager. And then click retry, then get the other updates. Have done feedback for Microsoft. Any one else had this issue. Just annoying, keep getting this message.

Any ideas. Got jaws 2020 home 64 bit, and also windows 10 2004 pro 64 bit from windows update. The install process was painless. About 90 minutes all up, able to use jaws, then use windows narrator for the last part. Then had jaws come up with all my settings, programs, etc.

Thanks.

Off hand, I cannot remember where those options are.
It could be under File, Options, Proofing/

Hi Ann & Adrian,

This is what I'm thinking, Jaws is saying, placemarkers, when they're actually paragraph or new line marks of some nature or, as Adrian mentioned, something Word is inserting, but Jaws is not reading correctly.  I'll have Moti turn off the new lines & paragraph option as Ann suggests to see if this'll take care of the problem.  Thank you very much for all of your help.

I've been using it for 2 semesters now.

Mike,

You may well have found an answer where none came to my mind. It may be worth pointing out that the placemarker referred to in the snippet are probably not JAWS placemarkers. they’re more likely MS Word’s own insertion points that enable a user to return to the same place after a file is closed. I think of them more as place holders, even though the terminology appears to be the same.

Maybe ask Moty if he inserts such points when he’s about to close a file. Then again, Word inserts them automatically, which is a nuisance when you reopen Word files because you must wait a second or two to start typing. If I forget, JAWS and Word get hung up and I have to reopen Word and sometimes also shut down JAWS.

That's the way I understand it as well, he's not inserting placemarkers, but it sounds like Word is inserting them when he saves the document.  Every search of done about placemarkers comes up with more about paragraph marks and page breaks than anything about stopping the automatic insertion of placemarkers.  Here's an example of a search I did on how to remove placemarkers from a Word document.

Featured snippet from the web
Word - Remove all table of authority markers
list of 5 items
1. Click the Show/Hide Paragraph Markers tool on the Home tab to show the Paragraph markers. (The rest of the directions will not work if this step is
not taken)
2. Press Ctrl+H to display the Find and Replace dialog box.
3. In the Find What box, enter ^19 TA.
4. Make sure that nothing is in the Replace With box.
5. Click Replace All.
list end

The way I read his message, he didn’t put in place markers, or did I miss something.

And, honestly, I have no idea.

I know about place markers on web sites, but not in word documents.

Someone who knows a heck of a lot more about Jaws idiosyncrasies will need to chime in here.
