I believe that:
[jfw] shows up in the subject of any message from this group. But it's been ages since I used the e-mail interface. But I know that the NVDA group uses [nvda] and Android Accessibility has [androidaccessibility]. It would only make sense that this group uses [jfw] in all its subjects when e-mail is sent. -- Brian - Windows 10 Pro, 64-Bit, Version 1909, Build 18363 The purpose of education is not to validate ignorance but to overcome it.

When filtering a list, one's intuition is to use the "from" filter, but I
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
learned a long time back that this was incorrect, and the way to filter out a list is to put it in the "to" field. So to filter this list, in the to field, put: main@jfw.groups.io and you can send all messages that were sent to this list to another folder. HTH. Glenn

Re: Word 365 Font, Line Spacing & Margins

Hi Robin,
Here's more clarification that's very interesting. This
comes from the article URL George B posted.
Now pay attention to the Line Spacing setting. Use the
drop-down list to choose Exactly, and then in the box to the right of the
drop-down list enter your
calculated line spacing of 25.9 points. You should also make sure that the Don't Add Space check box is clear if you put anything in the After box; if you set the After box to 0 then the Don't Add Space check box doesn't really matter. Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool. *My body has absorbed so much soap and disinfectant lately that when I pee it cleans the toilet.

Hi Robin,
In your last step it says; Tab to the checkbox that asks if you want space between each paragraph of the same type. Uncheck this box.
In Word 2010 it says; Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style, checkbox checked.
I left mine checked since it sounds like the wording has changed between Word 2010 and Word 365.
I'm only mentioning this in case others might get confused by the difference in the wording. Thanks again.

Others are sharing tips that all do play into lines per page. The biggest difference starting in Word 2010 and later Word is that Microsoft decided to make the default now include some extra visual spacing between each line that is not controlled by your typical single, double or 1.5 line spacing. We blind folks would have no way of knowing this has changed except for seeing that less content fits on a page and/or that one setting is different. If she is using the same font as in the past, I’ll bet that the real kicker for her is this new formatting, which is controlled in the paragraph settings. As someone noted, what she wants is the following: Here is how to fix it in the default.
Go into a document. If she needs to fix a current document, press Control A to select all in the document. Press the application key to open the context menu and arrow down to paragraph. A dialog box will open. Tab through till you hear the settings for “Before” and also “After”. In both of these edit boxes, type 0. Tab to the line spacing combo box and be sure it is set to Single. Then tab to the checkbox that asks if you want space between each paragraph of the same type. Uncheck this box. Tab to the button to “Set as default” and click it. Then tab to OK and hit that.
The same steps can be done in an empty document to set this to the default for your copy of Word.

My recommendation is to open a blank document. Press the applications key or shift+f10, and then the letter f for fonts. Pick the font she wants, tab to regular, then tab to size and if she wants 46 lines, 12 point will give her that with most fonts. Then either shift tab a bunch or continue tabbing a bunch to set as default and hit space bar, then a dialog comes up that is defaulting to this document only, tab twice to the radio button and arrow down once to for all documents based on the normal template and hit enter. She may need another enter on OK to get it to stick. For the Margins, press Alt+p which puts you on the Layout tab, arrow down once and Margin is the first item. Hit space on that and then she can either do a custom or arrow through and find 1 inch margins. And select that. One more thing I would do that probably means she will need to go back to Layout with Alt+p and down arrow, then tab to the settings for before Paragraph and after Paragraph and make sure they are both set to 0. Otherwise, you get odd extra spacing and sighted folks, at least my wife, are not happy.
I hope that helps,

Re: saving a message in a folder
Anna,
If you have not turned on Gmail's own keyboard shortcuts, definitely do so. That's discussed in, Use Gmail with a screen reader - Gmail Help. Gmail does not use the typical terminology of folder for their webmail interface, but instead calls them labels (and these are, behind the scenes, implemented as folders - don' task me why they ever chose to use the labels terminology). The end of the above noted page discusses the creation of labels and applying a label to a message or group of messages. If you know that there are certain messages, based on something like who's sent them, something in the subject field, etc., that you want in a specific folder (label) it makes much more sense to create filters in Gmail to handle this for you as messages come in. I created a tutorial dedicated to this, Creating IMAP Labels (Folders) and Filters for Gmail. Here are several more tutorials I've created that may prove useful to you at some point:
I am not certain what it is that you want to know about navigating conversation view (threaded messages) but it's touched on briefly in the Gmail help page I gave the link to earlier. I have not watched it, but there is a YouTube item that may prove to be helpful to you: Using the Online Gmail Client with NVDA - YouTube

If you hit enter again after being popped out of the field you will keep your place. I rarely have this issue but it seems to happen in web mail apps. As for saving emails to a folder there is a save function under the menu bar. After hitting enter on this you ought to save the email as if saving a regular file such as a document. And as for the arrowing popping you out of the subject it means that the cursor has moved beyond the field's limits. Hopes this helps. Vaughn

Re: Accessible System Backup Image software, (WAS) the latest update to jaws 2020 giving me a fit

Hello,
I agree that the ability to create a boot media has nothing to do with Jaws being able to read accessible check boxes.
If using a recent version of Jaws with Windows 10 and a version of Image for Windows that is a couple years old, the directions that I wrote in a prior post should assist you in seeing how the check boxes are checked.
Try looking in settings and hit the space bar on accessible check boxes. This should allow Jaws to see what is checked in some of the menus if you use the Jaws cursor.
However, in some parts of the menus, instead of a check box, you will only get a “plus sign” to let you know that something is checked.
Cheers,

I think it is what ever you get accustomed to using. Image for Windows did cost me around $40, but it has always worked to restore my hard drives.
You can use IFW to create a recovery disk that includes Narrator so you have a screen reader to use to restore your PC. That is an absolute necessity if Windows is so messed up that your PC won’t boot up in to Windows.
Since this recovery disk has to be bootable for disaster recovery, you would need to change your PC’s boot sequence in the BIOS. That requires eye sight but it is a one time change.
In my case, instead of getting someone to change my boot sequence in the BIOS, I use F11 and some additional key strokes to force Windows to boot up from the boot media which can be either a DVD or a thumb drive again, created with the IFW software.
Its been so long since I created the boot media that I do not have clear recollection as to how it was accomplished. The directions are in the IFW manual. I suspect that there are several members on these list who can provide you with the directions to create the boot media and provide directions on how to get a crippled PC to boot from the media if you do not want to get someone to change your boot sequence in your PC’s BIOS.
The best of luck,

Greetings,
I’m guessing that there is a typo in your response.
What do I need to run to tell when check boxes are checked?
And, in my Version of Image for Windows, something like V3... there is a check box in settings that is called accessible check boxes. You can check this to cause Jaws to see the state of the check boxes.
But, You will still have to use the Jaws/or equivalent cursor to tell that they are checked in some places in the menus. Also, in some places in the menus, you will see a PLUS SIGN instead of a checkbox for example, to indicate that a drive has been selected to be added to the back up process.
In my particular case, on all 3 of my laptops, I just hit the space bar to put a PLUS SIGN in front of my primary drive/C drive to do a full back up. IFW has never let me down with Windows 7 or Windows 10 and I have done recoveries on all 3.

Terabyte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite is 100% accessible beginning to end, including the recovery disk. There's an option to set in an INI file when building the recovery disk that will automatically start Narrator when said disk is booted. Works a treat, as they say.
The best of luck,
James B

Is that image for Windows a good solution? I am also searching for a good backup software.

Greetings,
I’m guessing that there is a typo in your response.

James B

Terabyte Drive Image Backup and Restore Suite is 100% accessible beginning to end, including the recovery disk. There's an option to set in an INI file when building the recovery disk that will automatically start Narrator when said disk is booted. Works a treat, as they say. Best fifty bucks you'll ever spend on your computer. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com

It's a Zoom Application keystroke, and will work, even if JAWS is not running. You might want to try it with Narrator.

Listers: Please remind me of the mute keystroke in Zoom. Is this a jaws keystroke or does it work even if jaws is not running?
