Hi Frank,
I’m pretty sure it’s Document Presentation Mode. Apologies in advance if I send you down the wrong path.

Hi all, there is a setting in JAWS that allows a person to read links on a web page left to right as they are viewed by a sighted person, instead of the normal up and down. It has been in for a few versions of JAWS. Can anyone think of the name of that feature? Thanks Frank Ventura

It could be fine if it's just a "mode" -- but if we don't really know what it is exactly, being cautious about turning it on seems reasonable. It's not great accessibilitly practice to create a separate scheme for screen reader users. On some websites I've seen in the past (thankfully not too recently, I don't think) this even means a whole differetn set of webpages -- that'sa bad thing because who knows if they are updated/maintained with the diligence of the "normal" site?

Usually if a website has a screen reader mode, I assume it's designed to make the site work better with a screen reader and enable it. I'd rather be told about the mode, because sometimes they also have extra help for using the website with a screen reader. I usually use NVDA, if that makes a difference. What problems does this cause for you? Would you rather it could autodetect your screen reader?

I have found it generally next to useless – more of a nag than truly functional.
My bank has this feature, but the site has evolved over time to be less and less accessible – making more use of frames and multiple tabs. It seems as if ‘screen reader mode” was a suggestion, but its actual development to be truly helpful has languished.

JAWS and creativity
Thabo Baseki <THAB0.BASEKI@...>
Hello friends!
There are certain tasks that I would like to perform on Microsoft publisher, however when I tried to use it with the JAWS, it seems a failure or a struggle. Is there a way of making it happen? If yes, how? If no, is there an alternative? I
would like to do things such as creating certificates, creating cards, banners, posters, and similar items.
Your helpful assistance is highly appreciated!

If you're referring to a single, specific message then I believe Bill White is correct: it's got something to do with large embedded or attached content.

Norma, Glad it worked. I don’t know that it works as consistently as I’d like and the label JAWS reads aloud for that box could be better. If you cannot get Alt A to work, try tabbing around the dialog a bit, then doing Alt A. This seems to help.
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Norma A. Boge
Hi Robin,
I had previously tried Alt A to get into the address field with no luck. But, I tried it just now and it did the trick. I don’t know what the problem was previously, with Office 365 and Jaws it could be any number of things. I am just so glad that you made the Alt A suggestion and it worked.
With much appreciation, Norma
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Van Lant, Robin via groups.io
Norma, I’m in JAWS 2020 with Office 365. It’s not operating as smoothly as I would like, but I’m able to read it. It seems like JAWS loses focus a bit and also sometimes read a bit extra. There is a shortcut key of Alt A to get to the text box where the address can be typed or appears if you hit the label option after selecting the text you wanted in your label. I’m not sure that I have a consistent work around and I’m heading into a meeting, but a quick answer is to use Alt A and either Insert tab or Insert up arrow to read the current line. It seems that if I type my address into the text field in the label dialog, I can hear as I type, but I am not consistently able to reread what I typed without navigating away, using Alt A, then one of the read line options. I’ll come back to this conversation later and see if I can help anymore later today.
From: main@jfw.groups.io <main@jfw.groups.io> On Behalf Of Brian Vogel
I also forgot to ask, what label template? I can try to play with this later today or this evening with JAWS and see what happens for me. It's helpful to know exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish and how you're going about doing it.
