moderated Re: searching my computer

Is this a network drive, as Chris suggested it might be, or is it a USB drive (whether flash or HDD or SSD), or is it a partition on one of the internal drives in your computer?

Windows search only searches indexed locations, and though you can set it to search non-indexed locations, believe me, you don't want to do that.  You need to open Control Panel, Indexing options and check to see what your indexed locations actually are a the moment.  If you wish to edit these to add or delete a drive, that drive has to be connected when you're attempting to do so.  Activate the Modify button, and at the top there is a grouping Change selected location that contains a list of locations with checkboxes next to them (and dropdown arrows to expand in case you only want to index some specific folder or folders in a drive).  Checking the checkbox for the drive you want to have searched will add it to the index.

You can add networked drives to the index, and that's well explained here:  https://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-10/add-network-folder-to-windows-search-index/

I had no problems using a MacOS or Windows browser and a screen reader
to get through the initial screens. The mobile version is not as good. I
found several unlabeled fields, and when it prompted me for my name, I
could not find that field. The only time I have tried actually
connecting with it is with the iPhone, where I could hear my doctor
muted, but they could not hear me and my iPhone claimed I was still
awaiting  the doctor. We ended up doing the session via FaceTime.

Yes  I am getting the same issue nowadays. NVDA  and Narrator both seems more solid

Also I am finding that Mail is sporadically crashing when Jaws is running but I cannot trace why this is.

To be  honest I mainly use Windows Mail for a quick trim of my inbox with the automatic preview reading but then rely on Outlook for actual sending and reading of mail in detail.

Hello,

Recently, I’ve been experiencing a weird problem with Windows mail and JAWS. It’s now hit or miss as to whether JAWS will read e-mails as they’re open, bring up the thing where it says “mail start groups navigation” and a whole bunch of stuff, open the message but make it appear blank, or just crash. If I’m not making se4nse here, it doesn’t make sense to me either. However, I’m just wondering if any of you have had this issue? It’s been going on for me for quite some time but can’t really pin it on when my computer was taken into the shop for servicing/updates, and that was before I started my winter semester this year.

Thank you,

Ashleigh Piccinino

P.S. another happening with JAWS and the mail app is that I can’t reach any attachments with tabbing as JAWS just crashes. Everything’s on the latest updates, so …

If its a physical drive then you should be able to add it under indexing options so it can be searched

Hi, about 3 weeks ago I asked for assistance on how to search my computer

with Jaws and windows 10.  I got great responses but,I can't seem to get the

information I need to successfully findfiles and or, contents of a file

within my computer.  I have tried multiple times and got more

informationfrom the Web than anything else.  I heard an option once Jaws

saying (on this computer)) but not hearing this ever again.  The information

I place for search is definitely on my G drive so it should find it.  I was

told that the windows key and S was to searchthe whole computer and others

mentioned windows and the e key.  What on earth am I doing incorrectly??  I

am sorry for re-posting this but I tried many times over the last few weeks.

Hi,

Changed significantly in Edge 81 due to introduction of profiles and profile sync:

  1. Open Edge settings (Edge menu (Alt+F)/Settings).
  2. Press Escape to exit forms mode.
  3. Go to top of the settings page and activate Settings menu button.
  4. Press Tab to go to Settings categories list.
  5. Select On startup (you need to press Enter to activate it).
  6. Press Tab until you land on “on startup” radio buttons.
  7. Rest are same as Edge 79 and 80.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi,

You won’t find some settings easily, I’m afraid, partly because Edge 81 is based on Chromium so it’ll look similar to Chrome up to a point. The best way to find certain settings is searching for them – that’s also the recommended method to look for certain things in Settings app (Windows+I).

Joseph
