Re: What navigation key should I use for the any link key
Luke
Thanks to everyone who responded. For those who have never used NVDA, K is the any link key for that screenreader. I want to keep that key consistent so I am going to use Deans suggested idea. Plus, like he mentioned, you don’t need the P because you can just use control up or down to go through the paragraphs. And P for place marker is pretty handy too. Thanks Dean!

I did some switching: I turned place marker into P, then use K for Any Link. I don’t tend to use P for paragraph, as ctrl+down arrow works.

Hi! My first post here I have dabbled with JAWS before in which it seems a long time ago. Most of that previous info is gone. I have been a NVDA user for the last while. I’m taking advantage of the free download of JAWS so I can learn a second screenreader. I found it a little frustrating that if I wanted to skip through just links I potentially had to use 2 different buttons. I’m talking about the unvisited and visited buttons. So I did some googling and yay! I came across info about the anylink option. I am thinking I am going to make the anylink key the K button and move the place marker key to the J button but, what should I do with the jump to line command which is J at the moment? It seems all the letter navigation keys are taken. I could be wrong about that though. I don’t have any plans on using the jump to line feature at the moment so burying it somewhere doesn’t bother me that much. With speech on demand, JAWS should respond to the reading commands. I can use insert+up arrow to read the current line, insert+down arrow, and so on. What it does is to prevent automatic reading of things changing on the screen.

Hello, everyone.
I’m in the process of learning how to use Zoom with Jaws, and have a question that may seem elementary to some.
When in a Zoom meeting, Jaws lets me know as things are happening in the meeting, such as when new people join, who is raising their hand, etc..
This is great information to have; but I often don’t need it when attending or participating in a meeting, since I’m typically not the main meeting organizer.
I suppose I could mute my audio via Alt A, but then people won’t be able to hear me.
I also could turn Jaws off, but that seems a bit extreme.
Any suggestions for dealing with unwanted Jaws speech during a Zoom meeting would be appreciated.
I simply don’t want to distract other meeting attendees.
Thank you.

The tab key isn’t limited to links. It also takes you through some form controls. The back button should work the same in firefox and chrome. Use alt-left arrow if you are in the same window. Not positive but I think there is a way in preferences to force everything to open in the same window or tab. Maybe look around for that. Regarding Firefox, I was having a lot of problems with it this week. I don't know exactly what happened. It has two or three times now gone screwy before an update, which is very strange. Sometimes an update fixes the problem ... it did until recently, but yesterday I ended up refreshing the browser *again*, after having already done so before the update to no avail. Now firefox is good and snappy again using the latest update and an oldie JFW 2018. So maybe make sure you are up to date and, if you are still experiencing firefox flakiness, try a refresh -- you'll have to re-install your extensions though. The only one I had was uBlock origin -- jury's out on whether uBlock was actaully causing some of the issues I was having.

Re: Window coming up alongside UAC dialogue
JM Casey
Well, I wouldn’t. There are a few levels of uAC; I wouldn’t just say yes to whatever it asks, it’s good that it lets you know what programmes are attempting to do admin tasks and I’m certainly glad (after having disabled it for a time myself) that extra layer of security is there. User discretion is a good thing.
The 33% setting doesn’t seem to work with jAWS or nVDA in the sense that you can’t read what app is attempting to gain access. Weird. I have mine set to 66% (I think it is) and the difference isnt’ appreciable, and now I can read the uAC screen properly. Not sure about the “secure uap” window the OP mentions – have you tried a google search to see what this might be?

Why not just disable uac? It doesn't really do what it promises, and many people will just say yes to whatever they are asked anyway.
