moderated Re: Question about David Moore's Edge tutorial

David Moore

Hello all! Know that tutorial is for the old windows edge that came out with Windows 10 originally. I am working on a tutorial for the new chrome edge. The new chrome ads as a couple of bugs in organizing your favorites, and a couple places and settings. I am trying to find workarounds for these few places, and I will write a d tutorial once I find the workarounds. I am half done with the tutorial, but I am trying to find workarounds for three different things. Favorites, and a couple places in the settings. if you want, I can finish the tutorial right away, and get it to you without the work around. Have a great one guys, sorry I am just replying to this message. Things are pretty crazy around here, my wife wants to watch a lot of news, and I haven't had as much time to go through these messages. Have a great one guys, in Microsoft edge is almost there, but I would still suggest chrome over it in my opinion. Have a great one guys!

The one tutorial I found by David Moore on Edge is from 2017.

Is that applicable to the new Chrome based Edge?

Thanks,

Hi David, randomly changing settings is a feature of Windows 10, hahaha. I’ve had this happen and it is frustrating to say the least. It’s probably my biggest complaint about Win 10. Best, Norma

I thought I  would just post to say how I had resolved my VLC difficulty.

Some may recall last week that out of the blue VLC suddenly refused to play any media for me.

Altering   settings in VLC, including adjusting volume made no difference.

I therefore uninstalled and reinstalled VLC – still no difference.

I then had to install WinAmp to provide a replacement for the  last week.

Tonight I suddenly remembered that I had not checked the Windows Sound Mixer.

I typed sndvol after pressing the Windows key.

Sure enough when I came to the VLC slider  in the Windows Mixer I found that VLC had been set to 0%.

I changed this to 100%  and VLC suddenly blared back to life.

Quite what had happened in Windows to set VLC in the Sound Mixer to 0% is a complete mystery to me. I am the only person using this PC and I have been nowhere near the Windows Sound Mixer since last year.

Some errant electrons have obviously strayed where they should not stray.

Anyway I have VLC back working again and thought I would post this in case someone else encountered this or a similar issue.

David Griffith.

Huh! Is this really that new? I thought Facebook Messenger for Desktop had been around for some time? Funny coincidence if it’s new; I just decided to get it last week because of the audio call feature mostly.

And I’ve had the problem with sluggishness, which got worse when I went to Jaws 2020. Ah, to have all running perfectly like some on this list are fortunate to have. John,

Since 2020 came out, I have had horrible issues with many, if not most, Microsoft programs. Outlook is a constant issue and even Word and Excel has it’s issues. Outlook, however, is a daily struggle when issues as you have described, simply do not work any longer.

Hello:

This problem started around 2 weeks ago with one folder, but now seems to be  spreading to  the whole Outlook folder list.

Outlook is now reporting the wrong number of messages in a folder.

For example, when I am in the folder list and read the line:

In Box 3 messages

But when I go to the message  list it says zero items and there are no messages.

If I hit the JAWS key page down, it still says 3 messages.

Any ideas about what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Hey guys.

I recentlys tarted using messenger myself (assuming we’re talking about the facebook one). It is alright. I’d still rather use the simple mobile website layout for most things but it’s nice to see when you have messages when you’re not focused on and refreshing a browser window.

Apparently there is a settings button. I can’t seem to find this. I’m using JFW 2018 though and it doesn’t really work the best with these Universal apps. Although I am pretty sure I grabbed something from the Microsoft Store before using jFW, in order to grab messenger I had to switch to nVDA to activate the ‘get” button that I assume the person below me here is referring to.

The call feature seems nice … audio quality is inferior to Skype’s, but I guess that is ok.

I upgraded to Jaws 2020 on my Windows 10 computer with Office 365, but am finding it very sluggish and slow to open e-mails – any suggestions?

I also have to keep speeding Jaws up with control alt page-up. I have forgotten how to do this so it remembers.

Won't the keystroke, Alt + T, put you on the Toolbar / menu.  Or, how about pressint the, Alt key and right / left to, Tools, then down arrowing through your options.

Take care.  Mike.  Sent from my iBarstool.

Hi!

Is it possible? Even NVDA has a Toolbar Explorer addon and I guess I would need something like that in JAWS. Is there a way?

Did any one find out how to delete a message? That's the only thing that doesn't work for me in the new client.

I just minimize my outlook and go to Facebook, then into the messages part of Face Book. Easy and, for me at least efficient.  Yes, JAWS works fine with messenger or Face Book, it is just the browser that gives me problems.  Some are more informative then others.

This happens to me only when I go from one folder to another. Outlook 2016, latest JAWS, Win10.

My apologies, I just read the note too quickly; it says right there it is for Facebook!  Sorry about that.
