When you are copying or moving files and folders, use the JAWS command JAWS/INSERT KEY+num pad PGDN and JAWS will tell you how much time remains. In addition, by default, JAWS will tell you from time-to-time, in percentage terms how much of the copying or moving process has been completed. HTH Dave Durber

Help needed with a script for selecting next character

Hi All,
I've never done any scripting before, but I find I need a script to select and read next character in a terminal emulation program I use at work. I was able to find the jkm file associated with the application but I'm having trouble adding the keystroke. I know that shift+right arrow selects by characters, but I need to hear each character spoken as it is selected. Can anyone help with this? Feel free to contact me offlist. kimbersinbox1963@gmail.com Thanks, Kim

My system does report percentages during copying operations. Percentage reports can be heard by pressing insert-tab. This is true in XP, and has been true for many versions of JAWS, including the current one.

Re: E-mail announcements
David <davidwhitehead1957@...>
Hello there;
Hello list members. I have made a few changes to the creating a message filter in Microsoft Outlook 2010&2007 Hopefully, you can follow the steps a little easier, and I have removed a lot of the unnecessary text. here's how I create a message rule/filter in Microsoft outlook2010. First I create the folder, By doing the following; Ctrl+shift+e=create new folder. Now type in the name you wish to assign to the folder. Tab once you will hear; Folder contains: Mail and Post Items This is okay, no need to change, Now tab again, You will hear something like; Tree view, and then inbox, and all of the other folders are listed, So, I arrow up to personal folders, or, you could press the letter "p"=personal folders, And then tab to okay, press enter. So now you're folder is created. Next we need to assign a rule/filter to the newly created folder, By doing the following; 1, highlight a message which you wish to create a folder for, Example; One of the messages from this group. Email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:Email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> 2, press applications key, up arrow and enter on, Rules sub-menu, Or, you could right arrow to open. Another way to do this is: Press applications key, press the letter "s" And then press the letter "u", which will directly place you into the message wizard. Here you will see the following screen; Always Move Messages From: email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> Always Move Messages To: email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> > Create Rule... Manage Rules & Alerts... you now need to down arrow and enter on, create rule.... Note, as I indicated, if you use the shortcuts, the letter "s"&"u" no need to arrow anywhere, since you're in the message rule wizard. 3. you will now see a screen; Create Rule When I get e-mail with all of the selected conditions From email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> by default this box is unchecked you can check this box. When I get e-mail with all of the selected conditions Subject contains [email-clients-with-screen-readers] Outlook 2007, this box is unchecked by default I would leave this box as it is. When I get e-mail with all of the selected conditions Sent to email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> this box is unchecked by default you can check this box. Do the following Display in the New Item Alert window by default this box is unchecked, you can leave as is. Do the following:Play a selected sound: this box is unchecked by default, you can check this box, Browse... Here you could browse for a specific sound; Move the item to folder:this box is unchecked by default, however you need to check this box, Folder...press enter here, Now, you can arrow to the particular folder, Or, you can letter navigate, Then tab okay, press enter. OK Cancel Advanced Options... now you need to tab and enter on, Advanced options... 4. You will see the following screen; Rules Wizard Which condition's do you want to check? Step 1: Select condition's checked on this computer only checked from email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> > not checked with RE: [email-clients-with-screen-readers] Outlook 2007,... in the subject checked sent to email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> > not checked with RE: [email-clients-with-screen-readers] Outlook...in the subject or body not checked through the specified account not checked sent only to me where my name is in the To box not checked not checked marked as importance not checked marked as sensitivity not checked flagged for action not checked where my name is in the Cc box not checked where my name is in the To or Cc box not checked where my name is not in the To box not checked with specific words in the body not checked with specific words in the message header not checked with specific words in the recipient's address not checked with specific words in the sender's address Step 2: Edit the rule description (click an underlined value) Apply this rule after the message arrives from email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> and sent to email-clients-with-screen-readers@yahoogroups.com <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> <mailto:email-clients-with-screen-readers%40yahoogroups.com> and on this computer only play Windows Notify.wav and move it to the email-clients-with-screen-readers folder and stop processing more rules Cancel < Back Next > Finish This screen is fine, Just tab next and press enter. 5. now you will see the following screen; Rules Wizard What do you want to do with the message? Control-shift-f for find a message. 2. Tab once, arrow down once, then shift-tab once. These three actions put focus in an edit field. 3. Type the search string exactly as you expect it to appear in a message and press enter. 4. When JAWS stops verbalizing "Stop" and switches to "Find now button," press the spacebar. (this step also applies to the procedures you outlined. I find it stabilizes the rest of the operation.) 5. Follow the procedures you outline for navigating the list of relevant messages and reading them. Note. As we learned from Ed Marquette, once in a message, use F4 to find the search string. -----Original Message----- From: jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com [mailto:jfw-bounces@lists.the-jdh.com] On Behalf Of David Sent: Sunday, February 12, 2012 7:32 AM To: 'The Jaws for Windows support list.' This is what I do in Outlook 2010. Now this tells you how to create a rule that will move a email to a folder and play a different sound for each email account. But I'm sure you can make it work for what you want. To create a rule that will move a email to a folder and play a notification sound do the following. Launch Outlook. Make sure the folder that you want to move emails to is created. Go to your inbox and put the focus on a email that you want to create the rule for. Go to the home tab and arrow down to move and then right arrow to the sub menu option rules button drop down. Press enter. You will hear always move emails from, who ever the email was from. Tab down to create rule and press space bar. You will next hear move email that meet the following criteria check box not checked. Don't check anything just tab down to do the following play a sound and check this by pressing the space bar. Outlook may or may not open the dialog box to select what wav file you want to play for new email notification. If Outlook does not open the dialog box Tab once to the do what play button and press the space bar to hear if it is the sound you want. If it's not tab down twice and press the space bar on the browse button. In the open dialog box that opens select the wav file that you want to play and press enter for OK. Tab down to do what move to folder and press space bar to check this. Outlook may or may not open the dialog panel where you can arrow up and down to select the folder you want to move the emails to. Press enter for OK after you select the correct folder. If Outlook does not open the dialog box Tab down to the brows button and press space bar. In the dialog box that opens arrow up and down until you hear the folder you want the email to go to and then press space bar for OK. Tab down to advanced and press space bar. This will open the rules wizard. In the first step that you hear if anything is heard to be checked like "On this computer only" press space bar to uncheck this. Down arrow to you hear from what ever your emails are coming from important to remember to press the space bar and check this. Tab down to the next button and press the space bar. On the next panel you will hear what do you want to do. In step one press the down arrow until you hear move to folder. Tab down once and then arrow down until you hear the folder you selected earlier. Tab down to next and press space bar. Ignore the exceptions panel that you hear next and tab down to next and press space bar. On the next panel enter a name for this rule. Tab down to finish and press space bar Dondi
