Heya. Nope, no luck with jaws cursor at all and I’m one of those people on Windows 10 who can still use it for a lot of things. Only was able to get some additional info using touch cursor. It wasn’t too nice though…not recommending. Mind you, JAWS now has the scan cursor also to take the place of jaws cursor in certain instances. I don’t have JFW 2020 so, maybe someone could get better results with that.

What I’d like to be able to do with Jaws and Vlc, is to see how long the audio is, how much time remains, like with the competitor’s.

As far as I am aware I don’t have any problem accessing preferences in VLC with either Jaws or NVDA. I just hit control P and tab through the  options.

It may be that there are parts I am missing that I  am not aware of though? What is the problem for you?

I have resisted upgrading to the absolutely latest version  of VLC I am still on 3.0.7.1.

I am glad others are still having a good experience with WinAmp. For me on several Windows installs on both my Desktop and Laptop I was experiencing lockup and crashes apart from the problem not playing some modern radio streams which VLC seemed to have no problem with. This experience made me personally think it was time to move on to something that was still being developed and supported.

nVDA still won't read preferences etc though for me. Does it work for you? Otherwise, yeah  there is certainly more feedback for status and things like that.

I have no trouble with Winamp and the latest build of windows 10, and I use it for audio -- but I play a lot of vieos and VLC is hands down the best player I have found for that. There's a lot of power under the hood and really I've only scratched the surface.

There are masses of keystroke  which work with VLC - in particular I love the ability to speed up and slow down podcasts on the fly but I agree that there is a big gap for scripts  providing information.

I have looked in vain for VLC scripts.

As a guide to  what could be done you only have to load the NVDA VLC addon which completely transforms VLC information feedback. For example or all the information you require you only have to press the I key.

Often I quit Jaws when I am going to be using VLC as the experience is so much better supported.

to given that WinAmp is increasingly unsupported and to some extent obsolete, I moved to VLC as WinAmp kept on crashing under Windows 10,  and failed to play some streams that VLC had no problem with, it seems utterly bizarre that Jaws provides no support for VLC at all.

Seems to me that Vlc with Jaws isn’t that accessible? I did a Jaws+h command, but I didn’t get any kind of help info. Can you with Jaws and Vlc, see how long the audio is, how much time Elapsed and other info, maybe with Jaws scripts? Thanks for experiences you guys might have with this combo.

By any chance, when you arrow across the line of words that are run together, does JAWS say space marker between one word and the next?  If so, just press alt+8.

It is really random.

Hey.

So from what youv’e said, the spaces are not actually there – JAWS isn’t “leaving them out” you have to go back and insert them.

What makes you think this is related to JAWS? Are you not experiencing the same typing glitch with Narrator or NVDA?

Because if this was happening to me the first thing that would probably cross my mind is that my keyboard is faulty.

Hello list members,

For the last  week or so, when I am typing an email, or document in word, (using JAWS , there are frequent instances in which the space between words is left out, and so I have to go back through the document/message and insert the space.

FYI: I am using JAWS 2020, though this was happening with JAWS 2019 as well.

Is there a setting that I can add or change to reduce the occurrence of this Issue. This is really frustrating!

try cleaning the space bar out with some alcohol. that is if you can find some. grin. or try another keyboard.
if a laptop you could try a u s b or wireless keyboard. maybe you know someone that will let you try theres for awhile.

When I add a script to My Extensions I do it manually because other info regarding the script needs to be added as well, then I put the whole file into the default and compile.  I can't explain this very well, but I'll send this message to someone that can.  In the meantime there's a download link below for 2 tutorials regarding the My Extensions & scripts.

Hi,

How do I get the Delete key to say “Delete?”

Second, When I put a script in MyExtensions.jss, then compile, then compile the default.jss (since it calls MyExtensions.jsb,) the script doesn’t work.

If I put it directly in Outlook script file, it does.

Other scripts in MyExtensions work, but some don’t.

I’ve made sure the keystroke isn’t being used elsewhere, but still no go.

Any ideas?

Voice Activated Remote control

There are likely more, but you could also search for blind technology lists and maybe find more generic technology lists.

I have never distributed my Speak On material through this list before but given the recent interest here in using Speak On as an option as an accessible eBook Reader and Podcast Reader I thought that I should do so just this once.

There is a Speak On Mailing list where both I and Isaac the program developer reside with others which may, in future, be more appropriate for more detailed

discussion of Speak On.

Details below.

I finished the Podcast on using Speak On as a Podcast reader yesterday and the link to this is also provided below. I think it is OK though I have not

listened all the way through.

The Podcasts are being distributed by talking Computers on a monthly basis and will be eventually hosted also on the Speak On Web Site. However, especially

at the moment I have no problem with any others linking through their websites etc so that as many as possible enjoy Speak On now in what are difficult times.

First is a link to the most recent Podcast and then the full list.

This Podcast covers searching for a Podcast, subscribing to a Podcast by adding to Favorites, downloading Podcast, and browsing the Category Online directory

Service. As part of this it show how Speak On acts as a virtual BBC Sounds app. It also covers importing OPML files from another Podcast Reader and briefly

Hi, Gerardo. To that key combo, add the Windows key. thus: JAWS+windows key+F4. But I’m finding it doesn’t work as smoothly in 2020 as it used to. One thing several of us noticed is that pressing control+Windows key+enter, which brings up Narrator, also brings JAWS back when it stops working. It’s fast. then, of course, you’ll need to press the same key combo to close Narrator.

I seem to remember years ago, there was a keystroke one would press for shutting down Jaws, and restarting it again, without having to unload via Jaws+f4, and reload it via the Alt+Control+j command? Is this keystroke still available, and what might it be? Thanks for refreshing my memory.

In terms of scripts, they’re already included in Jaws 2019, and 2020. IN terms of instructions, take a look at Jonathan Mosen’s “Meet me Accessibly” which he recently made available for free over at http://www.mosen.org/zoom

Asunto: JAWS with Zoom Meeting?

Hello All,

On Monday I need to be on a Zoom meeting.  I have a good microphone and have used Zoom in the past.  I need to “train” one other person who has never used ?Zoom.

Are there any Zoom scripts or JAWS instructions?  Any suggestions are much appreciated.
