You can, yes, although virtual buffer in JAWS for instance is supposed to circumvent this and usually does, but of course copying that way, you lose formatting and other stuff. Good enough for me to get away with it sometimes, though.

That could potentially be simply because the website doesn't let you copy anything. I am not a web developer, but I believe you can make it so copying just doesn't work.

I agree, this step will solve most problems copying passages from webpages while using Chrome. However, I have encountered several websites where I can't copy anything while using chrome. The Washington Post comes to mind, as does the Guardian. I can select text, but nothing happens when I press control-c. In the applications menu, "copy" is greyed out. In these cases, I have to open the same page in another browser, usually IE11, and make the copy there.

A fast way to get to the "copy" option in the JAWS quick settings menu is to type "copy" in the edit field when settings opens.

Hi there. If you are in Chrome, you will want to change the following setting. Press Insert plus V to access the Chrome Quick Settings. In the search box, type copy. Use the arrow key to find the option that says copy find the options. If it is set to copy content from screen, hit your spacebar once. The option will change to copy from virtual cursor. Use the tab key to move to the OK button and press enter. See if this resolves your issue. Good luck!

I have the same issue with Firefox.
Think this is a known design flaw with jaws, which they have not been
able to fix.
Would suggest calling support to see if they can provide any help.

 For years, I have used the QCast program to download or play podcasts, but although I was able to install and even activate it, it either won't download podcast episodes or in many cases won't even add the podcast at all.


Anyone have any suggestions or a suggestion for other programs?

Are you uninstalling and reinstalling the same Firefox executable? You may have a corrupted file. Go to Firefox site and get a new download. Save the executable, disconnect from the internet by removing the plug from your modem, install Firefox and turn off automatic updates then plug in your internet.

i don't know now.
for awhile the 64bit version would not even work with jaws 2020. i could not
turn the virtual cursor on. Links still worked but that was all. Wen it
reverted to the 32 bit version jaws started working.
i installed firefox 64bit several times and every time it did a update it
reverted me back to the 32 bit version. I have windows 7 64bit and windows 10
64 bit.
in both cases i was reverted back to the 32 bit version when it updated.
i have benn able to use the 64bit of the portable version so far.

are you useing the 32 or 64bit version of firefox?
the 64bit is more unstable then the 32bit version.
even with jaws i had to go back to the 32bit version.

differently.
there is control shift b, this one closes the list as soon as you press
escape. alt b. this one does not show all the bookmark links.
control i opens the entire list of links and you have the option to search
the entire list. it stays opened until you close it again with control i.
but as i said both jaws and window eyes will hang when you open the bookmark
list unless you turn off the virtual cursor first. or browse mode for window
eyes.

list and will hang again when you press f6 to put focus back on the list.

make sure the bookmark list is closed. this hangs firefox when you open it
with the virtual cursor on.

the problem is this will not do a clean install.
some of the settings are retained and not erased.
have you tried a factory reset? the problem is this will also erase your
bookmarks and passwords and screen colors if you changed them.
but you hold down the shift key when you click on the desktop icon. this will
bring up some options to try running it with add ons disabled.
or resetting firefox back to the factory defaults.

make sure the bookmark list is closed. this hangs firefox when you open it with the virtual cursor on.
have you tried n v d a? it seems to work better without hanging it.

the problem is this will not do a clean install.
some of the settings are retained and not erased.
have you tried a factory reset? the problem is this will also erase your
bookmarks and passwords and screen colors if you changed them.
but you hold down the shift key when you click on the desktop icon. this will
bring up some options to try running it with add ons disabled.
or resetting firefox back to the factory defaults.

I actually go through an ethernet connection which has its main
point at the headquarters of the apartment complex where I live. In
fact, I unplugged the cable I have from the ethernet connection on
the back of my computer, and I still get the same "Firefox is not

i don't know now.
for awhile the 64bit version would not even work with jaws 2020. i could not turn the virtual cursor on. Links still worked but that was all. Wen it reverted to the 32 bit version jaws started working.
i installed firefox 64bit several times and every time it did a update it reverted me back to the 32 bit version. I have windows 7 64bit and windows 10 64 bit.
in both cases i was reverted back to the 32 bit version when it updated.
i have benn able to use the 64bit of the portable version so far.

are you useing the 32 or 64bit version of firefox?
the 64bit is more unstable then the 32bit version.
even with jaws i had to go back to the 32bit version.
it has been this way for years. even though i have the 64bit version of

point at the headquarters of the apartment complex where I live. In

a few modems have a button you can press to disconnect from the net too.

the problem is this will not do a clean install.
some of the settings are retained and not erased.
have you tried a factory reset? the problem is this will also erase your bookmarks and passwords and screen colors if you changed them.
but you hold down the shift key when you click on the desktop icon. this will bring up some options to try running it with add ons disabled.
or resetting firefox back to the factory defaults.

works differently.
there is control shift b, this one closes the list as soon as you
press escape. alt b. this one does not show all the bookmark links.
control i opens the entire list of links and you have the option to
search the entire list. it stays opened until you close it again
with
control i.
but as i said both jaws and window eyes will hang when you open the
bookmark list unless you turn off the virtual cursor first. or
browse mode for window eyes.
also the virtual cursor will turn back on every time you leave the
bookmark list and will hang again when you press f6 to put focus
back on
the list.

I don't have any problem using Winamp on Windows 10, but someone mentioned about the VLC addon for NVDA, and in my case, it would be nice to have an alternative, just in case Winamp gets wonky.

nVDA still won't read preferences etc though for me. Does it work for you? Otherwise, yeah there is certainly more feedback for status and things like that.

I have no trouble with Winamp and the latest build of windows 10, and I use it for audio -- but I play a lot of vieos and VLC is hands down the best player I have found for that. There's a lot of power under the hood and really I've only scratched the surface.

There are masses of keystroke which work with VLC - in particular I love the ability to speed up and slow down podcasts on the fly but I agree that there is a big gap for scripts providing information.

I have looked in vain for VLC scripts.

As a guide to what could be done you only have to load the NVDA VLC addon which completely transforms VLC information feedback. For example or all the information you require you only have to press the I key.

Often I quit Jaws when I am going to be using VLC as the experience is so much better supported.

to given that WinAmp is increasingly unsupported and to some extent obsolete, I moved to VLC as WinAmp kept on crashing under Windows 10, and failed to play some streams that VLC had no problem with, it seems utterly bizarre that Jaws provides no support for VLC at all.

I actually go through an ethernet connection which has its main
point at the headquarters of the apartment complex where I live. In
fact, I unplugged the cable I have from the ethernet connection on
the back of my computer, and I still get the same "Firefox is not
responding", and it just hangs there with my whole machine frozen until I exit Firefox.
What's up with that, I wonder?

by unplugging the modem if you don't have it on a power strip.
a few modems have a button you can press to disconnect from the net too.
but you have to do this right after firefox has been installed.

did you turn off the internet connection as soon as you re installed it?
if you don't it will upgrade you as soon as you open it.
you have to leeve your internet connection off until you turn off
automatic updates and i also turn off the background services i
think its called. this is in the same advanced settings area.

there is 3 different ways to get to the book mark list. each method
works differently.
there is control shift b, this one closes the list as soon as you
press escape. alt b. this one does not show all the bookmark links.
control i opens the entire list of links and you have the option to
search the entire list. it stays opened until you close it again with
control i.
but as i said both jaws and window eyes will hang when you open the
bookmark list unless you turn off the virtual cursor first. or browse
mode for window eyes.
also the virtual cursor will turn back on every time you leave the
bookmark list and will hang again when you press f6 to put focus back on
the list.
