Gerardo Corripio <gera1027@...>

Anyone of you guys have where I could download GoldWave scripts, for Goldwave 6.51, compatible with Jaws2020 version 2020.2003.13? and also a refresher on how to install them with Windows10 as Operating system?

I have found the hotkey settings, and I have got it to answer with shift+Ctrl+a and hang up with shift+ctrl+f.

I would like to be able to get to the call history and queue settings a bit easier.

I am going to try Hotspot clicker and see if I can get that to work.

We probably use the same UCX client.  I know some of the “helps” in it as I have played around in it.  The one thing I can’t figure out is how to answer a phone call.  If I am in the right place in the program when it rings, It sometimes works, but if I’m in another program on my computer, it doesn’t.  Our Help desk has contacted the company and scowered their web site, not found any hot keys that are consistent for using it.

When I was trained on it, the trainer didn’t know and didn’t seem very proactive about discovering them.  So, your idea is a good one.

Feel free to reach out privately to me if you’d like to talk about this further.  I’d also love to find good solutions, because we are also working from home using it.  My email is jredlichspeaks@...

Hello group, I just joined yesterday.

I am working from home for the next 4 weeks due to Covid19, and my laptop has the 3cx client on it, which is not very accessible.

I am looking at doing a course on writing JAWS scripts, as I already have a diploma in software development.

But I was wondering if there is something already out there to get me up and running now.

Subject: Re: Getting out of the menu in docs

You guys,
I just cannot get google docs to work for me.
It won’t just read the text that is in my document. This is beyond frustrating as MS Word that I am used to, is refusing to open so really been trying to use google just for now at least to turn things in that are due immediately. But I just can’t get it to work. And emailing and responding back and forth, while helpful just isn’t working, I am just more frustrated than ever. If anyone is able to call and walk me through, I would sooo appreciate it!
I just don’t know what to do and I really need to edit and send in these documents...

moderated Jaws2020 and Windows10 Mail?

Gerardo Corripio <gera1027@...>

Gerardo (Gera) from Mexico saying hello, and am very loking forward to learning all I can about Jaws! It’s been years since I’ve used it! Thus I’m too trying to refresh myself on overall functioning of the screen reader. I’m trying out the 3-month license that FS put out a few days ago to help with the Covid19, and I’m very impressed how it works with Windows10 in general! I’m using Jaws versión 2020.2003.13.

However with Windows10 Mail it’s a disaster! When reading Emails, focus seems to loos itself! Having to with f6, go back to the Email itself! Also while typing Emails, I hear a constant buzzing sound, which I imagine it’s the spelling detection? How does one turn that off?

Thanks for any info; this is so frustrating!

Subject: Converting audio filesto MP3 using Itunes

Hello to all,

Thanks to those list members who responded to my recent post regarding converting audio files to MP format. A number of programs were recommended and I am in the process of reviewing 2-3 of these.

I realized after posting my message that my music library is in Itunes: a program that I can also use for file conversion. I have identified an article outlining the specific steps in the file conversion process. I would like to make sure that I complete this process correctly and successfully so would like to make contact with a person on this list who is familiar with this Itunes feature and review the steps with them in order to complete this process independently.

I would appreciate any assistance.

Best, Justin

The one good thing about David Pinto is that he makes this program fun and rewarding in its own way. He spends thousands of hours perfecting his scripts, and will provide help and documentation for his work. And most important, he’ll make it work with Jaws, not no silly animation such as Talking Typing Teacher.

Certainly agree with your principle Glenn … though I am not sure it’s always entirely wrong to profit from a niche market like  the disabled, certainly the entire model should be different and it’s ridiculous that the costs for some of these blindness-related products is so inflated.

I don’t know anything about typing tutorials nowadays, but I certainly remember some on disk for the Apple II computer. In the mid/late 80s when I was using the things, they were already old and I think most software was already in the public domain or close to. There were a few fun typing games … one that was kind of like space invaders and made use of the limited Apple speaker sound capability as well as the Echo speech synthesiser, whose pitch would increase as the letters got “closer” to you. Fun times. Haha

Honestly, typing is one of the most important skills lacking in the Blind.  Mostly among the newly Blind.

However, with that in mind, in my opinion, I would state that it is despicable to make profit off a typing program designed for the Blind.

I think makers of software for the Blind, or other disabilities if it exists, need to stop making a living off the backs of the disabled, and spearhead an open-source movement for specialized software for the disabled,  and get a real job.

It will always be a small market and the cost will always be ten to twenty times the cost to the consumer of similar software, to the general public because of its limited market.

That is why the rehabilitation-specific software that state agencies purchase cost a couple million dollars per agency and about a third of a million annually to maintain it, for a product that by standards of complexity could otherwise easily be done as open-source software.

I have a degree in business management, so it's not like I don't understand how business works.  And I find it even worse when the disabled themselves engage in profiting off their brothers and sisters, especially when they have or still do exist on a disability-related income.

But to my original point, there needs to be an open-source typing program designed for the Blind, because a good one would incorporate some screenreader keyboard commands, Fun With Typability does this, I don't recall if TTT does, it's been a long time since I taught with that one.  So they are decent products in terms of what is needed, they only need to be free to consumers.  Perhaps they should operate like some programs do, free for home use, and a cost for business use.

To be honest with you, I would have to agree. Talking Typing Teacher although it is very helpful for training, I find that The company that created the program isn’t helpful to its clients, and don’t let your system break down. You will have to perches the program again, meaning that you can only use it for the life of your hard drive. A lot of people don’t know this. You are allowed to download the software three times, but anything after three times you get no reset codes, and unless you buy directly from them they will not honor anyone buying outside of their company. Stores like Maxi aides or an on-line company that sell their product cannot make any decisions to reset your three activations.

Now, I’ve had dealings with the creator of the scripts, and decided to move my clients over to Fun with Typability, because it’s set up for the Jaws user.

They will work with you as well when it comes down to helpful hints and training methods.

This is a great program! Many people that I trained with it loved it over talking typing teacher. All  you get is if you sessions for free with the demo. After those sessions have been used, the program is not usable until you purchase a license.

If it's time critical, then spend the time to call in the experts, who are available to you at zero cost.   Asking questions here, while appropriate, is not the way to resolve this quickly.

And given the current goings on in the world, I have to believe that anyone asking for resumes will understand if there are delays.

I appreciate that. But at the moment I am solely focused on this resume that has to be turned in asap. I just need to be able to have JAWS read my document accurately and be able to edit it.

You guys,
I just cannot get google docs to work for me.

It also works with Safari on the Mac. I expect it’s designed to conform to Web standards and therefore works everywhere.

I just completed this with Google Chrome and it worked perfectly.

That is interesting as to my knowledge IE 11 was the last update, then going to Edge. They are behind the times for sure. Judy

Hello:

Has anyone completed the 2020 census on line at my2020census.gov?

At the top, it asks screen reader users to use the latest version of Internet Explorer and JAWS.  I wonder how secure IE is now.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Hello,

They have not discontinued the Platinum plan. I just updated my membership
on March 5. I went under my account and found a place to renew now. I got
24 credits for about $230.

Like I said I had to go under my account. I didn't look at any other sales
portions of the website.

Hello, does anyone know if Audible.com discontinued the gold or platinum
membership plan? It seems that it is not listed on their website... I only
find the $14.95 per month or one other plan for $12 or so monthly. Of
course, there are no customer reps there at this time. Thank you

Well, it does look like the Gold and Platnum plans are gone, but this is what it says on the page when I searched for Gold membership.

New! Audible members now get MORE

2 Audible Originals and 1 audiobook every month. Listen in the Audible app.
Audible is $14.95/mo. Cancel anytime.

Okay, thank you…I kept digging around Audible’s Web site and thought that I was just not finding the gold plan.  The plans were good especially if you got the 24 book plan that equaled $9.95 per book.  Andy and Shubert

I can only see one plan, period, at $14.95 per month for new subscribers.   They even note that there are no discounts for Amazon Prime members as far as Audible Membership goes, but there can be offers for free or deeply discounted items via Audible for Prime members only.

moderated Converting audio filesto MP3 using Itunes

Justin Mcdevitt
