Using JAWS 2020 and Windows 7, I only get a strange sound when trying to navigate with the touch curser.  How is the touch curser used?

Hi,

I’m using Backblaze to backup my computer.

I started a backup last night, and its still going now.

I’d like to know how to read the status, to see what’s going on.

It says, “pause backup” in the middle of my screen, but I’m sure there’s more info, that jaws just isn’t telling me.

Can someone tell me how to read this other info?

Thanks,

Jessica

Hi

Yes it does. On an unrelated note, how did you learn all of the braille commands, so that you could become Jaws certified?
Thanks,
Jessica

i don't think so. i think the installer has to go on the net to download the actual firefox program before it it installes it.
then as soon as it has finished disconnect from the net so it can't upgrade. then go to the advanced settings and turn off the check for updates and the option for the background services.option.

This is rather strange, since I can run it fine on this machine with Windows
XP, same version (52.6.0), but I can't seem to run it on my Windows 7
machine
since February 14 of this year. Before then, it was working fine. When I
reinstall it, it automatically tries updating to Firefox 60, and I don't
understand why, because I've turned off updates to Firefox. Has anyone else
had
this happen to them?

Jessica,

You can use the touch cursor, but you can also read information with the
jaws cursor.
Route the jawscursor to the pc cursor by pressing ins-minus sign.
Then with arrows over the screen.

Hi Jessica. Add the caps lock key to the shift button, and then press the semicolon key for the touch cursor. Shift plus the semicolon key activates the PC cursor, if the laptop lay-out is being used in JAWS. So you would need to press it twice quickly to turn off the touch cursor.

I agree.  Of course I don’t make those decisions.  Even venders give out samples and a lot of software or programs you can try it out for a week or a month and if you don’t like it, just cancel the service.

hmmm, this free license will only work till june 30 of 2020 but would be a good way to try jaws without a time limit, lol and decide if you wish to purchase a copy or not. they should do this from time to time to give people a chance to really try the software with no restrictions other than the tandum feature.

Not exactly sure what you're asking. Does your client already have a JAWS license that will soon expire and so wants to extend it to June 30? Or does your client want to try JAWS for free for the first time for three months before deciding to purchase a one-year license? Or perhaps your client is currently using an older version of JAWS and wants to upgrade to JAWS 2020, in which case he should visit the following page to activate the free license which will run until June 30, at which time he can purchase a full one-year license for $90:

If you already have a one-year JAWS license that will expire soon
and would like to extend it to June 30under the terms of the free offer, call FS at 800-444-4443and choose option 1, then option 3. Be sure to have your serial number ready and tell the agent that you would like to extend your license to June 30. The agent will update your authorization, and you will not need to visit the FS web site to obtain a new activation code. Once the agent has updated your authorization, go to the update activation dialog on the license submenu on the JAWS help menu, and go through each page to reactivate JAWS. I justdid this myself, and was able to extend my license expiration from May 6 to June 30. Hey, every little bit helps. All FS telephone agents are now working from home, so you should not have trouble getting through to someone.

to add my 2 cents to this discussion, the combination to permanently raise or lower the rate affects the overall speed (of everything), not just during a say all. sorry if this appears to be obvious to some, but just wanted to point that out.
