Re: Repairing JAWS 13

Dondi

Hi Cindy,

This is what I got from Freedom Scientific just last Wednesday. They
originally wanted me to do a repair of JAWS by starting up the JAWS install
program and when it came to a choice of repair, install or remove I was
suppose to choose repair. But I never got to this option of a repair the
install program would say I needed to uninstall the previous version of
JAWS.

It turns out when I installed JAWS 13 from the DVD and I went ahead and did
a update through JAWS it was the wrong thing to do. They said never do the
auto up date always down load the full install from their web site remove
JAWS and install from scratch. It appears when JAWS does a update only some
files are updated and not all.

Hello Cindy;
Go to the web site and download the latest jaws update version.
Then do an install,
Hopefully everything will work as it's suppose to.

Cindy,

It sounds as though you're trying to download with the JAWS update feature.
Many of us have encountered your problem. The solution is to ignore the
repair prompt and, instead, go to the FS website and download the update
from there.

I never got citrix to work with jaws. It was total nightmare from
beginning to end (when I gave up). Freedom Scientific was no help at
all.

I hope you have better luck than I did.

Re: Jaws and citric

Marquette, Ed <Ed.Marquette@...>

Well, I'm going from memory here, but here is what I recall.
You need to have JAWS running both on your home machine and on a server at work (not your work desktop, a server). So, you will need to get your IT professionals involved.
Second, be prepared for headaches by the score. Making it work became such a problem at my old firm that I had to switch to Window-Eyes. We spent hours on the phone with escalation at Freedom Scientific.
When I got to my new firm, our Web-based document management system didn't play nicely with Window-Eyes. Consequently, I switched back to JAWS.
While we were on Windows XP, we used a system called FireBox (that's FireBox, not FireFox). It allowed a remote connection for data, but all the processing was local. I think FireBox was a Citrix product. It just worked. No remote installation of JAWS was needed, and I didn't have to have our IT Department install and maintain a copy of JAWS on some server.
Now that we are on Windows 7, we don't have to load anything. IT IS WONDERFUL! The connection happens magically.
Right now, I'm at a convention in Las Vegas. I'm sending you this message in Outlook running on my local machine, but I'm simultaneously and transparently connected to the firm's Exchange Server.
So, my advice would be to check with your employer's IT Department. If you are running Windows 7, connecting remotely may be easier than you think, and avoiding Citrix is a consummation devoutly to be desired.

jaws double speaks in some text edit fields

Nickus de Vos <bigboy529@...>

Hi all, I'm using windows 7 with jaws 13. A week or so ago something
started happening on the internet in text edit fields, I don't know if
it happend after a update or if I changed some settings. If I type
something in to a text edit field e.g. in to google search, it repeats
what ever I typed twice and if I arrow through the typed word it again
each time reads the entire search term twice before reading the
letter. e.g. if I type jaws in to google search and tab down to the
search button it will say "jaws, Jaws" and if I arrow through the word
jaws in the text edit field, it would say jaws, jaws with each arrow
press and then only say the letter J A W S. Any ideas how to fix this
or what the problem is? It's very anoying.

Re: Jaws and citric

Soronel Haetir

You need to have a copy of jaws running on the remote system. And I've
found that I usually need to kill the auto started one -- without
assistive technology help -- and then start a new jaws process. You
also need the jaws remote access license option active on what will be
your client computer, that will run you an extra$200.

I've only done this with the windows remote desktop client though and
not citrix, so there may be issues specific to your setup that I am
unaware of.

Hi: Is anyone using jaws 13 with windows 7 ultimate 64 bit? Essentially, I'm
having some issues with word perfect and am thinking perhaps windows
ultimate 64 bit with jaws might be the problem. Any thoughts or experience
with this issue?

Louis,

This not being JAWS-related, might better be posted on a general support

Hi All,

I am using Gmail the HTML version and wonder if there is an easy way
to delete all e-mail in a particular mail box.

Thanks for any help!

Dave...

John,

Didn't you ask this question a week or so ago? Adrian gave you a link to a
compatibility list in his message:

Here's the link to WordPerfect's product compatibility page:

Subject: admin: 2nd reminder. 3rd time the list goes completely moderated.

Ladies and gentlemen;
This is the 2nd time in the span of a week I've seen off topic list mail,
witch has 0 to do with JAWS or it's operation, usability, etc.
Their are mailing lists particularly devoted to this particular type of
discussion, in particular, the one ran by us here at the-jdh.com, witch
you can subscribe to by sending a blank e-mail to
support-subscribe@lists.the-jdh.com
This list is great for discussing your favorite music service, how best to
install office, anything and everything that isn't JAWS related, including
speaker placement and how to clean your computers!
If you have a JAWS question, then it goes on this list here, wherein this
message is going.
This is the 2nd warning I've had to issue about this, and a 3rd warning
will result in the entire list being placed on moderated status for one
week.
We as the administration are pritty lenient when it comes to the mistaken
off topic messages, believe me, mistakes are made, but over the past
month's, I've seen more off topic messages than on, and it needs to stop,
and we need to get this list back on the topic of JAWS, and JAWS issues
alone and stop with the random hey my cat puked in my computer what do I
do messages.
I don' mean to come across as a hard ass, but until such time as this list
can once again self-moderate itself and stay on topic, I'm gonna be
extremely mindful and nail people for purposely posting off topic
messages.
When you write a message, consider the following.
*What issues does my message present that relate to JAWS?
*Would I call freedom scientific technical support for this if this list
didn't exist?
*Or am I posting a message that has nothing to do with JAWS just because
I'm not on any other list.
If the answer to your questions falls under points 1 and 2? go nuts..
However, if your question falls under point 3? Don't post it, that simple.
Thank you for your time.
Shane Davidson
list co-admin and moderator
