You can also use AIRA or Be My Eyes application on your mobile device and get live 
assistance from a live volunteer who can assist you with passing through the captcha.
Aira is paid and first five minutes of call with a live representative is free.
On the other hand Be My Eyes has volunteers and its completely free of cost.

I just read an article where the major browsers were compared with respect to what they track and all that and the new Edge actually came out the worst, Brave I think the best and Chrome in the middle and I think better than Firefox.

A couple of weeks ago I attended my first Ibug conference where participants are encouraged to ask questions and to provide support for one another with their iOS devices. I really liked the format of the conference but I wanted to see a similar opportunity covering topics from a Windows perspective.

I decided that I’d like to host such a conference and this will likely be the first in a series of free, online tech workshops, assuming there is enough interest in such a project.

The first of these workshops is titled, “JAWS, Just Because” and is scheduled for Friday, March 20 at 8:00 PM Eastern time. This conference will allow users of the JAWS screen reader to both ask questions as well as to provide answers to those who use the JAWS screen reader. No question is too basic or too esoteric and it should be stressed that there is no such thing as a stupid question.

For this conference I’m looking for two types of participants. First, anyone with a question regarding JAWS is, of course, welcome. Second, I’m hoping that those who are knowledgeable in the use of JAWS will also consider participating to share knowledge. Due to time constraints we won’t have time to provide lengthy support or to tandem into a user’s machine. Questions which require this type of intervention would best be addressed by Vispero’s technical support.

In order to keep the conference running smoothly I am going to adopt a similar policy which has been successfully used by iBug. Users who wish to ask a question or to provide a response should say their name, as in, “This is John.” At that point please wait to be acknowledged by the host, as in, “Go ahead, John.”

I have some other ideas for similar workshops but would like to hear some of yours so that I can determine the needs that you have as well as the level of interest. With many of us working from home are there specific applications or programs that you might want some assistance with? Programs that come to mind are Slack, Teams, etc. Would there be interest in similar workshops for NVDA users?

I would also like to invite other assistive technology trainers to write to me privately if you’re interested in assisting with any of these workshops. Many of you may have some ideas which I haven’t thought of and you surely have expertise with topics which I do not. I am unable to provide any type of compensation for any assistance you may choose to provide but the point of these workshops is to provide free assistance to those who may be spending more time at home doing work or completing other tasks. This can be a stressful time for many of us. Many kind and patient people assisted me when I was first learning about assistive technology and I just want to pay it forward and give something back to the blindness community, particularly during this time when the need for some tech help may be even greater

I have Outlook 2010, and there is an easy work-around to this issue.  Just highlight what you want to spell-check, then the F7 key works just fine and launches spell-check.  To make this easy, when you are at the bottom of your note, highlight what you wrote by using shift + home.  Otherwise, control + a selects everything.

 

I have reported this several times to JAWS, but they have never fixed it.

I agree, this step will solve most problems copying passages from webpages while using Chrome. However, I have encountered several websites where I can't copy anything while using chrome. The Washington Post comes to mind, as does the Guardian. I can select text, but nothing happens when I press control-c. In the applications menu, "copy" is greyed out. In these cases, I have to open the same page in another browser, usually IE11, and make the copy there.

A fast way to get to the "copy" option in the JAWS quick settings menu is to type "copy" in the edit field when settings opens.

Hi there. If you are in Chrome, you will want to change the following setting. Press Insert plus V to access the Chrome Quick Settings. In the search box, type copy. Use the arrow key to find the option that says copy find the options. If it is set to copy content from screen, hit your spacebar once. The option will change to copy from virtual cursor. Use the tab key to move to the OK button and press enter. See if this resolves your issue. Good luck!

I have the same issue with Firefox.
Think this is a known design flaw with jaws, which they have not been
able to fix.

If you have a smart phone, the Kindle app works fine with either Talkback on Android, or VoiceOver on an iPhone.

Or, search for Accessible Kindle for PC, and install it.

You will need to login with your Amazon account, or create one.

Sighted assistance is helpful for that login screen, as it does not read right with JAWS.

And, seriously, when that occurs loud complaints should be made to the entities in control of those websites.

It is insane to have people forced into using what is well known to be an insecure browser to enter credit card data.  It would not shock me, though I haven't checked, that it could very well be a violation of PCI compliance to allow IE use with credit card information.

Internet Explorer is not secure, period, and it is up to entities handling financially or otherwise sensitive information to get off their duffs and update their sites to use secure and modern browsers.

One can always use Windows Task Manager as well.   I still have not honed my skills on keeping focus with a screen reader in utilities like Resource Monitor or Task Manager where the display is dynamic and constantly changing as data updates on a second by second basis.  Stuff "jumps a lot" and I haven't perfected keeping up with the jumping nor working across the various columns.

As Dean posted, but it was below Alison's message.  Press, Insert + spacebar , then press the letter, Z, to run Jaws with its default settings, this is a toggle, so invoke the keystroke again to go back to your settings.

Don's know if there is an official way to do this, but this will work:
Unload Jaws first.

Go to your profile by pressing win+r and type:
shell:appdata

You will find here a freedomscientific folder.
Open this folder and go to the Jaws folder.
Here you will see foolders for the different jaws versions installed on
this computer. For example:
2019 or 2020.
Rename the folder of the jaws version you use.

Next time you start jaws a fresh profile is created.

Some websites won’t let the checkbox be checked until you enter the text they want. My challenge: even if I use the audible and hear the letters and/or numbers, I can’t always get them typed into the place where they should go.

I’m having trouble with trying to communicate with a business via email from their web site.  When it says “I’m not a robot checkbox not checked it will not allow me to check that to let them know I’m not a robot.  I’ve tried pressing the space bar and I’ve tried pressing enter to no avail.  Is there another way to get that checked to say “I’m not a robot checkbox checked?

When you find the executable file for the program you want to have a shortcut to on the desktop, right click, or press shift+f10, or the application key; then arrow to Send, press the right arrow and then down arrow to desktop and hit enter.  Make sure you don’t choose send with transfer, but the one that just says send.
