Since I switched to windows 7 about a year ago, I have had no regrets. I think it is much easier to navigate and find things with the new interface; though many things are very similar to XP. The only other advice I have is that if you use a Braille display not made by FS, you should get the 32 bit version of windows 7 to make sure the display works.

The thing to be concerned about with XP isn't from an accessibility
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
standpoint, but the fact Microsoft won't actually support it in 3 years, and there's no guarantee Freedom Scientific will either. So, you'd just be upgrading the OS at that time anyway. There's no real major obsticles to Windows 7 with JAWS, and most of the major programs, even a few older versions of those programs, will work on 7. Case in point, this reply is being written on a Windows 7 laptop running Office 2003 and JAWS 12. Your only problem is going to be older hardware, but since you're getting a new laptop anyway, I wouldn't much worry about that. James, List Admin

I've been using 7 for almost a year and don't really notice many differences between it and Vista. I really like it aside from a few things I wish I could find out how to do. And, this is said from the lady that came into Windows from Unix kicking and screaming. LOL I think you'd be OK with 7 unless you use a lot of old programs that aren't compatible with it. I've only found one that I couldn't find a good replacement yet for. Good luck and email me privately if you need or want any help. Lisa D Porter lisaporter429@yahoo.com
