Hello,

Previously, both chrome and IE were displaying facebook messenger
pages absolutely fine with jaws. However recently, when I log in, I
don't see what would be considered the top half of the screen (the
search box, the settings menu etc), and jaws doesn't read out the
names of the people in my recent messages list.
Does anybody have an idea why this would be/how I can fix it?

Hank,
Maybe someone has already answered this, but you are already connected to the Internet when you boot up the computer, so you don't need to enter any of that into your browser.

Hello back Dave and everyone,

First of all, thanks very much for all your very helpful replys to my firefox questions. So I don’t need to create an account in firefox when I first start using it after I get a newer version of Jaws to be able to successfully use it?

I am also wondering once I have installed firefox, what are the menu steps I need to do to enter my internet provider user id and password info so I can successfully access the internet when I start firefox each time to do things on the internet? Thanks very much in advance for any help I can maybe get with this.

Hi Dave,
I cannot comment on NVDA, although I use NVDA, it isn't my primary
screenreader.
Both work well with Jaws, someone recently reported something odd with Libra
and Jaws, but I don't recall the issue.

No - JAWS OCR will not be able to read a .DBF because it is a database
file - You would need to use a DBF viewer but that may not be accessible.

FYI - a DBF holds more than textual information - Data is stored within
the
file in an array with multiple records and fields.

I don't think Sherry knows that a DBF file stands for Data Base Format
which
holds tectual information. it isn't graphical nore is it a document, so
JAWS's OCR won't work to read it.

1. Open the document and wait for it to process.

2. Press insert spacebar. Afterward press O for COR.

3. Press D for document. Jaws will say, document OCR started. Wait for it
to
finish and it will automatically start reading.

That’s just a webpage. Hit ctrl-l to go to another page, and go to preferences and assign your own default homepage, and you won’t see that again – unless the sign up option is on the toolbar somewhere and I can’t remember. In any case, you shouldn’t have to worry about bypassing it…

I don’t know where this idea that you need to set up an account with Mozilla to use Firefox came from. Yes, the Mozilla Firefox default webpage that loads when you first start the programme offers you the opportunity to create a mozilla account and lists a few perks for doing so, but it really has nothing to do with whether you can use the browser or not. I have never bothered to do it, though I may someday – there seem to be some privacy related advantagesa nd, after all, I have a google account which is always signed in with Chrome – can’t be any worse than that. :D

No - JAWS OCR will not be able to read a .DBF because it is a database
file - You would need to use a DBF viewer but that may not be accessible.

FYI - a DBF holds more than textual information - Data is stored within the
file in an array with multiple records and fields.

Hi Hank,
I am currently using 2019, but I was using it with 18 with no problems.
And no, you don't need to create an account, I've never heard of that.
It's very similar to setting up IE or Chrome, in fact, you can use it just fine without even setting it up, only installing it.
Then you might want to set a home page, which is in preferences.
Good luck.

Hello Glen,

Thanks for your email reply. What version are you using of Jaws with firefox?I have heard that when you are first setting up firefox that you need to first create a account in firefox and that each time after that when you go on the internet with your setup firefox that you need to sign into your firefox account to be able to do anything you want to do on the internet using your setup firefox browser. Can you maybe please tell me if this is the case that you first need to create a acount in firefox and then need to sign into this firefox account each time you open firefox to be able to successfully do anything on the internet? Any help that maybe you can give me on this would be very much appreciated. Much thanks in advance for any help with this.

List Rules

When:
Sunday, 1 March 2020
12:00am to 1:00am
(GMT-05:00) America/New York

Description:
The following is the current version of the JFW Mailing List policies. These are sent out monthly, and also available from:

http://groups.io/g/jfw/wiki/List-Policies

**List Policies**

1: Keep it clean. We're a family list, and there are people here who probably don't want to hear everything *exactly* that's running through your head. If you wouldn't see it on TV, it doesn't belong in a post to the list. If you're not sure, email the administration before you post it to the list. Otherwise, you stand to see your posts moderated.

2: Stay on topic. We're a JFW-oriented list. That said, anything related to JFW, its functionality with programs etc is acceptable. If it doesn't have to do with JFW, it doesn't belong on the list. This includes, but isn't limited to, talk of other screen readers such as Window Eyes.

3: Listen to, and respect, the wishes of the admins/moderators. If you're asked by an admin or moderator to drop a subject, or take something to private emails (in the instance of two people carrying on a thread list-wide), please do so. If the subject is changed on a thread by an admin or moderator, it will be explained why in the email sent out with it. Please don't continue replying to the old subject.

4: Don't ask over the list for a position on the list administration. If you'd like to help out, it's of course welcome, but address the request to do so to the admin team, otherwise it'll be ignored. Requests are always welcome, whether help is being looked for or not. When help is needed, a post will be made to the list. The requests already received will be kept in mind.

5: Keep flaming to a minimum. This is not limited to flaming of each other, but goes beyond that, to flaming of products, opinions, ideas, suggestions, etc. Constructive criticism never hurts. Flame wars, especially public ones, both drive people from this list and are unwelcome here. either take the problem to private emails, or report the problem to list administration.

6. Respect the opinions and views of others. This is *very* important in any environment, most especially an online environment where the only gage one has on a person is what that person puts to writing. If you come off as hostile in your posting, whether you intended to or not, people will take it as such. Online, "face value" means just that. People make mistakes, people don't always have access to the same information you do. For that matter, people don't always have the same experience you do. If you know how someone can solve their problem, great. Suggest it to them and/or the list. Do *not* proceed to tell someone, on or off list, that they have no business posting. Repeat offenders of this particular rule will be banned for a week to 30 days, depending on the severity. Serious problems will be banned permanently.

As always, if there are problems or questions with regards these policies, don't hesitate to send them off-list to jfw+owner@groups.io

James,
List Admin

moderated Changing the order of accounts in win10 mail?

Hi,

I had to reset my computer today.

After the reset, I noticed that the mobile versions of the office apps, except Outlook were installed.

Outlook wasn’t there, so I figured I’d give the win10 mail app another shot.

I’ve used it before, but its been at least a year, since I tried it last.

Its working well, but I can’t figure out how to change the order of accounts, or if that’s even possible?

Thanks,

Jessica

Adobe is a good thing to keep.
Once you get one of the offices installed,, hopefully that file type will no
longer be associated with Adobe, but if it is, you may have to go into "open
with..." and select the calc program with the office program you have
installed.
Maybe the office program you install will do this during the install.

Are you working on a citrix environment? In that case you must install jaws both on server and client and use jaws tandem.

Yes I am working with sap on a server / client environment.

Regarding allow scripting on server, probably you will have to contact the sap accessibility team. The settings on server end are not as easy to do. There are some forums on sap webpage about that.

Dear Adriani, Thanks for your reply.
Yes, on my machine, I checked (enable) the allow scripting box.
And yes, its a server/client sap model. I think you're right, server computer is not enable the scripting at their end, and this is the problem.
Because, As I mentioned earlier, before logging in to the server, Jaws behaves very well. But after login, suddenly each and everything goes out of the way.
I will discuss with my administrator on that one.
are you using/used or/ know anyone who using/used this server/client model or/ any other variant of SAP?
Thanks once again....
